emoticon everyone for the sparkgoodies and warm welcome to the team! I love to walk, run and set fitness goals to keep me motivated. I want to shed a couple of pounds, maintain and tone-up. I'm new to the 'community' part of Spark and ask myself why it took me so long!

Hi - Great posts here so I thought I'd join you for mutual motivation!
Pushing my 50 yr old body sustained injuries serious enough to put me out of commission for about a year but they've finally healed to the point that I'm slowly able to get back into exercise! I managed to maintain my weight loss but wasn't able to shed more pounds without exercise, but I'm looking forward to getting my body and those scales moving again!!

Hi! My name is Cee. I've been a Spark member -- this go 'round -- for a year. I'm downed by an injury and I NEED motivation to wait it out so I can physically resume my fitness activities. I've been through similar plateaus before, but it seems more crucial this time .. I graduate from college and turn fifty next year. SO not the end of the world, but I am not good at the Patience Game.

Nice to meet every body. emoticon

Hi. I'm Karen, age 49, living in NE PA with dh and 4 kids. I reached my goal weight of 125 at the end of August. I was so excited. But guess what? I've already gained back 5 pounds! This morning the scale read 130. How discouraging! So, I'm trying to re-commit to the healthy habits that I had started back in April when I weighed 140. I went running today for the first time in a few weeks. And I'm counting calories meticulously today.

Hi, All! My name is Linda, I live in a small town south of Boston, Mass. and I just turned 50 this year. My "kids" are two wonderful 6 year-old Golden Retrievers who keep me active every day. I also have an extremely supportive husband who I call my "personal chef" - he gets home from work before I do and took over the dinner prep several years ago - and that's fine with me!

I joined SP in January - I'm a Type II diabetic trying to get healthier and hopefully cut back on my meds. I'm finding SP to be a tremendous resource on so many levels. Though my weight is still way down from my all-time high of 296 in 1995, I'm finding it actually more difficult to maintain the loss than it was to lose it. Despite hitting my goal weight of 150 in June 2005, I apparently haven't quite completely conquered those food demons! This past year I found I'd regained more than 70 pounds, so it was time to get serious again. Since then my brother has joined SP and is also having great success.

Glad to be a part of the team!

Happy Halloween, All!

Kate invited me to join this group and I finally got the chance to come and check it out.

I started SparkPeople in May and shed fifteen pounds. I was only in the exercise portion of things so when I got injured in June and sick in July the emotional eating put it back plus 5. I started back to exercise on October 11th when my knee and back healed and brought my food journal into play on the 25th, so today marks the end of my first three weeks. I'm three days into my monthly cycle so I don't know my weight progress so far but my clothes are loose so I know I'm going in the right direction.

Every week or two I add in new aspects to my fitness regimine. I have weightloss goals but currently I'm focused on my fitness numbers; daily steps, workout minutes, flexibility scores, sets, reps, and inches.

One of the things that helped me to jump back in with both feet is how much my fitness suffered while my back healed and the congestion cleared up. Walks I had made all the time had become a chore in a way that frankly frightened me. It was more than the congestion but the effort itself seemed more upon me. Walking one of the paths this morning I noticed no discomfort at all and was overjoyed! Now it's on to even greater distances and feats of fitness :)

Hello,

Kate, thank you for the invite. I really appreciate it.

I have been on SparkePeople since June, with no results. My bad.... I just did not make the committment to lose weight.

this monday, I started again. I am doing well and comitted to losing weight. I have started to say no to my DBF when he want to go out for dinner. I tell him that I make better food choices if we stay in.

Well, a bit about me. I am single, living in the Chicago area. - No kids... I work about 50 - 60 hours a week. I love what I do.

More later...

off to work...

Kate, thanks again...

Hello,

I'm Alexa. I was very surprised when I was invited to this group yesterday. I didn't feel very motivational at all. In fact, I felt AntiMotivational (See blog from yesterday and today for more info). But today I'm doing better and I'm keep moving forward. My sister lent me a dress for a wedding that's a tad small but I'm going to see if I can squeeze into it and make it work. So I'm going to hit the gym with the motivation of DRESS in mind. I only need either a better bra/corset or a half of inch gone...

