Hi all! My name is Nina and I teach in Lackawanna New York at a wonderful Charter School. I teach first grade and have 26 little ones in my class. My class as well as my school is made up of many cultures. We are an urban school with all the problems of every other school, or at least many of them. We do not have a big parental support, we lack funding and our kids range from extremely low to high. I am on my feet all day as they keep me running! The new core Standards aren't helping either...a lot of work as you all know. I am 5'2 and weigh right now 134lbs. My goal is to weigh 110 by the end of the school year...all I can do is try my best with a little or a lot of support.

Hello everyone! My name is Jessica. I'm currently a preschool teacher working on my Masters in Elementary Ed. I love teaching, even on the most difficult of days. I have been married since 2009. Currently no children, just one little fuzz ball pup named Blade. My goal is to be down about 50 lbs. I think my dog helps a lot with that because he's a very active dog. He can't sit still for very long before he starts begging and whining to go out.

Hi everyone. I'm a new Special Ed teacher still working to get my footing out in the "real" world. Right now I work with young adults in a transition program. I love it! I do a lot of walking and moving out in the community, so I foolishly thought I would magically shed pounds. Instead I ended up over eating, thinking it didn't matter. The doctor gave me a wake up call when I started having some digestive issues. So now, I'm learning to be serious about myself and give myself proper fuel to get through the active day. I have the goal to be healthy. I want this to be a lifestyle change. So now I just got to make it happen!

Hi Everyone,

Francine here. I teach English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL or ESL) in Maryland. This is my 7th year in the field. I've worked with elementary kids, high schoolers, and adults. I would love to teach middle school ESOL as well -- any advice, tips, warnings from middle school teachers would be greatly appreciated! Oh yeah, and today I signed up for a Zumba instructor certification class in April, so hopefully I'll add Zumba to my teaching credentials!

Hi- My name is Maureen. I have been a math teacher for a long time. I am currently in a really interesting position working with the G and T kids in Math and Science in our area. ( And still teaching one section of Geometry)
I've done Spark people on and off for over 2 years. in 2010 I lost 30 lbs here. But slowly - being away...being busy and stressed....It has come back on. So, 2 weeks ago I started again!
I remember when I was successful a few years ago, it was largely due to the buddies I met here -their encouragement and checking in on me- sending messages etc. I hope to find a few new buddies to help me along the way this time. Now I feel better able to encourage others as well.
I was very happy to find this group!!

Hi.. I'm Barb, and I teach high school social studies courses in SE Arizona... about 70 miles southeast of Tucson. It's my 19th year of teaching; and it's still fun. Currently I'm teaching AP US History, AP Human Geography, regular US History, and Philosophy. Busy days!

I've been back being serious about healthier living since second semester started in January (note how teachers keep track of time). I've lost 21 pounds so far; though there are about 90 to go, I'm concentrating on success right now. I feel infinitely better and my knees are no longer killing me. My students are very supportive and appreciative of the effort, as is my husband. So life is good!

Hi, I'm Susan and I'm back to SP. I've been doing the Body by Vi shakes and have lost 25 pounds but am at a plateau and need to get back to eating real foods and learning how to balance my calories. I always enjoyed this team and our common thread of teaching. I have taught 32 years and covered 1st through 6th except for 5th grade. Currently I am teaching 1st grade.

Try starting your day with just 10 min. of exercise and 10 min. after you get home. Sometimes I even walk laps inside the building before I go home. You'll find you have more energy once you get into a routine. Tell yourself you have to go 10 min. and then you can stop. Usually, I keep going longer.

Hello! I am Amy and I am in my fifteenth year in education. I have been a middle school technology, health, and science teacher, dean of students, Assistant Principal (recovering), and returned to the classroom three years ago. I teach high school science-from remedial, general ed, to accelerated courses.

I am excited to join your team. My goal is to lose 50 lbs by my birthday in August and for the start of another school year. Then, I'd like to lose another 50 by next May, when school is out. Then, I'll be much healthier and able to enjoy all the outdoor activities I love (hunting, fishing, biking, hiking mostly). Right now, I am too out of shape and large to enjoy those things.

Does anyone have any ideas-I am on a four day week (which SOUNDS nice). Our day starts at 7:15 and is supposed to end at 4:15, but I usually stay late tutoring kids, etc. I am EXHAUSTED by the end of the day. I have made a commitment to healthy cooking, and I am sticking to it. On the weekends, no problem exercising. During the week-problem! I am not a morning person (like most of my students). I can't seem to get up by 6 to fit in a 30 minute workout. I am dragging by the time I get home (I teach three different preps and every hour I have a different class (Biology-accelerated Earth-Regular Earth-Biology-Regular Earth-Biology). The switching back and forth is exhausting! Luckily, I have TAs and ParaPros to help...

Any one have any ideas?

Be the change you want to see in the world!

Hi, I'm Jill. I teach 6th & 7th grade language arts in Michigan. I've been a SP member for ages and have gotten away from it for quite awhile. It feels good to be back. I have the app on my phone now which makes life much easier for tracking. I lost a lot of weight last year with a medical weight loss program and so now after the holidays about 15-16 lbs has creeped back on. I want to get back to my "summer" look. Glad to be back!

Hi, my name is Teresa. I taught Jr.High History and Language Arts at a Catholic school for 16 years, then moved on to a charter school that works with at-risk teens...been there for 8 years now. Quite a differnece, as you might imagine! I joined SparkPeople almost 2 months ago. I'm doing well at making time for exercising, but still struggling to get my food under control. Its a process to make such important lifestyle changes, but I'm determined this time to be successful!

Hi there! My name is Kristin.... I am a returning member of SP & Teachers Learning to Lose - just using a new name (used to go by Graciegal7402)... I decided to take a break for awhile - and now here I am getting ready to kick it into high gear! I teach Academically Gifted students grades K-5. Recently moved to a new school so still trying to get used to a new routine. It has been harder than I expected... I guess that i s what 8 years at the same school does to you!

Looking forward to getting back on track and back to SP!

That's the best time for me. It's off my mind and is a great start to the day. It seems to be the only time of day when something else doesn't come up and get in the way. That being said, I haven't been in the habit lately. I need to start again.

Hello! I'm looking forward to this journey. I have been overweight for too long and I was to be in " the best shape of my life" by the time I turn 45. This date is less than two years away! I teach 8th grade SCIE ce in the Chicago suburbs and like many of you, there just never seems to be enough time in the day to do all the things I would like to do. emoticon

So with this long list of responsibilities, my goal for weight loss has been put on the back burner. I am hoping to get my healthier lifestyle back as a major focus in my life. emoticon I look forward to meeting you all.

Hello fellow teachers, It's time for me to get back into the swing of things. I am in great need of a regular routine. So I am here to encourage and cheer you all to success.

A little about me, I am a computer teacher for an early elementary school (PK-1st), and I absolutely love it. I am looking forward to getting to know fellow educators that know the demands of teaching and the difficulty of balancing one's physical, mental, and spiritual health and working through it together.

If I can't be there for myself, my students will suffer. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy Healthy New Year.
