Hi, Everyone!
I just joined SparkPeople last week and today I joined this challenge. I've always had a problem with stressed in my work and relationships and have twice been to the "burnout" stage. I'm in a good place right now and I want to learn how to stay here!
I hope that we can all learn some healthy ways to manage our stress!

just joined the challenge today. Most of the stress in my life I bring on myself by procratinating too much. Right now, I have two things that are worrying me, both exacerbated by my putting things off. There is a little stress from work - a lay-off planned for June. No pressure there!

Earlier this week, I started to take steps towards tackling this procrastination thing by using the SparkPeople Other trackers to set a couple of concrete goals. I'm competitive in nature, so trying to create a streak will probably work for me.

Hi I am Jean Anne and I am from Walnut Grove MO. I have joined this team to help manage my stress. There is a lot going on right now most of my stress is financial related Some is also from time management. We have started a new business and there is always things that need to be done. My biggest challenge is making time for myself as well as time to exercise.

I have just found a buddy near me and we are getting together to walk a couple of times a week.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hello,
Tori here finally taking the challenge to deal with the everyday stressors in my life. I am a stay @ Home Mom and my kids are in elementary school. They do well in school, and I try to do much with them. Since they are older now, I supervise their homework and take them to activities and now we limit the activites per semester to reduce my stress and fatigue. I am open with them about how I do get stress and how it affects my behavior. The don't want me stressing out either. So now It's time to approach finishing the projects I started when they were baby's or things that have never gotten done, such as hanging curtains in the back room, since I couldn't decide which color to choose. Decorating our master bedroom, and the kids rooms, curtains to hang, closets to organize, you know what I mean.

This year I am committed to finishing these projects, and I realize all that has been incomplete has bothered. I really didn't know it. So now, I am stressed when I have to start something and get nervous about making the wrong choice and eat when I sense I am taking too long. So, I decided to take this challenge to help me deal with the stressors in a healthy way.

Making choices, trusting my instincts, and being open to making mistakes without the binges.

These are my goals to cultivate.

Happy trails everyone! Nice to meet you all!
Tori

I Pledge to forgive myself for the past & keep going no matter how many times I fall. I have the strength and self discipline. I will give my challenges to the Lord. I WILL HAVE A FRESH START EVERY DAY!!

Hi, my name is Patty and days like today are one of the reasons I joined this team. I have several different things going on right now that just add to the stress of everyday life. My job is one of my biggest causes of stress and has been for the last 2 yrs. There are reasons for this but I won't get into all that in my intro. emoticon Things were great this morning until I started checking some work that an employee did and found that it wasn't done right, even after we had a hugh discussion about it already. Then on top of everything else my mailman decided to not deliver my mail and started sending it back to the senders. I thought I had finally gotten it all straightened out and just got a phone call that my insurance company got mail back this morning. I guess it's time to file a formal complaint! It just seems to be overwhelming at times and I am looking for some different, better ways to deal with the stress

I'm Blossome, and I'm a 25 y/o teaching student and mother of twin boys. I joined this challenge because I've had quite a time dealing with everything in my life over the last year and a half, and it's really taken it's toll. My wife has severe fibromyalgia, and as such, isn't able to do very much in the way of physical activity, which leaves both the care of our twin boys and the keeping up of the house on my shoulders. On top of that, I had a rough pregnancy, and recently had major surgery to remove my gallbladder. With all those things, I hardly find time for myself, and now that I've started a weight loss plan, I feel that that time is something I truly need. So I'm here to find some new ways and a new plan on how to feel more relaxed!

Hi I'm Sandy. I'm 65 and soon to be a first time Grandma. I'm married have one daughter one step daughter and 2 step sons. The youngest SS lives with us and helps take care of my DH.
My DH has a lot of health problems and is basically bed bound. That's where a lot of my stress comes from. I'm hoping to learn to handle my stress better. Now I either shut down or blow up.

Amy,

Congratulations on joining the challenge! You have a lot your plate. We (women in general) are bad about taking care of everyone else and ignoring our needs. Hopefully this challenge will help us all.

Hi! Wow, do I know I don't handle stress well...

I spent much of last year with dental/jaw problems, of which, probably half were stress related. I still have to constantly remind myself not to clench my jaw and I have to be very careful about eating any 'chewy' foods such as steak or pizza crust. *sigh*

Anyway, I'm a wife, mom to two boys (one grown, the other a teen), and a grandma. I work full time (my time is split between three divisions in my company), and don't take nearly enough time for myself.

My younger son is a very talented, smart, but introverted kid. He could go a long way in life, but tends to dwell too much on everything - he's been being treated for a few months now for depression. So, that's stressful as well, of course.

