My name is Melissa. I'm 30 years old, married and a mother to a 7 year old. I joined sparkpeople last year, when I was 170lbs, and lost over 20lbs. I have been in a rut for several months and finally decided to get back into it! I started new with a brand new sparkpage. New year, new me! One of the reasons I fell off the wagon, I believe, were everyday stressors. I began to eat emotionally again. So, I was excited to join this group and get myself back on track! I look forward to hearing everyone else's accomplishments! Good luck to everyone!!!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jenny. I'm 27 and I live at home. I got laid off last year. After graduation, I moved back home with my parents. Needless to say, that's a stressor. I've learned a lot about managing stress and I use gardening and breathing techniques to calm down but I still have a long way to go. I worry about my family a lot and as the oldest, a lot of responsibility is put on me. I look forward to learning new tips on how to manage my stress :)

Hi! I was in an abusive marriage for over 20 years and under alot of stress where I suffered anxiety attacks daily and gain close to 100 pounds over the years. Now I'm married to a wonderful man but my company closed down six months ago and I find out that my new mother in law and brother in law are not is wonderful as my husband so recently my attacks have come back and I know I need to learn to handle my stress.

Hi all,
I work full time and take care of my husband who is disabled and my mom who has dementia. I just turned 50, and I find myself "treating" my stress with comfort foods, even though I know better. I'm looking forward to learning to respond to my stressors with healthier options. Glad to be on your team. Best of luck to us all.

Hey everyone, I'm Angela. Just joined Spark 2 days ago, or maybe yesterday, already seems like a good place to be for a while lol.

I'm excited. This seems different than other sites or "diets" I've joined. I think the most important thing I read today was that the Top 5% of people who keep weight off LONG TERM, have some secrets, and one of those secrets is that they allow themselves to fail.

To me this is amazing, I feel such guilt often for falling off the wagon so to speak, and I get extremely discouraged and give up. It's ok to fall, it's when you stay laying there forlorn, that you've lost the battle.

Looking forward to this!

Hi. I've been away from SP for awhile and thought this would be a great thing for me to do as I get settled into using SP again! Stress is a major problem for me, and I know it greatly effects my ability to be a good speech pathologist (my job), girlfriend, friend, etc...So I'm looking forward to improving myself!

Hi I'm Jamie. I joined this because at my last doc check-up, my blood pressure was to high. She asked if I was under stress, and I nearly cried when saying yes. My dad's side of the family is falling apart. My parents and brother might get kicked out of their home by my dad's siblings, who are trying to find new an interesting ways to make their life a living hell. My Aunt told my brother that he is dead to her. Everyone not in the family sees that my Uncle is brainwashing people like some crazed cult leader. I have no idea what to do about any of this, beyond worry. I opted not to send Christmas cards or gifts to my dad's side this year, first time since I was old enough to sign my own name that this has happened. I feel bad about it in some ways. I always thought family was the most important thing. I left college when my family started falling apart in '98. It has been 12 years, and things have only gotten worse! What the hell did I come home for? To watch these people tear each other apart? And more things that I don't understand- they all started going to church together. Do they sit there with cotton in their ears the whole time? Where in the Bible does it say, "Thou shall make every attempt to toss ones brother and his wife and son out of the home that he helped build and maintain all of these years. Thou shall act like a spoiled brat fighting over the three-legged goat even though thou has your own herd and no need of said broken goat." Seriously! How am I related to these people?

Then there's the stress of loosing my health after my lungs got chemically burned at work. The stress of gaining 100 pounds as a result of that. The stress of having less money because I can't get a medical release to go back to work. (Which is just fine. I'll sit here and write! But that takes quite a bit of time to produce an income. And even then, it isn't as steady as a weekly check.) And the stress of living in this apartment complex with new shady neighbors every month. It's one thing to walk into the hall and not be able to breathe from the cigarette smoke; but it's a whole other thing to get second-hand high on the way from my door to my car! And lets not even get me started on the mold growing behind the decorative molding everywhere. And mold that appears in my dishwasher- oh yeah, that's REAL comforting!

