Hi, I am 58 and have autoimmune issues/diseases. That being said, I am following Brooke Goldner (one of mine is lupus) and Thomas Tadlock. I am trying to follow their program Smoothie Shred. I just started yesterday. I'm hoping to beat these diseases, by following their protecol. He helped her to beat it and I'm hoping that they can help me.

When I have a flareup, one of my symptoms is loose stools. That is the only thing that may cause me pause about this, is the loose stools. So I do want to learn and heal myself, not make myself worse. Thank you for reading,

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I make sure that I do not add fruit to my smoothies. This helps keep my blood sugar levels low. Fructose is a type of sugar, just as glucose is. We have to watch out for the amount of fruit that we put into the smoothie!

I don't use straws at home. I need to do better when I go out to eat. I don't eat out that often, and usually just use their straws.

I have a few plastic straws, at home that I wash and use over and over.

Hoping they will bring back the paper straws that they used to have back in the day, for using at establishments.,

I do tend to drink from the glass, however.

I carry my water, also.

I use the paper ones when I can. I seldom buy a drink in a store (I carry my water) but the last time I drank water in a restaurant, I did use a straw.
Time to drink straight from the glass!

I'm looking forward to expanding my smoothie recipes. I have a juicer, blender and Nutribullet. I used to 'juice' but haven't done it lately. It seems that there is so much waste. Throwing out all that pulp? There goes my fiber for the day. It's also a lot to clean up. The Nutribullet is so easy to get out, clean up and put away.

a stick blender in a jug,
will often do the trick
many protein powders are just based on milk, but are much more expensive
if you buy milk powder then make your own yoghurt or kefir
you can then include these into your smoothies
even just milk powder
cheers richard

emoticon It is so nice to find you!

I am interested in green smoothies big time. However, the odds are against me at the present moment...

I don't have a juicer. My blender is broke. My roommate has a generic Nutribullet (same as a Nutribullet but cost less). All I can think of is to beg her to use the contraption.

Then, my cellular phone needs minutes this week, so my money is going to be used toward the cellular phone...so no can do for produce this week.

When I do have the money, my local grocery store usually has a clearance crate. One never knows what is going to be in it, but there is not hardly anything wrong with the clearance produce. When I do have the money, the grocery store sometimes has big bags of green bell peppers or celery or bananas or etc. Bags are usually marked 50 to 99 cents.

Do you find protein powder to be a necessity for smoothies? The stuff is awfully expensive.

I have a JoAnna M. Lund smoothies cookbook borrowed from the library. I am anxious to read the cookbook. She lost over 100 pounds by tweeking all of her own recipes.

I weigh 160 pounds. My ideal weight is 110. Know where I am coming from?

I'd appreciate a section in your forum for creating smoothies on a budget. Fresh produce can be so expensive. (not on clearance) I would be dreaming if I could buy strawberries, raspberries, etc. What I can afford is a good ol' jar of peanut butter, (but doesn't the peanut butter stick to the contraption?)

I am excited and want to learn. Maybe I can hang out with you until I am able to go grocery shopping for produce. Then, maybe I can contribute to the team?

Simple peanut butter recipes wanted!

Hi, my name is Belinda. I am 59 year old widow, mother of 3, grandmother of 2. I live in the Bay Area, California. I love animals and became a vegetarian for that reason about 15 years ago.
7 years ago I had lost 120 pounds drinking my smoothies and walking every day. Then life happened. I regained 85 of those pounds. But I understand I have actually beat the odds, that most folks regain all of their lost weight within 5 years.
Anyway, here we go again!!

hello~ I'm fairly new to green smoothies. I haven't found a recipe I like yet, so I still tend to veggie juice. (my pulp never goes to waste though).

I'm hoping to find some recipes that will get me hooked onto this, because I know it's healthier.

Happy New Year! I’m new. I’m happy to get a new Nutribullet Rx and ready to tackle my new smoothie lifestyle and exercise and weight loss journey. I like green smoothies but actually all smoothies. I look forward to working with the team to achieve goals and lose weight! I have about 60 lbs I want to lose. It seems like a long way off, but it can be done, I’m going to dedicate the year towards giving up sugars and fast food, chocolate and junk food. I’m praying for God to help keep me on track and stay accountable. We can do this!

Morning all! I'm Sara and I used to be an avid green smoothie drinker but got out of the habit a couple years ago. I'm currently aiming for 800 grams or more of vegetables and fruit a day and I'm struggling with the fruit. So, dusting off my blender this morning and back to making a daily green smoothie :)

Hi, My name is Richard , I am a newbie to making green smoothies. I am from Australia
My daughter has been making these for years.
I only have a stick blender at home and this has given me some difficulties over the years with fibrous trheads from veges and herbs wrapping around the blades
Generally speaking I start the day with a 500ml mug containing a tablespoon each of psyll;ium, gelatine, glutamine a sachet of diet shake, a tablespoon of instant coffee, 2 Nespresso pods topped up with hot water then milk. Since I have been taking gelatin regularly there has been a marked improvement in my psoriasis.
Mid-morning is usually a bowl of fruit salad together with yoghurt and trail mix.
Several times a week I will have an afternoon smoothie with kefir and a third of a tablespoon each of garlic, ginger and tumeric powders.

Whilst most of the things I have dont necessarily conform to green smoothies, this was the only team I could find on Sparkpeople with an emphasis on blended liquid foods.
I keep fermentations of kombucha and kefir at home.

Just recently, my son bought me out some homemade sauerkraut. This proved to be delicious when added to blended pea and ham soup.

I believe blending to be a form of predigestion, where the broken down foods particles are easier to digest and potentially have more nutrients available than solid food.

Also the mixing of different components can also improve their palatibilty

I am also a fan of pureed ingredients such as with Dhall and Hommus dip.

So, whilst I dont necessarily conform to this Teams name, I still hope to gain by seeing what concoctions other people enjoy

Cheers for now Richard

Hi everyone,
I have started my smoothies again. They are so easy to make and taste so great. I was at my goal weight last march but then many changes happened and I gained some weight. For me the green smoothies are a great way to eat and loose the weight. Have a great Monday.

Hi Everyone! I'm not technically a new Team member since this was one of my Favorite Teams when I first joined Sparks. I'm glad to see that it is getting Active again.

I had to replace my old nutribullet and decided on their Rx model. That little machine has jump started my weight loss again. Oh the things it can do.

I live in Los Angeles and was an avid runner but last year I started hiking and fell in love with it. I'm trying to do our local 7 summits this year and each peak gets progressively higher. So the less fat and more muscle I carry the easier it will be.

Happy Drinking!

Hey I'm Patricia and I'm from Louisiana. I started the green smoothie challenge last week and so far its been working good. I've used this method of weight loss before and it was a success. However like most things if you lose focus you fail. I feel no need to remake the wheel and I will do what I did before. Glad to be here and pleased to meet you all. emoticon

New member here! My name is April and I live in Florida. I am going to start my first green smoothie challenge in January from a site called Simple Green Smoothies. I saw this team and thought it would also help with new ideas. I've never had a green smoothie and will be trying my hand at my first one tomorrow morning. Wish me luck! LOL

Hi,
My name is Donna. I live in southern Louisiana. I'm new to the smoothies. However, several SP friends have recommended them. I was happy to find your team on here. Your recipes sound great. Can't wait to try them!

Hi,
I am Michelle from southern Oregon. I use a nutria bullet every morning and now going up to two smoothies a day. I love the energy boosts I get when I drink them. I am hoping to get some recipes and help each other on our journeys.
