Hi. I'm Marge and I have started this challenge several years ago and never finished it. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 10 years ago and have kept it under control with diet only. I am determined to finish the challenge this time and learn from it as well as get healthier along the way.

Hi all I have been on this before last year but stopped and now I am back due to I can not go on with the weight I am at and I need to get my Diabetes under control, my last A1C was 8.9 in Jan this year, which I do not understand since tonight my sugar was 90 ?? emoticon I do try to watch what I eat and I feel that my diet is pretty good since I eat a lot of fish, chicken and pork, I try to stay away from to much beef. I work at night and have a hard time with exercising and I feel that I need help in that area more then anything. I am 53 and have a lot of aches and pains so what i have tried to do in the past was water aerobics, but now that I work at night it is hard for me to get up in time to go work out emoticon well if anyone has a suggestion on what i can do for exercise please let me know.

Hello!
I have had type 2 diabetes for a year and a half. I lost 35 pounds but found much of it in the last six months. I am slowly losing again, but want more help from Spark People to assist me in this journey.

Hello. I have had type 2 diabetes for over 20 years. I have slowly graduated through most of the available diabetic oral medications to now injecting Lantus twice a day, and Humalog before each meal. Along with blood glucose testing, that's 8 times every day I stick myself . It almost always hurts! If you haven't gotten to the point of injecting insulin, please do yourself a huge favor, and do something now to reverse your diabetes.

I am convinced that SUGAR is the enemy, and following a low carb diet and exercising regularly and often is the only path to a cure. I don't I know why they stopped referring to this disease as "Sugar diabetes", as they did when I was young. It is still the main enemy!

I am now tracking my meals, planning my meals (low carb), and walking 5 miles every day. My dependence on insulin is decreasing and I intend to someday be insulin free with normal bg readings. Hope to hear from anyone to share successes, ideas, motivation, and encouragement.

Hello,
I have type 2 diabetes, diagnosed in September. I am starting this challenge...again. This time my goal is to stick with it, by paying more attention to my health, focus on proper diet and exercise regularly. Good luck to each of you during the next eight weeks!

I have not been diagnosed with diabetes. However, my father had it, and it contributed to his heart disease, an amputation of his left leg and his ultimate death. I don't want to go there. I've had 2 knee surgeries in the past 2 years and feel this team's approach to weight loss will be sensible for me for a lot of reasons. Good luck to us all!

I too have become somewhat lax in how I have been controlling my pre-diabetes and now my fasting blood sugars are higher than they used to be so in other words this is not going away simply because I put it on the back burner. My goal is to do what this challenge recommends and stick with it until the end.

No if, ands or buts... Pam emoticon emoticon

I first started this challenge in 2014, but dropped out. I am starting in again, with week 1. I WILL complete it this time. My last A1C, several months ago, was 9.6, up from a regular of 7.0 range. As soon as I get paid, I am returning to my dr. and getting my meds again (have been without severa months, as well). I am making 2016 my year to get healthy.

Hello team!

You can call me JJ. I am in my mid 20's and pre-diabetic with 100+ lbs to lose to be in a healthy weight range. I have PCOS and my depression which have made my battle with weight loss extra difficult. I typically find it hard to stick with any program for more than a week or two so I am trying really hard to keep up with this 8 week challenge.

Hey everyone, you all can call me Duchess! I'm a middle-aged woman who has been married for over 10 years and has been blessed to be the mother to two children; a son who is 10 and a daughter who is 2.
I'm right now 85 lbs. over my healthy weight average and I'm so tired of giving myself excuses to be like this. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with both of my children and unfortunately, diabetes is prevalent on my father's side of the family.
As of right now, I've not tested positive for diabetes, but the doctor says that I'm at a huge risk if I don't get my weight and lifestyle under control.
I can't wait to meet you all and watch you soar through this challenge and come out victors in the end!

Hi everyone! I have type 1 diabetes, and have been struggling with controlling my sugars for a few months now. I am working hard at losing weight and hopefully helping to get my sugars under better control. I am also waiting for a biopsy to check for celiac disease, which could mean some big changes for me.
Happy to have found this group and looking forward to the challenge!

Hi - just finished nerve conduction testing - I have peripheral neuropathy - Diabetes has been mentioned to me several times during this past month due to the terrible burning in feet and legs - thought it was the plantar faciitis - but it seems to be both - I was told to get on regime for diabetes as "most" people with this condition either have it or will get it - hence - here I am -

I am Bobbi - grandma of 10 - writer - curriculum developer - piano instructor - and totally creative in all I do - I went in to doc for aching feet - ended up with x-rays of neck and back due to previous injuries - sent off to neurologist and now dealing with what I can do to slow the process- off to another doc Dec 4 -

Hello, my name is Michelle. I forgot to do this when I joined challenge, so here goes. I was diagnosed pre-diabetic about 5 year ago. There are Type 1 & Type 2 diabetics on both sides of my family. I am about 30 lbs overweight. I have decided it's past time for me to get serious & do all I can to prevent medication & complications. I have also started checking my fasting blood sugars because I have been feeling different lately. I have told my doctor, but for most part being brushed off. I am not sure what the recommended FBS is anymore as they continue to changed that number as they learn more. This week mine have ranged from 102-146. I don't know if that means I am still pre-diabetic or if I have crossed the line. My Dr. feels even though it's been a year, I don't need another A1c. So, I am here so I don't feel I am going totally on my own.

