I hear you....San Francisco was a heck of a place to walk around....I actually found it very good for strengthening the whole body.....I used the 5K training program down by the Marina on the run from the Yatch Club to the Golden gate bridge which was flat and mostly on sandy roadways versus asphalt. I could not run the whole 5K either hence 45 mins for 5K....I make it to running for 4 minutes but needed to walk and catch my breath to keep going....there is something around the rhythm of running I was unable to kinda get to even though I enjoyed it a great deal....at 56, finding the bathroom along the route was also important :-) ..just be careful as your circumstances are clearly far more complicated than mine with the A-fib....Hugs....

Just re-start by walking....it will come back. San Francisco is pretty impressive with all those hills! I'll be honest, on the training, first week is walk for 4 min, jog for 1 min. I can only jog up to 20 secs...but I won't give up, or push myself so hard, I'll quit :) Don't think I'll ever be able to run the whole 5K, but part I will.

Impressive.....and here am I still sitting on the fence with no particular issues except the 'Blues'....if you can do it then so can I :-) I shall begin this weekend AGAIN....the program is very good ...I did in San Francisco when I lived there and ended up being able to run the 5K in 45 minutes which was really good for me....Now 3 years later, I need to get motivated to get going again.....thank you for sharing your story as it got me moving too :-)

Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new to SparkPeople and especially the 5K training. I have completed many 5K's but only by walking...I want to work up to running, or walk/run. Two years ago I had a pacemaker put in. My heart muscle is healthy, just not beating in sinc (A-Fib). Cardiologist has given me the OK...if I feel up to it, and I do want to try. So, I'll be following your training tips and hope for the best. I have signed up for the Holiday 5K in Dec., and hoping to improve my time. emoticon