I love to destress by reading and knitting. And walks help a lot as well.

I'm looking forward to finding more ways to cope with stress and meeting others who are on this same journey.

Hi, my name is Judy and I'm finding myself not handling stress well these days. I was doing pretty well until last April when my 25 year old son told me he didn't want to have anything to do with me. He's dealing with anger from when I divorced his Dad when he was 8.

Then in September my brother (who is bi-polar) became homeless which grieved me to no end. So, in November he moved in with me. At the same time my job became more stressful because of a merger and then my husband and I started having problems.

I have too much on my plate!! I'm hoping this challenge helps. I'm eating healthy and seeing a counselor. Plus I just started taking Niacin for Depression/Anxiety. I'll let you know how that goes. I know there's so much more I can do to deal with all this.

Hey, I'm Shannon.. I'm 19 years old, am on my 2nd year of college and full time at a fast food restaurant. I go to school every weekday from 7:30-4, than mentor after from 4:30-9, i get home and workout for an hour and realize my day is gone. I'm getting way stressed out and don't know what to do to get myself relaxed and how to do things throughout the day with no time to myself. New to this website and hoping i can get lots of ideas to get rid of stress and become more healthier!. :)

Hello SP, My name is Jillian T from NYC and I have joined today because I have lots of stress in my life most of it is daily stress. But my stronger level of stress is not being able to have a baby, not being able to create a family of my own this kills me day to day and thought with losing weight it would have made things better but it did not help my situation. I just need to focus on something else but so hard. OH yeah and I LOVE FOOD LOVE LOVE LOVE FOOD sometimes I feel more than I love myself.

My goal for this week to get back on portion control....

I had lost a total of 70 lbs and gained 23 back so now I feel like I started all over again and HATE THE FEELING..

Good morning from Texas! I have taken the Stress Test and it shows what I already knew that I am a very stressed person. I have many disabilities that prevent me from exercising so I work at getting in my 25 steps a day. I have been losing weight for 3 years now (March 2009) and have lost 172 lbs. I need to lose 28 more lbs to reach the goal my doctor has set for me. I have several mental health issues that I take medicines for. Sometimes it seems that I am meeting myself coming and going. I must keep it all together to get to goal.

This week's goals I have set for my self is to learn more about my emotions and how they play a factor in eating. I am taking this Stress Challenge because I have to, in order to keep losing and then maintain.

Please read my Sparkpage and my few blogs to learn more about me.

Hi all!! My name is Artiesa, and I am probably one of the most stressed out people I know. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and coupled with my medications, I hope this helps me become a better version of myself. I just started SparkPeople after watching my mom lose lots of weight doing it. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle and be a better example for my 2 kids. I recently was medically discharged from the Army after 7 years of service and have put on about 25 pounds. My husband is in the Army and currently stationed overseas in Germany about to deploy, so it definitely adds to my already through the roof stress and anxiety levels. So here goes my leap into my hopefully less stressful life!

Hi, I'm PazkuRae, but I go by Rae. I'm 28 and have been married for almost 4 years, we have no kids yet.

I just joined SparkPeople, and decided to join the Stress Busting Challenge to help me learn how to deal with stress. I don't feel very stressed, but I know I am at least moderately stressed.

I know my stress levels will rise though. My Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma, and watching his progression through the disease and chemotherapy is very stressing on me. I often find myself worrying about him and my Mum a lot, and it only gets worse from here as he's just started a new intensive round of chemotherapy.

So, here's hoping that I can get a handle on my stress so I can help my family through this difficult time!

Hello. I am new to SparkPeople and this team. I am trying to figure out how to use the page and groups. I am a grandma raising grandkids and want to loose at least 46 pounds. That would put me at 200. I have a lot of stress due to parenting the second set of children, sure seemed easier when I was younger. I am 54 now, the five kids range from 15 to 2.

Hello. My name is Angela and I'm new to this group. I'm 34 years old and work in a high-stress job (customer service). That's where most of my stress begins...at work. And then sometimes, I bring it home...therefore creating a stressful homelife. I need to learn how to deal with the stress and be a more calm person. I'm hoping this group and this challenge helps!

Wow sometime you just don't know where to turn next, that s why I started this group. I have high blood pressure and I'm only 29. So many challenges in life death forcloser, unemployment, but when you go to bed every night try to say the only thoughts are about me,met and only me ,and positive, what I've accomplished only, then good night. I hope that can help others, I'm trying it now and is helping a bit : ) REMEMBER anything you can't control tonight, will still be there tomorrow with a fresh start to day! And everything!

