Hello and welcome! I am an addiction to carbs rather than sugar, but I know exactly what you mean. I am also looking to lose 50lb, but it can be done, and everyone is really friendly! emoticon

Hi and Welcome.
I am beginning to think I'm addicted to sugar too, I've been sabotaging my weight loss efforts for the last two weeks with sugar, mainly chocolate but I'm looking for sweet stuff all the time at the moment.
Lets work through this together.

Hi, my name is Pixii, and I am a sugar addict :o)

I was bought up in a house where we had left over chocolate cake for breakfast! My mother was an over-weight woman who was an exceptional cook and loved to bake ... and I believe that I have inherited that gene.

As I try to change it up and learn better ways to eat (and live), I pay particular attention to my sweet tooth - instead of trying to fight myself, I try to keep my cupboards full of alternatives.

I buy strawberries, mandarins and red grapes for picking at. And I like a nice (super thick and creamy) low fat vanilla yoghurt for dipping them into.

And then occasionally I'll allow myself to buy (and eat) one of those tiny treat size choccies - but only if I've done all my exercises and been really good! (and if I have to buy a bag of them just to get one, I give the rest to the kids to take to school and share with their friends!).

Remember... this is a lifestyle change, its not about depriving yourself, its about learning to make better choices that you can live with for the long run.

There is a sugar addiction group here on spark people you may want to join, too. A lot of sugar addicts treat junk food the way an alcoholic does alcohol--so, not even one bite of the stuff, because it only ever leads to more. I've been hoping not to have to go that drastic route, but the "everything in moderation" route doesn't seem to be working! I know how you feel, though. Hang in there--sometimes it really is just one day at a time, and at least you're exercising so doing something good for your body.

I am 52 years old and 50 lbs overweight. I have put on 25 lbs in past year and now I need to get serious about taking it off. I work out 3 to 5 times per week at Curves and do a Walking DVD 3 to 4 times per week. I know what foods and amounts I should be eating but I am addicted to sugar. Once I start eating sugar I cannot stop. I will keep eating even after I start feeling sick. I welcome any tips for beating my sugar addiction.
