Hi Debbie & welcome.
Starting out by walking is great. Be careful with running and jogging because I will put tremendous strain on your joints, which is a bad thing, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. There are so many other activities you can do, besides running, which will be much gentler on your body while still yielding results.

Wishing you much success on your journey.

Hello everybody, my name is Debbie. I am new to SparkPeople and kind of "stumbled" on this program. I have a lot of weight to lose and am in a walking program right now, but am trying to incorporate a short "jog" every now and then. I am participating in a 5k this month and will probably walk the whole thing, but am participating in another one in October and have a goal of walking/jogging it. This program seemed perfect to help me meet my goal. Who knows? - maybe I'll be able to call myself a runner one day. :)
