Our stories intersect on so many levels. Wheelchair, walker, cane, sedentary lifestyle, you name it. Discouraged, yes. Excuses, yes. Gave up, yes. But, joined the VA's MOVE program and found significant success. Found "SP" and found like minded and supportive and encouraging people. The real deal is this. Just like me, you have to look beyond your limitations and embrace the things you can do. I have found a "NEW ME." Just had a second mild heart attack in July and waiting to start Cardiac Rehab. Since receiving a "Good" report from my Dr's mid August and an O.K. to start walking, I have been consistent with a mindset that says I will not be imprisoned by my medical condition.,, Walking about 10 K steps daily. It's easy when you break the walk into two or three sessions each day. I am here to help, if need be. emoticon

Hi - I've been a member of SparkPeople for a number of years but it has intimidated me and I simply ignored it for years. I was 276 and went down to 249 - that was last summer - slowly I've gone back up to 286 and I seem to have stuck. I just turned 70 and want to get down 99 pounds by next spring. I have a serious problem exercising because I have a bad knee and my legs swell up to twice their size.
I have one child, a daughter who is 46 and she is married with one child, a daughter, who is 7. I have problems walking and so now use a cane. I worked until I turned 65 and retired when my department was outsourced to AZ. I live in NY up on the Hudson River and absolutely love living in a small village where Main St. literally ends at a park on the edge of the River - we're surrounded by mountains yet I'm only 1-1/4 hrs away from NYC on the train. I love to read and recently moved to a senior townhouse development here in my village. I need support and friends and examples from people my age who have had to fight the hard fight to lose weight and aren't as "flexible" and active as most of these younger one.
Well that's my story, to me its become depressing and so makes me want to vegetate in my recliner and watch the world go by outside my window.
