Hi Everyone- I'm Paula. I'm in my 40's and was slender until mid 30's. Now I need to lose 80 pounds. I'm giving myself a year( or whatever it takes) but I'm shooting for 1 -2 pounds a week weightloss...but more importantly I am trying to find a way to change my eating habits to incorporate foods I love, avoid fast food and to be aware of my portions. Not a diet- but a lifestyle change. I am also trying to change my way of looking at exercise from YUCK to Yayyy! So far the walking is making me feel pretty dang good and I am paying lots of attention to how beautiful it is around me, how good and energized I feel while walking, and the consistent lower numbers on the scale...and trying to ignore how sore I can get after walking a long way and the fact that the numbers on the scale sometimes don't meet my expectations as far as HOW low they actually end up being. That's why I joined this group- to help me keep realistic about what I can really do. OH I also PROMISE to NEVER watch "Biggest loser" (Cuz I can't lose 20 pounds a week no matter WHAT I do)

Hi!
My name is Becky.
I'm not sure that I'm a slowest loser, but I am very hard on myself and lazy. Not a good combination. I am hoping that joining this team will help me keep on task but not beat myself up if I don't make my weight loss goals in the time frame I've set. Does that count?

Hello!

My name is Mary Anne. I cannot believe that I have been with Sparkpeople since 2002. A lot has happened since I've joined.

The past several years have been very stressful for me, I had cancer in 2008 and am in remission, I have had a lot of issues in caring for my elderly parents and a disabled adult daughter who lives at home with us, and last year my 3 year old granddaughter was diagnosed with leukemia, and since I do her daycare, it is very stressful.

I have been so busy taking care of everyone that I have really neglected my health. I have to get back to healthy eating and daily exercise because my loved ones need me.

Hi! I signed up because I enjoy the blogs and because this second leg of my weight loss is going to be a lot slower than the first--I lost 100 pounds from May 2010 to November 2010. But part of that loss had to do with an illness, etc. Then I took November and December off from counting and weighing. Now I'm getting back on track and glad of it. But I've only lost 2 pounds since January, and those were re-lose because I gained two during my "vacation". Looking forward to reading through the team posts! Good luck everyone.

I've been slowing down and wandering on a plateau this last month. I've enjoyed the blogs so much, and thought maybe what I really need is a good laugh at myself. So here I am.

HI everyone. My name is Becky and I've been on here since Jan 2010. I've lost 35 pounds or so and have slowed down from what I was losing. Love the blogs each week so I checked out the team. Needed something different to keep me busy on here so this is it. I still have 20 pounds I would like to lose.
By the way I am from Michigan and not a cold weather person and so I do all my exercising in the house in the winter. Can't wait for spring to get here so I can go out to play in the garden and walk around my neighborhood and the next one over the highway too. A total of about 5 miles. Lots of fun when it is warm.
I am a stay at home mom with 6 kids and 3 grandkids. I only have 3 kids at home now but they are still keeping me busy. Luckily they love to go walking or biking with me and are adopting a healthy lifestyle along with me.

Hi all, My name is Peggy.. I'm a Turtle when it comes to weight loss but I keep pushing forward.
I live in Texas. Thought I was in Alaska this week with all the snow and ice :)
i joined Spark in Nov 2010 but really didn't log on or participate until Dec 2010. I started my weight loss journey in August and I am doing ok... I am learning to control my portions, stay within my daily caloric range and try and avoid junk food and sweets..plus exercising. I am treating working out like a job I try and do it at the same time every day it's scheduled. I approach it like a job and once I get there and get going it is no longer a job but it is a goal and a mission in my quest for a healthy life and I enjoy it..

Hi everyone, I saw this team beaing highlighted in the daily spark and i was intrigued so i stopped by to check it out and eventually joined. This seems like a great place to find encouragement and motivation to keep going even when everyone else is meeting their goals way faster than i am. I'm a 30 year old school teacher, married with two beautiful kids my daughter is four years old and my son is 6months old. I'm trying to lose excess weight that i gained over the past few years due to over eating and child bearing as well as get fit so i can be around to watch my kids grow up. I know i can do it even if it takes longer than i expect, because i believe that slow and steady does win the race!