Sorry that was babbling. :-D

Thanks everyone!

Hey Everyone!

I am 26 and this morning was invited by Kate to be a member of your motivator team! I'm really excited about this since exercising is one of my biggest problems and I could really use the motivation to get my daily exercising in. I've had a few successes, but could really use a boost!

I am TTC, so when the bun gets into the oven, I will need to change my motivation from weight loss to a healthy weight gain, then back to weight loss again after 10 months, but the whole time it's going to be about being healthier and more fit (which I could use a little motivation on).

Aloha!

I am hoping to continue to be active on SP and being a part of the Motivators!!! Spark Team will give me a shove in the right direction.

Thank you for the invite to join this team. I am probably the oldest one on this team as I will officially be a "senior" tomorrow--or so I have been told. I have been on SP for almost 3 months and really like it here. Am looking forward to chatting with sparkies on this team and becoming involved. Thanks, again.

This looks like a great team :)

Hi, I'm Sonia, and I've been on Spark for several years. I've lost about 50 pounds so far (haven't changed my tracker yet to show my recent gain from a stressful summer... I'll update it when I weigh-in on Friday.)

I'm a former Kindergarten/Pre-school teacher who's taking a few years off to stay home with my 2 year-old son. I'm also doing some nanny/babysitting work, so my Spark Page is currently set to private due to my online advertising. Please feel free to add me as a friend, though. Fellow Sparkers are always friends :) I'm just a little wary of people who look might want to know too much about my private life before nanny interviews. (I've had A LOT of interviews with very strange people... But I've found one family who's wonderful, and I'm babysitting for them 2 days a week.)

I'm hoping to finally lose the last 35 pounds -- slowly but surely -- about a pound a week from now on.

And I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on this team! emoticon

I know that I need motivation and support to keep going so I am signing up and hopefully you can all help me get past the 10 lbs. mark and onward to my ultimate goal which is 155 lbs. Thanks in advance for all your help. I will in return try to help all of you.

A big hello to everyone, I've known spark people for many years but wasn't active and so this time I started back a couple of months ago I've been very active and involved and it is the best site ever to learn about yourself and others and change unhealthy ways!

Best of luck to you all,

Gee, from what I've read of the previous posts, I'm the only one today who hasn't tried hard for a long time yet...
I hope this team will help me to help myself; I was very thin most of my life, and totally let it go and overindulged/underexercised for the last 10-ish years. So, it's time for me to get off my butt! I think they call that a GOYB at another team. The irl wloss group i attend is helping a LOT, but I love the mid-week lift I get from the tools here.

thanks for welcoming me!

Hi there! My name is Joanne and I'm from Des Moines, IA. I lost 70 lbs. and have kept it off 4 1/2 years. That is until I stepped on that scale recently for the first time in a very long time. I gained back ten just by getting lazy with the eating and tracking. I guess I've been counting on my consistent exercise to carry me. I tracked my calories for the first time in awhile and man have I been in denial! So I decided to join a new team to help boost my motivation and keep me accountable! Judging from the activity on your page you guys look like a great group! I'm buckling down and tracking every bite that goes into my mouth.
I'll keep you posted...

Joanne

I do my blog for the benefit of two of my teams and their aggregate goals: Pilates Lovers and the SparkPeople Community Team (in addition to its being for my own benefit). I can put in a sentence about welcoming new members to 'Spark People' Motivators, but the blog has to be about my progress, such as it iseven without weight figures. Though, I was thinking, overall, perhaps I could weigh myself once a month. Non-weight-maintaining members of two diet clubs I had been a member of, after I had written off Weight Watchers for good (for THEIR good too; I had been such an unhappy camper at WW) posited that you weigh yourself once a month.