Sorry, I'm usually much more contained than this. But give me a pen or a keyboard, and things start pouring out. And asking me why I'm in a stress busting challenge... well, that really did it I suppose. So there you have it. That's me right now. That's the tip of the iceberg of stress I'm under. Things that I can't figure out how to deal with or make go away.

So really, I'm here for help. I'm here hoping to learn something that I don't know. I'm here looking for more light to fight back this darkness.

"A ship is safest docked in the harbor, but that is not what ships are made for." I may be safe sitting still and conserving my breath, but that is not what I am made for.

"Diet is a bad word. You can tell, because it has the word die right there in it." I'm not on a diet, I'm on a life-enhancement. :)

Hi everyone!
I've been a member of Sparkpeople for almost a year now and ran across this group and knew it was the perfect challenge for me. My husband and I both have a lot of stress right now from our jobs along with other family issues and finances.
I'm really looking forward to learning stress relieving techniques and making friends that are going through the same thing.

Hi...I'm Maureen. I'm hoping to learn some skills that will seriously help aleviate the amount of stress I sometimes put onto myself. I know that exercising helps immensely with stress, but I also need to learn some positive coping skills, for those moments when stress and anxiety rear their ugly heads. I have 2 sweet little girls who sometimes get caught in the crossfire of my stressful moments.
Hoping to become calm, compassionate and just plain full of JOY!

I wake up every day with the realization that this is it, that there's only one shot at this life and I can either enjoy the ride and live it to its fullest and to my highest potential or I can stay the way I am.

Hi I am Allen. A lot of my bad habits come from my lack of stress coping. Hopefully, I can get back on track with my goals and maybe set some new ones.

Hello.
I have been on SP for almost 2 years now. At one point I was close to my goal weight and then some stressful things started occurring in my life and I have put part of the weight back on. I am determined to learn how to deal with the stress and get myself back on track with SP and get the weight back off and keep it off this time.

Hello All! I have been a member of sparkpeople for almost a year. My biggest issue is emotional eating because of stress so I think this would be a good thing for me. Anything that would help me deal with stress with help me with my eating. It is really bad this time of year with the holidays and so much going on.

Hello everyone! I definitely get stressed easily and just recently quit smoking, so I need to find some healthy ways to deal with stress. I overcome some things in life that can cause stress, but there are still times I need to deal with stress in a positive way.

I'm Kate. I live in Montana. Recently I noticed that I was getting too stressed.. losing my job, applying for college ( how far in debt do I really want to go?) , looking for a new job, starting a company, fighting icy roads...and then my workouts started slipping. So I decided to take a closer look at my list ( I love lists )... and slow down, de-stress myself.. So here I am.

Hi, I'm Emily. I am pretty sure I have a high-stress personality, even the smallest "to-do" list will have me flustered at times. I'm also suffering from stress-indused inflammation/pain. A year ago my physical therapist told me that if I didn't get this under control I could damage my health severly. So, now its been a year and I've done okay, but I want to be better at dealing with the situations that still stress me out (they aren't going to go away, I must learn how to handle them).

Hi everyone! My name is Kari and I am stressed out! LOL I'm a full-time student working on my Master's degree. I am a Graduate Assistant (teaching preschoolers/infants) and work at an after-school program. Also have 11 hours of commuting a week. All this adds up to STRESS and now medical problems associated with stress. So now I'm hoping to learn to de-stress and live a more healthy, less stressful life.

Hello everyone,

I joined SP back in the summer of 2009 and lost 25 pounds. I gained all of it back and then some because of a very difficult living situation my junior year of college. Last summer, I decided to create a new SP account and I haven't looked back. In almost 6 months, I've lost close to 20 pounds and although I've had a few slip-ups, I am starting new today and I am ready to BEAT the stress out of my life!!