Hi--My name is Fran. I have been some version of heavy most of my 67 years. The only "normal" looking photos of me were some when I was very young and in Jr. H.S.--we had 5 stories in our school--I always remember lunch in the basement and Social Studies immediately after on the 5th floor. I stopped dieting in 1988. I had lost 40 pounds on a popular diet plan. It took 6 months--it took 1 month to gain it back and I felt as if I was going to die--physically--the monkey was on my chest. And he weighed a LOT! It was frightening to stop dieting.. Each year of my adult life I had gained 5-10 pounds. How do you not diet? Do you just give up? Won't I weigh a million pounds soon? I attended a Geneen Roth workshop and started using the eating guidelines.of her program. That was 1988. Then in 1998 I attended another of her workshops and met a woman who was to become not just one of my dearest friends but my "Diet Buddy". Together we worked on weight issues. Over the 20 years I lost 65 pounds. I think that qualifies me to be a member of the slowest loser team. I am committed to slow weight loss using principles of good nutrition and lifestyle changes. Did I mention that my husband had a heart attack and together we have found ways to constantly learn about nutrition and improve our food choices? It's almost like a hobby at this point. I really think that "slow is the way to go". It stays off better this way. I have 50 to go. Some would say more but I will be satisfied with fifty. Too old to worry about what others think--don't care anymore. I applaud those of you who are younger and working on this issue. I am proud of those of us who are older and still fighting the good fight. Together we will help one another and will prevail.

Salutations all!
I have found the team I have been looking for all my life! LMAO . . . .I wish i really could do this because I'd be ewber skinny by now !

I have been a yo-yo dieter since puberty; always looking for the quick fix, starving myself/my body in order to fit into what society deems as "normal". If I had only started by making slow, steady changes throughout my entire life , I'd be in a much better place . . . maybe, but hindsight is 20/20 right?!

I've been and on again off again, inconsistent exerciser as well . I learned to swim in college and used hat activity to spur my desire to loose weight. I was and avid swimmer for quite some time, then life happened . . . work, bills, lifestyle changes, TIME, COST, that prevented me from keeping up; gyms with pools and the YMCA can be quite costly. I tried alternative exercises like walking and dvd's, but none have been as successful as swimming was when I was younger.

But now I'm back on track and trying to accomplish a big goal for MYSELF in order to be MORE HEALTHY AND BETTER FIT . . . because that's what it is all about , right . . . . using common sense and moderation. Taking one step, one day and one Zumba session at a time !

Slow and steady is the BEST strategy when it comes to making lifestyle changes for the long haul.

Now why couldn't I have figured that out along time ago!

Hi everyone! My name is Elaine & I'm from Wisconsin. I joined this team because I tend to take an "all or nothing" approach to weight loss- if I can't do everything perfectly, then I'll do nothing. I'm trying a new approach - I have certain daily goals I want to meet & track them with stickers on my SparkPeople calendar. (It's all about the stickers!) I'm allowing myself more calories per day than a person would think you "should" if you're trying to lose weight because dramatically slashing calories scares me. I haven't completely decided on a weekly weight loss goal- since I'm just starting this month, I think I'll just not gain, then be happy with at least a half pound per week. Anyway, it sounds like this group will fit in with the new mindset I hopefully can maintain.

Hello! My name is Linda. (smell) I have a lot of pounds to lose and although right now I am "one of those people" who are dropping 4+ pounds a week, its mainly because of my size. I have 300 pounds to lose. I wanted to join the team because I AM going slow. Just changing my eating habits and slowly getting into a workout program is causing the drop. According to my weight, I need an excess of over 7000 calories just to "maintain" my current weight. So, when I change that to less than 1500 a day, just that alone will cause the drop.

Anyway, please don't kick me out lol ... because I AM going at this slow so I can maintain and never, ever be where I was a month ago.

I choose to sparkle!

Hi everyone!

I'm Billie from Calgary, Alberta.

I joined this team because I find it hard reading about other people who are losing 5+ pounds per week. I am happy for them, but also insanely jealous. I'd be lucky to lose that in a month! It makes me feel like a 0.1 pound per week weight loss is not worth mentioning. So I'm very happy to be here where small losses are not just mentioned, but celebrated!

Yay for turtles!

Hello!

Im Stacey and am glad to be here. My goal is to loose a lb a week for the next year. I started in November and have so far lost 11lbs at about a lb a week :) I figured if I do this slowly it would turn into a life change not just a quick loose and gain it back later because my habits didnt change. So far so good!