Good Morning, I hope this is a group where I can find support about changing my feelings about my body and weight.
I am 44, married, 5 kids, home maker(trained as a teacher). I was never overweight until my first marriage began to fall apart. Then I went from about 150lbs(which I weighed from age 21 to age 32) to 213 within a year. Definitely using food to fight stress plus went on paxil and bc pills. 5 years later I remarried. When my husband was diagnosed as diabetic, I began to make slow changes in our diet to improve his health. I was pregnant with our first child at the time(had 3 from the first marriage) and he felt so guilty about having conceived a child and passed on his damaged diabetic genes. I was mostly trying to prove that the genes didn't have to end up as illness, blindness and misery(his mom's experience with diabetes).
When I became pregnant with our second child I decided with my doctor's permission to not gain any weight during the pregnancy and joined babyfit, the spark sister site. It worked, and I continued to use spark sites to lose a total of 50 pounds. I have kept it off for 2 years this month. Sounds like a success story right? WRONG! I discovered that even though I was wearing a size 8 and within 8 pounds of a BMI under 25, and had my doctor telling my health was fabulous and that any BMI under 27 was healthy for me, and that I should wait to try to lose any more weight until I weaned my youngest(yes I am one of those long nursing psychos), I feel completely, hideously fat and inadequate. When I don't discipline myself not to, I spend over an hour a day, sometime several hours, recording food and obsessing about how being thinner would make me a good person. I am constantly tempted to eat less and less so I can be the good person I should. Finally my husband began to get concerned about how obsessed I was and lectured me on how unhealthy it is to be in this frame of mind. I can sort of see this but it is so hard to believe that everyone around me isn't looking at me and thinking what a failure I am for not being within the CDC acceptable weight guidelines. Lord knows I look at others and think about what bad people other fat people are. I remember seeing a gas station cashier who was maybe 300 pounds and was laughing at a co-workers joke. All I could think was what has she got to be happy about, she is fat. In a moment, I realized how disordered this thought was. My greatest fear is that eventually I will reach a BMI less than 25 and will still feel this way. I run a weight around 162 and 154 puts me at a 24.9 BMI, so I believe this could happen eventually, although right now I am concentrating on maintaining and being healthy. I can see it is about what is going on in my mind, not on the scale. Am I the only one who struggles like this? Is this a group for people who are trying to change their minds as much or more than their bodies?

Hi All,

Hope you are all had a positive day! Here in Northern California we have had a a little cooler weather , so I am taking advantage by exercising & moving furniture around. I did my blood tests today & am hoping to hear that my cholesterol has gone down & that my bones are not losing too much calcium. Getting older is catching up with my body, so I've gotta fight back.
Please remember no one is as hard on you as you are on yourself, so please be nice to you. You are worth it!!!!!! emoticon

Howdy, my name is Karen, longtime Spark, new member...used the link in Cicede's blog.

I know this issue, my daughter is 24 and always struggled with body image...I see the pressure on young women, and hopefully this will give me some ammunition to encourage her to be more accepting of herself.

Hi, I'm Jean from Carrizozo, NM. I just joined this team yesterday and think this is a great team. I have moved quite a bit in my life. I was born and raised in Camden, NJ; married and off to Punta Gorda, FL; 3 kids and a move to Sedona, AZ for a short spell and then about 25 yrs in Southern CA; a year in Yuma, AZ and now here. I am married to a wonderful man for 2 1/2 months now. We are fixing up our home so some days I don't get on the computer very much if at all. I am trying to check in and huddle everyday, though. I have been thin in my life and now I'm not. I don't want to be thin, I want to be healthy. Where that leads me, I don't know the exact weight it will be. But, if I can run and keep up with the grandkids ~ OK ~ trail behind them, I will be happy!