Hi,
I'm a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic, with hypothroidism and a liver condition. I'm in this to lose weight to improve my overall health. My current hgba1c is 6.0. Although I feel good about my hgba1c, I need to desperately lose weight.

Hi everyone -

I am pre-diabetic and want to make sure that it doesn't progress to Type 2. I've gained a lot of weight over the last 9 years and am approximately 100 pounds overweight. My goals are:

1) to be consistent with the challenge. Do the exercises and log my food
2) Moderate alcohol consumption
3) Reduce inflammation
4) Lose 10-16 pounds over the two months

Glad to be here and looking forward to sharing our successes in this forum

I was diagnosed with Type 2 3 years ago. I also have hypothyroidism and have been fighting the weight loss battle for more years than I want to admit. I am currently on Metformin and not happy about that. I tried to bring my A1C down without medication but with dietary changes but that didn't pan out. I am not giving up on that prospect though. I see a dietician/nutritionist and after several months have show a little weight loss. Not as much as I was hoping for but I am thinking positive, finding ways to reduce stress and looking forward to challenging myself a little more as far as consistent exercise.

Hi I am Gini. I have just been awarded the thrill of becoming Pre-diabetic! I know NOTHING at all about nearly everything I need to know. I am going to be seeing a reg. dietitian shortly. I know all about carbs and bloodsugar and insulin in the body. What good carbs are but have no idea how many carbs to have with each meal and snack to keep me in my caloric range. It is so much to learn and I am quite lost. Looking for guidance.

I'm new to the team, week 1. Other than losing weight, I'm wanting to get control of my crazy diabetes. I was diagnosed 3 years ago, with blood sugars over 600 and an A1c of 12.8. I ended up on 3 shots of Novolog a day and 2 shots of Levemir. I got onto my SP program 7 weeks ago, and so far I've lost 32 pounds and had to cut all of my shots by 1/2+. My A1c is 6.5 right now.

I'd really love to get it so controlled that I could go off insulin. I'm tired of being so horribly sick with diabetic issues...neuropathy, vision issues, kidney issues.

So I'm here to learn and to change my life. Hopefully we can become great friends in the process!

It's a new day!! Charlene

I joined Spark years ago and have lost 78 lbs all told (over years). I am now at my lowest weight in a looong time but have 70 more to go. My diabetes is really out of control at this point. A1c is almost 12 and so I am now on insulin. Novolog for meals, lantus was denied by insurance.
My fasting was HI. this morning. On top of this I have bilateral greater trochantor bursitis. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Just was diagnosed with diabetes today. There is a lot I need to know. I also need to know how to manage this.
Step by step process sounds good to me.

Just started this so I can get control of my diabetes. Love carbs and that is my downfall. Want to be consistent with some form of exercise to lower morning readings. Looking forward to success.

Hi again, I finish my first eight weeks.....several weeks ago. I didn't lose any weight... That really wasn't my goal. My goal as to be consistent. That was a big issue with me. I found logging in daily really helped....now I'm back to work the eight weeks with more detail. New goal is to practice what I have learned.

Hello,

I'm Maryann. I did this challenge before and it helped me. I am a borderline prediabetic having had two A1Cs at 5.7. But no matter how uncertain my PA is, I know I am prediabetic. I have all but one of the major risk factors and I have the daily signs.

I'm not on diabetes meds, but am on meds for high bp, gout, asthma and (when I remember) take a variety of vitamins. I forget because the bp med isn't compatible with some so I have to spread them out.

I'm now 50 with 3 kids, 2 Dachshunds, 1 hubby, and now with a job in a school kitchen. I also seem to have trouble losing a single pound no matter how many thousands of steps my Fitbit says I take.

Good to be here. Good to meet you all!

Hi...I'm Nancy. Latest labs show A1C at 6.5. So time to do SOMETHING. August 1st I started a low carb diet, but only lost 2 lbs for the month. I must need a jump start! Hoping this challenge will do the trick. I have joined my other teams goals of exercising at least 10 minutes a day and usually get in at least 30 mins. Really hoping to gain some insight here.

Got the dreaded pre-diabetic news when knee injury caused me inactivity for months. Packed on the pounds during that time. Goal is to shed those unwanted pounds and get my A1C numbers back to normal range.
