Thanks both of you for your encouraging words. I researched all night last night till it was time to go to bed. Now I have info overload! I have to make a switch before I can go grocery shopping again, I don't want to delay another min. Thankfully I have oatmeal, a few canned peaches in their own juice, canned tomatoes, frozen veggies without sauce, yogurt, rice, pasta, chicken, and ground turkey in my pantry! I am going to the library today to pick up some cookbooks that focus on the Mediterranean area, southern Spain, southern France, and Italy. By next weeks shopping trip I should have enough recipes to revamp my pantry. Thankfully my husband and family are all supporting me and are willing to embark on this new way of eating with me. They aren't expecting me to fix 2 meals ( one for me and one for them! ). We are all looking at it as an adventure, we get to visit these countries without ever leaving home!

Welcome to the team! Many of our members have come to this team because of health issues. Quite a few of us have had some real successes by eating the mediterranean way.

I grew up in a small town in the midwest on a meat and potatoes, white bread, canned vegetables and butter diet. Although I still enjoy red meat on occasion I really don't miss that diet. I can't imagine eating a more tasty diet than the mediterranean way. It's not very hard to do at all, just heavy on the vegetables and fruit, whole grains and olive oil as your primary fat choice. If you need a little inspiration on what this diet can do for your numbers check out some of my past blogs. You can go to my spark page and scan my past blogs or better yet click on the two links below to save yourself some time! Eating this way really does work!

There are a number of great links about the Mediterranean way of eating found throughout this teams posting. You can find many on the links section, but you can also check out the different threads and find many links posted.

Again welcome to the team.

Welcome! I am in the same boat with my cholesterol...my HDL is good though. LDL and Trig. were bad. I am slowly converting the Med Way to get healthier. My doctor did put me on meds and told me to get back to exercising. She would check how I was doing later on (now a yr down the road) to see where I was at and if she is satisfied, she would take me off the meds. I just got back my motivation to exercise and I started on Sunday!!

Hi all! I just joined. Today I was informed by my doc that my triglycerides are high and my HDL is low. She wants me on meds but I am going to work on lowering and raising them by diet and exercise. I have been a part of SP for a couple of years now, just getting really serious this past year. I was just watching my calorie intake and exercising. Now I need to get serious about what I put into my body...not just how much! My research revealed that the Mediterranean diet is a good way to get my numbers back to normal, now I just need to learn how to cook and eat that way!!!! Any help is very much appreciated, I am a country girl who only knows how to cook American country comfort foods. Think fried chicken, meatloaf, fried okra, mashed potatoes and gravy, ... you get the picture. I have no idea where to start with this new way of eating, I just know that I have to do it!
