WILLOW855 focus on one thing to change. Changing too many things at one time can be defeating. Start with a realistic goal and watch your success come to fruition. Been where you are now. Remember, this journey requires a lifestyle change. emoticon emoticon

I know what you are saying. I'm also a diabetic. 100 lbs overwieght and my doctor wants me to have the barriatric surgery. He also wants me on shots which I cannot afford. I promise myself every night that tomorrow I will stick to my meal plan and start an exercise regime. I have yet to make it a whole day. But, I also refuse to just give up and close my eyes to the problem. This is the first time I've joined this forum and I hope it will help me by talking about my failures and successes, as well as my goals.

Good advice from Chef Tonito! Very good!

Lynn, I know it seems hard, and depressing, but even a little change for the better will have that depression lessening. I definitely agree on finding some kind of low impact exercise, considering your knees. I also have one bad knee, plus constant breathing problems that have made me afraid of getting too active. But yesterday I started, for the first time in ages, a low-impact exercise regime that I love - chair-dancing! I put on my favorite youtube videos, dance in my computer chair, and get up and dance every now and then as I can take it. I did that for 45 minutes yesterday and I felt much better afterwards.

Also, when things feel overwhelming, sometimes it's nice to just talk it out, or talk about other things, with a diet buddy. I have befriended several people here and we exchange private messages to keep each other's spirits up. I'd love to be a buddy with you too, if you would like. If you are interested, just send me a private message. Here's hoping 2017 is a good year for you.

OK. A lot of us have been there. Take a deep breath and first off: Relax. (Easy to say, tough to do, I know.)
Search spark people for chair yoga routines and simple stretch routines. These are a great place to start.
Second, talk to your doctor about exercise restrictions.
Suggestions: walk as able (I've been bone on bone for 15 years so I know it's tough), swim, water exercise, yoga, stationary bike if you can.
It won't be easy, but you can do this.
And fight the depression! Funny movie, anything! Don't let it take away your motivation.
Lastly, there is a good diabetic eating plan on the main web site.
And there are lots of us around!!! Asking for help is a great way to get us involved (which helps us!!!).

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Once they're out of the way the rest of us can get on with life.

Hi! My name is Lynn, I'm 65. I've been uncontrolled diabetic for several years on several medications and 2 types of insulin. I'm 100 pounds overweight, need both knees replaced and depressed. There is so much information out there and it gets confusing. I'm looking for a sound, simple plan I can follow to get healthy before this kills me.