Shawneda here in the MetroAtlanta area. I saw the thread on the blog post as a featured post. I'm trying to lose the weight at a healthy pace so I can keep it off and live without feeling like I'm on punishment for being overweight. I'm exercising more and eating as healthy as possibly on a very strict budget. Hope to offer and find encouragement. Thanks for being the straight sticks on weightloss in a crooked and fast world!

I am finally enjoying my spark journey on and off line, which helps keep the flame from going out. Enjoy your spark.

Hello, everyone! emoticon

I'm Jessica, and I live in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. I recently turned 23 years old, and my weight loss journey has been ongoing for the past four years or so. I gained a little bit of weight when I first went to college and have been working to get to a weight and level of health I haven't seen since I was in elementary school, if even.

I am a slow loser because I know that is the healthiest and longest lasting way to lose weight. It's more important to make the lifestyle changes that will increase and sustain overall health than it is to lose all the weight as soon as possible. There are certainly overweight people in much better shape than many thin people.

This team can help me remember that the scale is not the only measure of success. There will be (and have been) weeks where I eat perfectly on plan and exercise perfectly on plan and just don't lose any weight...or even gain a bit. As long as I know I'm making good choices and getting healthier, the best thing for me to do is keep at it, and the weight will come off when it's ready to.

Hi from the Phoenix, AZ area. I've been trying to lose weight for 13 years and not doing very well. I'm going to be 50 in May and would like to lose at least 10 pounds or more by then. I was hoping 40 but I'm only losing one pound a month. At least I'm keeping it off. I went to my doctor and he said I was healthy. He said to keep doing what I was doing because it's better to lose slowly and keep it off. He said that a lot of times when women are going through perimenopause, it is harder to lose weight. I'm so happy I found this site because it makes me not feel like a failure because it's coming off so slowly. It helps me not to give up. Thank you so much. I know I'm not losing 1 or 2 pounds a week, I wish I were, but at least I'm losing something.

Hi MrsGFae,
Welcome to our team!! Please don't be discouraged with losing 1-2 lbs a week...that is absolutely AWESOME!!! If you lose more than that ....you may end up gaining some back. The slower weight loss means you are doing things right...it means that you are eating healthy and exercising your way to a healthier body. This program is NOT a diet...it's all about life changing and lifetime goal settings.
I have been with this program for 3 yrs now and I have only lost 34 lbs total...but hey..it's 34 lbs no longer on my body. I have also lost 27 1/2 inches total!!! (measuring body is recommended) scales don't always tell you the truth about weight loss...muscle gain, water retention can all effect the scale. I am unable to lose as quickly as my peers on this team and find it comforting to know I am not the only one that has that problem. I have hypothyroid and struggle to lose everyday..but every OUNCE matters.
You can do this...but remember to do it for the right reason's....it's about wanting to be healthy and feeling "alive" again. Every pound we gained did not happen overnight and the same calls for losing the weight. Good Luck to you....you CAN DO IT!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone!! I have recently started my weight loss journey AGAIN but this time is different. I am taking it a lot more seriously. I'm not allowing myself a "cheat day" where I can eat the whole house down, I'm not starving myself or depriving myself or eating only one food until I feel like I'm going to explode...NO FADS!! This time I am not going to lose only to gain back what I've lost and then some, this time I am taking it off and KEEPING it off...this time IS different!! BUT, I have been a little discouraged...I've been losing 1-2 pound a week and facing the fact I need to lose a LOT I was starting to get discouraged. I couldn't understand why I wasn't dropping 4 5 6 pounds a week...in the past that has always been what happens. Then I read a blog posted by the Slowest Loser and I realized that in the past when I have rapidly dropped pounds I have gained it all back and then some, I realized last time I wasn't being healthy and last time I didn't succeed. I joined the Slowest Loser because I know there will be times when I get discouraged and I need a reminder that dropping a lot in a week is unrealistic. I will need some encouragement at some point and I want to be surrounded by people who are losing weight in a healthy way at a healthy pace. emoticon

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!!!

