Welcome Ginger,

I have been a yo-yoer for most of my life. I have no idea how many lbs. I have lost through the years, but one thing I do know now is that eating the Mediterranean Way has improved my health reports much. I must continue to so by making this way of eating a lifestyle change.

You reached the right place for help and guidance. Wish all the best in your new endeavor.

Margaret

Welcome! It sounds like you are on the right track!

I'm glad to read that you are using olive oil. It is VERY good for you. I use it everyday in practically everything!

There are so many books out there that can help you follow this plan. Here is a short list of books on the subject, but following the Pyramid makes this lifestyle the easiest along with tracking nutrition using Spark People.

"The Mediterranean Diet" by Marissa Cloutier
"The Essential Mediterranean Cookbook" by Wendy Stephen

No matter how healthy we eat it all comes down to PORTIONS & EXERCISE. Both have been my nemesis. There must be a balance to make this work. You will notice... Exercise is the foundation of our Pyramid.

hey
as we say here in east tenn. my doctor diagnosed me with metabolic syndrome a year and half ago. i was 193 pounds and my sugar was 129. my user name is my way to remind me of what i never what to do or be anymore. i have lost 234 pounds in my life 20 to 30 pounds at a time. I lost it keep it off a few months and then start gaining again. never keep it off for longer then 2 and half yrs i have had high and low sugar since i was 29 yrs old since both my parents where diabetic my chances are really good that i will be too.
anyway my doctor told me the facts of life he said lose weight and start taking care of your self or in five yrs you will have a stroke or heart attack. i know i was over weight but i never thought it made that big of a difference in my health and the main problem i had and still do is being exhausted all the time. something else that goes hand in hand with my medical issues.
i read an article on this type of meal plans or way to eating helps with my medical condition.. last night i looked it over and it is how i have been eating when i am trying to lose weight. to me this has always been the way to eat not like others place say too.
main difference is i don't drink alcohol of any kind i am a latter day saint it is against our faith to drink alcohol, coffee and tea" and i use canola oil all the time sometimes olive oil..too
anyway i am down to around 170 and been exercising for almost three weeks now.. so things are looking better for me already/...
oh i am also the mother of a very very active little girl going on 2.. being the big 50 next yr i get worn out allot and i want to be around for her and he kids...just me ging