Hi Everyone. My name is Heather. I have been on SP for about a month now. I am working hard to be comfortable in my own skin. I also want to lose weight to be healthy for my two girls. I want to be able to be an active part of their lives, not just watch from the sidelines! My long term goal is to lose 100 pounds. I have set my weight ticker for 50 pounds for right now. I am shooting to lose the first 50 by the first of the year, then I will reset and work on the second 50. My new mini goal is to lose 10 pounds before hubby and I go to Vegas middle of next month. If I do, I am going to treat myself to new hairstyle at the salon in the resort we are staying at.- It will be time for a little pampering. I am a little discouraged that I have only lost about 6 pounds so far, but I know I must be losing inches (I should have measured myself when I started - I need to get a tape measure and do that sometime) Anyway, something must be going right that is not indicated on the scale because I am now able to wear clothes that I wouldn't have even dreamt of trying to squeeze into a month ago. I am also finding the pants I wear to work are too loose now. I will just keep pulling them up for now, I want to wait a little longer to but new work clothes!

Hi everyone my name is Ann and I have been a member since 8/09. I have two grown boys, married for 21 years and just turned 50 in June. I needed to lose weight for medical reasons, and this is the only place in a maze of diets I have been on my whole life that actually worked and still works, but most of all will always work. I need to lose about 50 more pounds to be at my target weight. Once I reach this goal I will make a new one for the last I need to lose. But it is something I have thinking about a lot lately, something I never thought I would ever think about but what do I do when I reach my goal. You work so hard to get to your target weight, but then what. That is why I joined this group to find incite to this and other questions that are brought up and discussed.

Hello everyone - my name is Darlene and I joined Spark People in February of this year.
I am hoping to get and give support to fellow Sparkies about Body Image.
My body image is terrible. I am starting to believe that what I see and what others see are 2 completely separate entities.
My BF is sick of hearing me beat myself up and I quite frankly am tired of it as well. We are both equally as tired of the comparisons I make of myself to women on TV, in magazines or
running/walking/riding down the street.

Thanks for having this group.

Good morning.. my name is Darlene and I joined this group about 10 minutes ago.
I have an awful body image. I constantly compare myself to other women be they walking by me on the street, popping up on the television and movies or as I thumb through magazines.
Thanks for having me! :)

Introduce yourself and get to know everyone!

The team is meant to be thought provoking

Theres no need to have a negative self image, we are better than that! (Than what someone who doesnt know or care about us, judgement is of us) ie. media/TV

We are very enthusiastic here about 'liking ourselves whatever we weigh', if you cant be happy now, that wont change when you lose the weight- make sense?

The 'eating disorder' topic does crop up as it is ever on the increase and it isnt easy whichever side of the fence you sit, we can get very defensive when we are being pushed to thing differently, but we are here to support one another and get thru things together!

just do your best, be you, muck in because 'the more you put in the more you get out' as the saying goes!

We are all here for progress in feeling happier with ourselves!

Hi, I cam across this team in CICIDE's blog today. I can totally get behind this team's message. I hate magazine covers, they always make me feel inadequate!

Hi, my name is Cathy. My negative self image doesn't really have to do with my body. I have good Spark Healthy habits in place: drink 8+ glasses of water per day, 9+ fruits and veggies per day, exercise regularly (cardio and strength), sleep well, record on Spark everyday, etc. I am still working on portion control, and emotional eating. I am making gains, but not quite where I want to be. I am realistic and optimistic about my progress. I am continuing my journey and I'll see how my body is supposed to look as I go on.

Hi. I'm new to this group. Sounds like just what I need. I've lost 40 pounds and while that is great, all I can see in the mirror are wrinkles, flab, saggy parts, and varicose veins. I have trouble with the concept of wearing a swimsuirt, even though I believe swimming is a great exercise. My sister-in-law says no one is looking. I think she's wrong, but the state that I want to reach is to not care.

Hey everyone. I'm Veronica and I'm new to this team. I have a negative self-image but I am slowly working on it. I hope to meet a lot of cool people on this team.

I thought I would introduce myself, I am Tina.

I took over as leader of the below-captioned team ... I took it in a new direction ... the powers that be over here at Spark are letting me .. and then I found out about this team, which seems to be HAES oriented.

What are your opinions about celebrities wanting to be a size zero and larger women never feeling content with there size?
Its not good enough, we all need to change this!