It doesn't matter how long it takes to lose the weight....what matters is how you feel about yourself as you go along on your new journey. It has taken me 10 yrs to figure out the do's and dont's to help me lose ( hypothyroid) and the fact that I have found what works for me and it takes much longer for me to lose than those who have faster metabolism is fine by me. I am happy for them and wish them much success!!! I know that all of us are doing our best to get it off...and every OUNCE counts!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU.....YOU CAN DO THIS!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Team,

My name is Lisa I am not new to SP but new to the Slowest Loser. I feel like I can relate to alot of people on this team. I have tried in the past many quick fix ways to get it off and it always returns because I need to change the way I think about what I consume more then the focus of the rate at which it is coming off. I have been focused now since 1/10/11 on eating more fresh fruits and veggies and not consuming all the processed food that I use to enjoy. I have about 40 to lose and I know I have a long journey ahead but I also know I plan on keeping it off no more quick fixes for me.

I've been in the process of losing weight for 14 years. Seems a little ridiculous, huh?! Decided that going slowly is easier than quickly. Quick causes me to quit when hitting plateaus, having a bad day, or going to slowly. When I had my 1st child 14 years ago, I was nursing her so I didn't want to lose weight too quickly for fear it would affect my milk supply. It took my 9 months to lose 30 pounds. I didn't quite make it back to my pre-baby weight and when I was done nursing I started trying really hard to get the weight off. Once again, because of my "quick" mindset, I failed and quit. I didn't learn anything by losing the 30 pounds slowly. So now, here I am getting back into the "slow" mindset. I already feel more at peace with my progress even though I've been at a plateau for 2 weeks. I know that as long as I "stay the course," it will begin to come off again soon. So glad to be on this journey with other slow losers. Our culture today is "get it now and do it quick." It's refreshing to meet other people that have decided to go against the grain and lose at a pace that will not only be more successful in the long run but will also probably get me there faster than the "quick" way. And 14 years of trying to lose 18 pounds proves my point.

Hi! I must be a turtle because I keep trying and ever so slowly, the weight is coming off. I have those very hard 10 pounds to go. I do want to succeed for my health's sake-and I know with your support, I will!

I too want to embrace the turtle!! In the past I have lost weight at a faster pace and put it back on. I have been unable to lose the weight at that pace this time and keep giving up. Now I have found spark people and the turtle. I am inspired to do it again and this time create the healthy lifestyle I want for me and my family. Karen

Hi, I joined Spark at the end of Sept. I joined this team because I am embracing the Turtle Power. I didn't lose any weight during Oct. & Nov. I did finally lose 2# in Dec. but gained it back over Christmas. I was able to lose that 2 again and now finally another 1. I have been doing a lot of exercising and building muscle and losing inches. My eating habits have been evolving over the last few years and getting better, but now even better over the last few months because of tracking. I am also a turtle when running, my pace is slow, it is the only way that I can keep going. But, I didn't even think that I would be able to do even that much, so I have made great gains in this past year towards a healthier me and plan to keep gaining strength and health and will be super happy when the pounds finally come off.

Talk about a slow looser I haven't even been able to weigh in yet as my leg is in plaster and will be for at least another 6 weeks as I have arthritis because of my weight. I have only recently accepted it as a problem because I have been fat all my life but now being 42 I am beginning to feel the effects I have GERD and with the joint problems I either make a plan now or end up in a wheelchair, so I rather make a plan now

Hi. I'm Bradley. So glad to find this team because so many of my past weight loss efforts have collapsed under the weight of my impatience and frustration with slow or no progress. The scale is a fickle frenemy! I lost just two pounds in the last month, and that's OK because I'm more than just two pounds healthier and more fit, which is more important than some stupid number anyway. So, hope you all can help me out when I foolishly think I would rather delete my Spark account than post an overnight 3-lb gain (someone--other than my husband--remind me that I'm probably PMSing ). emoticon

But back to that introduction.... I'm 34, from upstate NY but live in Wisconsin. I'm a UU and a librarian. My Spark page is private, but just Sparkmail me if you want to be Sparkfriends. I'm not a frequent poster or commenter, but I check in from time to time.

Hi! My name is Sarah and I think this is a great way to keep motivated and stay that way. I know that everything seems wonderful when the pounds start coming off quick, but realistically I know that the large majority of the time I will just need to keep at it and be satisfied with healthy choices and striving to feel healthy and happy.

I've always been a pretty patient person but I know if I'm going to keep at this and stick with I'll need places like this.

Hi, all! My name is Kate! I have decided to join the Slowest Loser Team because I need more encouragement to just continue to persevere no matter what. I really want to get healthy so that I can have a lot more fun with my kids and with my husband! I keep wanting to give up because I get so discouraged about life being so difficult for the past couple of years. So... I figure I might as well start pursuing the encouragement I need!