This challenge is perfect timing for me! Within the last three years we have had almost more stress than we can handle: a major fire (uninsured) that completely destroyed our business including property belonging to 4 other people (that resulted in three lawsuits so far); at that same time I was laid off from my job; we changed churches (because of deception and lying by the leadership, and are not yet settled in a new church); my husband's daughter took us for a ride to the tune of about $15,000; my marriage is very cold after only four years; and now I have a breast lump (biopsy scheduled, but no health insurance). I feel like I have been on the very boundary of having a nervous breakdown. I need to learn to manage the stress to avoid sickness! And I need to get happy again. The only thing keeping me going right now is that I have committed to eating a hot, balanced breakfast so I can go exercise without setting off the cardio alarms (I still can't believe a machine can pick up on the stress when we think we can hide it so well!!) Anyway, I'm glad to be here and am hopeful about what I'll be learning and doing in the next four weeks to help myself....and maybe you! :-) Linda/56

Marie here. I am not new to Spark people, but I haven't really used it. I'm trying to get my focus back after regaining some of the weight I had lost before my second daughter was born. I need to lose a LOT of weight, and I know it won't happen overnight, but I do want to get back to steady and consistent weight LOSS.

I bring stress on myself because I let my life get disorganized and sporadic. That is why I have so much trouble with my weight. I'm scatterbrained and flaky, and this challenge is my way of pushing myself to develop better and more consistent habits for myself and my family. I have 2 daughters: 3 years and 10 months. I want to be better at handing stress for them.

My name is Amy and I am brand new to Spark. I joined to help myself obtain a healthier lifestyle for the sake of me and my child. I need to lose a solid 30 lbs. Honestly, I want to have more energy so that I can enjoy the time I have with my child and family.
My initial goal is to see what I can do in a month. I have a Disney vacation planned and I want to have more stamina to keep up with the group I am traveling with -- not to mention, pictures last forever and I'd like to look my best.
I have a stressful job and suffer from anxiety. I hope that I would see some of the traits that I have in others and learn successful coping skills.

be blessed & smile :)

Hi, my name is Jackie, I've been on SP a couple times before and I kept letting distractions get in the way. I have an anxiety disorder, so I must try to avoid stress but of course that can be nearly impossible to do. I'm from a small town in Alabama, I'm married and me and my husband have 4 kids altogether, I'm a little older than him so my two are the oldest, my daughter is grown, 22, and my son is attempting to be, 16. There's a lot of stress there with a 16 yr old son. My husband's son is 10, he lives with us and his daughter who is about to be 8 lives with her mom. I've started a journal on here as suggested and its been helping alot with my stress. I've also notice that the exercising and doing active activities gives me an escape especially fun ones, like playing tabletennis and volleyball on the ps3 and dancing, something I love to do when I was younger and a whole lot slimmer, just not in front of anyone yet!

Hi! I'm Caroline, and this is my 2nd time around with SparkPeople. I'm happy to see this challenge here and believe that stress is a major cause of some of my weight issues. I have a bad feeling about all the cortisol roaming my body . . .

Hi. My name is Megan. I started this site because I need more motivation to keep losing weight. So far, since graduation, I have lost 20 pounds, but I still need to lose a little more to be healthy. I just want to feel and look healthy. I have a lot of stress, being in college, working, living at home with my mom... I just need to find a way to lower my stress without lessening my work load... cause that can't change. I am far too critical of my life and need to change... :D So... Here it goes! emoticon

My name is Kelly and I am re-joining Spark People because I really need help with my nutrion and exercise. I also find that I am stressed lately, but didn't recognize it as 'stress' until I looked into this Team. I am very interested in using the suggested techniques to deal with stress. I identify myself as one of those people who need to stop being hard on myself for every thing that doesn't work out (IMO). Here's to a less-stressed me!

Hi everyone,

My name is Laura and I am a Social Worker in the UK. I have an extremely busy job in CHild Protection and at the moment am struggling with stress frequently. It doesn't help that my grandad is seriously ill at the moment and I live two hours away from my family.

I realised this week that I need help in managing my stress and the subsequent 'emotional eating'. I am jeopardising my chances of success if I don't seek support.

I also need to minimise my stress levels as I have previously suffered from stress related alopecia, following the loss of my gran. Although my hair has grown back I need to minimise the risk of this returning.

Any support is greatly appreciated!

Hi I'm Julie, engaged, mother of 1, recently found out I have high blood pressure and it freaks me out because I'm only 29. I'm fairly active and eat pretty well but need to find new ways to vent instead of bottling up and exploding . I think when you search for the answers ( as I was when I stumbled upon this site ) you may not not find what you are looking for but learn something totally new and inspiring!