College has proven to be incredibly stressful and while I am preparing for final exams this semester, I want to take this challenge so I can learn how to better manage my stress at school and at home.

Hello! I joined this group because I am a HUGE STRESSER! I am switching jobs, my husband is unemployed (actively looking), I have two teenage step-children, five dogs, a turtle, hedgehog, and chameleon; I get horrible road rage, am in school full time for my masters, etc, etc. So stress is my life! I am hoping to find some ideas to relieve some of this stress, as I know it has an impact on my health as well as my relationship with my family!

Hi

I joined Sparkpeople a month ago, and I've been exercising and working on my nutrition since then.

I tend to be an emotional eater, and I've come to realise I need to improve the way I handle stress in our to be successful in losing weight.

Hi there - I'm Sandy, and I joined Sparkpeople last week. I'm hoping that this SparkTeam will help me to manage the stress of keeping my life entirely too full. :) Good luck to all of you!

Hello, I am new here. My name is Gina. Im 37, married, mother of five, living in PA. Almost at 5"10, I currently weigh 284 pounds which is my heaviest weight to date. I know that stress played a huge role in landing me here. I am an emotional eater. I started the challenge today, and am going to begin a Stress/life journey today.

Unless you faint, puke, or die, KEEP WALKING

I'm very happy that I found another challenge, helping me to find ways to deal with stress. When I spined the wheel early this morning, the middle of the wheel said join the stress challenge and I did. I'm still depressed , but it made my day. My started weight was 288, now I'm down to 260. Thanks to sparks, I'm actually losing weight. I hope I'll make new friends in this challenge. I need lots of support and I will be there for other sparks.

Hi! I'm already up to Week 2 of this challenge and the best part so far for me is keeping a journal and working out. My biggest stressors are work and family. I'm a teacher in NJ. Last year we were hit with major budget cuts and this year we're all really struggling with it. Plus, teaching is stressful to begin with! Keeping it together and being patient all day...sooner or later you crack! Lol. I'm a newlywed and married life is great! But my immediate family (parents, siblings) are dealing with financial and health problems which are stressing me out. Aah!

emoticon Hi there!

I'm new to the site and just bought the book, both within the last week! I found the site last Sunday and went out and got the book the next day! I actually sat and read the first few chapters while sitting at Barnes & Noble, before I knew it 2 hours had flown by and I hadn't put it down!

My name is Jennifer... Jen or Jeny is fine too! I am 34 and live in the beautiful Pacific NW (Washington State). I am mother to wonderful twin 13 year old girls who are super active and I'd like to keep up with them!

I am 5'10" & 350 lbs. I would like to lose 160 lbs. over the next year and a half or so!

I know that stress is a major contributor to my weight for a lot of reasons! I look forward to learning about managing my stress as I go through the next few weeks!

I look forward to all that I can learn here and all that I can share!

I think reducing stress would be a step to losing the weigh again for the fifty-eleventh time! I have always lost when I really tried. Now at 56 I can't seem to chisel it off. Help!

Oh, that you would bless me indeed...I Chron. 4:10

Hi everyone, I'm Tammy and live in Texas. My story is pretty much in line with everyone else. Stress from my job that has created a very unhealthy life for me. Maybe it is a good thing that I have been "let go" from my company, so you would think the stress would be relieved -- but now I have the stress of looking for a job. Have had some medical issues that have taken my focus away from work and all the other stuff that goes along with these excuses. Since there is time on my schedule right now, I am going to put my 100+% in to make necessary changes. I'm excited, but also tired - so let's get going.

Hi, I'm Chris and I have a crazy life. I life in New Jersey with a new husband and work in the Alaskan Bush. The job itself isn't stressful, but the travel out to Alaska and back is probably the most stressful part of it. I tend not to deal well with stressful issues and am seeking a better way to handle and respond to stress.

I'm trying very hard to take charge of my health and improve my physical well being.