It took me 15 years and 4 children to put all of this weight on and now I just want to get healthy and move forward.... slow and sure!!

Thanks for listening!

Hello to all my name is Juana! I recently read Stop Weight-Loss Insanity: Embrace A New Pace and it was so right!! I am finally losing weight the correct way and have learned that quick results disappear fast!! This article really shed light on my weight loss journey because I was starting to get frustrated because of how slow I was losing weight. But after reading "What Does The Slowest Loser's Team MEAN To You?" and reading what other members have written, it really has changed my perspective on losing weight...even if I do only lose .01 one week and 1 lb the next!

Hello everyone,
My name is Janet...I am 42 yrs old (43 in March), I have hypothyroid and find it hard to lose weight at the normal pace of others and it used to make me feel defeated. I have gotten past that but still like to be with others that understand my pains (so thrilled I found this site!!!).
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid in 1998 and was just devestated. I ballooned from 130 to 260 lbs in 10 yrs. I was at my wits end and just wanted to give up. I tried EVERYTHING!!! I ended praying and pleading to Heavenly Father to just help me....a week later I found sparkpeople. I have been a member of SP since May 2008 and my team members all pretty much succeeded in getting to their goals. I have lost 34 lbs and 27 1/2 inches and still have a looooooooooong way to go!!!! I want to be with those who understand my pains and tears...when I have to walk 10 mi a week to lose only 1-3 oz....not pounds...ounces!!!!

I love to do many activities....I am not a lazy person. I don't let this body slow me down at all. I go hiking, fishing, camping, walking, exercising, play volleyball, soccer, etc with family and friends....life is too short to sit on my butt and feel sorry for myself.

I used to be on a truckload of meds and today I am proud to say ...NO MORE...NADA!!!!! heart is healthy and strong, blood is clean and flowing freely, and depression and anxiety attacks are no more too!!!! Thanks to SP and its staff!!!

I have a husband of 21 yrs (and very handsome) I am happy he truly loves me because I have no clue why he would want to stick around with a blimp!!! ( and I actually learned to love myself too...wow!!!) I have 3 gorgeous daughters, two beautiful grandbabies and another one due in July. I am a very motivated individual and will be glad to help you along when I see you crying out for help. Looking forward to getting to know everyone in here!!! emoticon emoticon

I read the post on the DailySpark Blog and it really spoke to me, that is why I am here.

I have lost weight fast before and always put it back on even faster. I am really committed this time, but I have to keep reminding myself that my mascot is a turtle. I am a turtle.

I am really excited to join this team because I feel like it will help me keep my head in the right place. Thank you for having this place that I can come and adjust my perspective.

I'm glad I found this Team. "The Slowest Loser" sounds like the right place for me.

Every time I've tried to lose the pounds fast, they've returned even faster. Well no more of that for me! I've cut the string on the yo-yo. It took decades to slowly gain the weight I carry now. It seems logical that it will take years to slowly lose it again; that's okay with me. SparkPeople and "The Slowest Loser" are going to be my not-so-secret weapons. :-)

Hi Just joined your team as I am not losing much. Been around on other teams for a while so I think I would fit right in. I have lost 11.7 kg 26 lb in 6 1/2 months. So it is going to take me forever to get down to a decent weight.

Hi, I just joined this team because I felt like at my current rate of weight loss (about a half pound to a pound a week) I would fit right in. It's good to not feel alone in being a turtle.

Hi! I am new to the team. I think it is a GREAT idea! I lose real slow also. My lose is about a pound a week. Some weeks I manage to squeeze in 2 pds but most weeks it is only half a pound. But every little bit helps. emoticon

Hi Everyone.Just joined your team.About 8 years ago I tried Atkins and lost a lot weight quickly but it didn't stay off. There were also foods that you weren't allowed to eat.

I came back to SP on January 1st after being away for almost 2 years.I am down 9.5 pounds since then but I know 5 pounds of that was in the first week. This week I lost .50 of a pound.I know it is better to lose slow which will help in keeping it off.

I want to celebrate every little bit lost no matter if it is .50 pound or 1-2 pounds.I am 60 and realize that it might take me longer to lose to my goal but I am willing to take it slow and keep it off. emoticon

My name is Nancy and I'm from West Virginia.I live in the Eastern Time Zone.