Hello! I joined SparkPeople last week and I'm totally loving it. My stress comes from saying Yes to too many projects and thinking I can and should do everything at once. I'm looking forward to taking better care of my mental state!

Hello everyone,

I am a busy mom of three great children. I think my main problem is giving to everyone and not taking care of my self. I am excited to bust the stress in my life :)

Hello....my name is Susannah and I am a mother to a rambunctious 2 yr old little boy. I work at least 40 hrs a week plus go to school. My stress comes from working in a pharmacy and being so exhausted that by the time I come home, the only thing I want to do is plop my bum on the couch....which of course means ( to me anyways ) I am neglecting my boy, his father and my school. I tell myself I WILL get up early to workout and do homework, but lately find myself sleeping until the last possible minute. I am looking forward to being able to "Bust my Stress" and prioritize the important people ( me included ) in my life.

Be kind to others, but more importantly, be kind to yourself.

You ladies are wonderful and I'm so glad you are here! You will love this site. Everyone is friendly and supportive and you will get some suggestions and support that will astound you. I wish you all good things on your journey. If you have decided to lost a few pounds or to regain your health, or just de-stress, this is the place. All you have to do is sign on every day and chart your statistics and visit the blogs and read the comments. Please keep in touch.

Loretta, have you ever heard of Beth Moore? She is a Baptist Minister in Houston, but her fame is known a long way from Houston. She was abused badly in her youth but she now speaks of it quite freely, and is a wonderful, inspiring lady. She also has published programs on various parts of the Bible. That's how I found out about her. I am not a Baptist, but she is so inspirational she appeals to every religion.

Pauline

Hi Everyone! My name is Andrea. I am 30 years old, married, and I have an 8 month old son. I am from Cincinnati, but I have lived in Asia for the past 3 years. I am struggling to deal with the fact that all my friends and family are still in Ohio. I have been unable to travel home for the past 3 years. I am Active Duty Air Force, so quite frequently I work 12 hour days. Sometimes I go for extended periods of time without seeing my husband or son awake. With no support, high stress, and little sleep I am finding it difficult lately to cope. My concentration is getting worse and worse and I have been plagued by hypertension, mood swings, panic attacks, and headaches.

Hi! My name is Aiste, I'm 30, married and I'm also a mom of a pretty daughter who will be 2.5 yrs old during Easter. I have been struggling with weight loss problems recently and I'm still trying to overcome binge eating. I really need to take charge of my life and to care more about myself and my body. I have booked an appointment with an eating disorder doctor in a fortnight, that's the first time I will be doing that but I have decided to seek help cause it's obvious I cannot cope with that myself for so long. I have decided to join this team to help myself deal with stress which triggers my binge eating problem. Good luck everybody!

The darkest hour is just before the dawn. HELLO, life!

Hi, I'm Heather. I'm 29, single mom of 2 girls, both special needs. Oh, and a 50 yr old (my father). My oldest (she's 8) and I live with him, while my 7 yr old lives in a home for disabled children due to multiple disabilities, primarily Cerebral Palsy. My 8 yr old has Aspergers Syndrome and ADHD. I have Chronic Migraines, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, thyroid problem, plantar fasicitis, and leg cramps that come and go (I've had them since I was a kid. I'm not working due to those issues right now, but my stress level has always been pretty high. I don't think I've ever known my life to be without stress. So, I think in a way I "deal" with it well, but according to my therapist it's not normal. So, busting it out of my life is a pretty awesome idea. I've already started, I think, thanks to getting on the right meds, finally, and having some energy, but any extra help would be great!

Hi,
My name is Lauren and I am a 30 year old single mama of 3. Needless to say, my levels of stress are quite high, and at some points really sky rocket! I am looking for better ways to manage my time and also find that place where I enjoyed being a mom again. I am open to any suggestions that might help me function as a better mom and person as a whole. Any tips or welcomed. I am also in the process of building my own health and fitness business so that contributes to my levels of stress as well. Time management is a big issue for me as right now I don't have an effective means of it.

Greetings! I'm up for a more systematic approach to managing stress. I'm in my mid-fifties with teenagers and a high-pressure, sedentary job.

I'm a long-time meditator and enjoy exercise already, but this challenge sounds cool.

Hey, Tacklegirl- I think getting diagnosed with the anxiety disorder and depression was the best thing to happen to me. For the past couple of years, I thought I was going crazy, I really questioned my ability as a wife and mother, and I was always tired, but my mind would run a million miles an hour. I am now focused on setting positive goals for myself and surrounding myself with other positive and encouraging people. SparkPeople has already been a positive influence. Definetly looking forward to meeting others like you. :)
