Hello! My name is Chaz. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes on February 13, 2018. I got back on Sparkpeople the day after my diagnosis and have been methodically moving forward to make positive changes in my life and to get my diabetes under control.

Because I like to cook, the hardest & most time-consuming activity is the tracking of my daily food intake. I've been researching & testing recipes that are diabetic friendly. Some have the nutritional values, but a lot do not, so I have to figure out ways to get these items put into my nutrition tracker.

I've done well with letting go of sweets and carbonated beverages. I have increased my water intake to a gallon daily, and I am trying alternatives for things, like cauliflower for pizza crust instead of pizza dough. I have been surprised and delighted that many of these new alternatives are actually very satisfying and tasty. I invested in a fitness tracker, and that has helped a LOT. I average walking daily between 9000-12000 steps. I am trying to add some resistance training to my fitness, and am taking baby steps until I build up more endurance. There is a lot to continue changing, but I'm on a good start as I have lost over 14 pounds since February, and have brought my glucose into the normal range.

I am looking forward to making new friends through this journey and to show support as needed.
