I'm lindsey, I'm a freshman in college. I've been dealing with depression for over a year now, My most recent episode lead to a doctor's appointment which told me I have extremely high levels of cortisol. So I'm targeting stress as a contributing factor to my depression and hoping that makes a difference. So here's for trying.
(also, can't wait to start a stress journal...should be interesting)

Hi I'm Melissa. I am the mother of two beautiful children.

I joined this group because I my job as dean of students is extremely stressful. I am looking for ways to reduce my stress and hopefully reduce my stress related eating. I'm looking for support in my on-going battle to lose weight and reduce stress.

Hello All!

My name is Mary and I will be 32 years old in 2 weeks. I am a middle school Principal and I have 2 children, ages 3 and 5. As a full time mom in a stree-heavy job, I am sure this challenge is the one for me. I have found that my stress levels have more than doubled since taking this job and I am looking for any support or ideas in maximizing my emotional health :) Looking forward to the challenge!

I'm joining this challenge because my life is stressful to the max. Generally speaking I have good stress reducing techniques and practices. However, my techniques sometimes more support. My mother in law has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and her husband is horrible to work along side of in supporting her. He's jealous that we're not paying attention to him. Meanwhile her sister is calling and keeps hinting that she wants to move my mil 300 plus miles away from everyone my mil knows. I think this challenge will definitely be beneficial to me. :)

I like to pretend I am not stressed, but I took the quiz and failed miserably.
I like to think I can handle anything, that saying I'm stressed is a cop out.
There are times though when I feel like my job is killing me!

Hi my name is Pat and I just joined. I have been married for 37 years and have one son with three grandchildren. Stress is part of my everyday life. I have been journalising and that seems to help. Looking forward to learning new techniques. A few of the stressful things is my son moving more than 24 hours away. I don't get to see my grandkids or be a part of their life.
Thanks

My name is Crystal and I clearly just joined this challenge. I find myself stressed often, it really ebbs and flows with a few really stressful times throughout the year - normally work related. I'm joining this challenge because financial stress has been adding up and last night I had one of the worst, most debilitating migraines I've ever had in my life. With 2012 approaching, why not take a bit to assess all parts of my health.

Hi Everyone,

I actually do pretty well with keeping my stress down overall but I tend to be an emotional eater and eat when I'm bored, lazy, stressed, busy, or whatever. I overeat and I thought this challenge might be a good, reachable, challenge to help me start to improve my emotional eating habits.

I do great on the exercise end of health living, but food is my one area that I don't want to give in on. I guess I'm just stubborn! lol........Anyway, ONWARD!!!!!!!

Good attitude. The holidays have actually been stress free for me but I stress about having to go back next week instead of enjoying. Instead of reaching for some pizza I had another glass of water and off to scrapbook some and try to enjoy time off.

Dear Raven:

Valuing your life is not selfish. Bill Bryson said that he felt that the English language needed a new word: Self-ful. That means taking care of yourself in a loving way. Selfish means doing something at the expense of others. Caring for yourself is not selfish because it gives you a greater calm and a greater presence so that you can give to others. So find a good way to be self-ful today. This is respectful of the great gift of life that God has given you.

Hi, My name is Raven. I am so happy to have found this challenge. I often get so stressed that i get some nasty anxiety attacks. At least twice a week. Sometimes, i know that it is feelings from the past that surfaces. Pretty bad childhood, Molested and raped by the age of 10. Parents were pretty abusive. I have the best husband in the world, he tries to solve it all, but unfortunately there is some things even beyond his control. I am almost becoming a recluse, and piling on the weight as it feels like everyone is staring and laughing at me when I'm in public. I know it is all in my mind (hopefully), but what can i say, I'm only human. Numerous times i have been thinking of suicide, but I'm not that type of person. I am selfish enough to value my life that God gave me. oh well that is me.

Hi. My name is Ruth. There are different times when I have really struggled with stress. I'm not feeling overly stressed right now, but I like the challenges. I learn a lot from them. Probably the main stressful situations I am dealing with right now are job hunting, Christmas season and the short days, and relationships with my kids. I would also be happier if I felt more in control of my home (housekeeping) and time management. I think that I have some hidden, low grade stressors and that these can take a toll.

Greetings everyone! My name is Chris and I am new.
My stress has been on and off for several years, but is back on, once more.
This stems from my issues with my disabled hubby his bad habits along with irritating behaviors. Having a traumatic brain injury, is part of it, but some is how he has always been.
He has difficulty finding and keeping a job, which has taken its toll on our finances. He just was let go from a job that was the perfect fit,but for his not following company policy and now with cuts to the job coaching program he had before, the future is not so bright. He gets no income, at all.
I worry about paying all the bills. He worries about getting cigarettes and sweets. I am constantly asked to get him some. Ahhhhhhh!
One or the other would be easier for me to deal with, but both and I really let the stress grab hold.
I am hoping to get some relief, by learning techniques to manage this stress.
My main trigger is hubby, but I can't just get rid of him! lol
Perhaps I have said too much and you probably think that I am awful, but this is my stress.
I work three jobs and do keep a positive attitude most of the time.
I don't like the person that I become when I am stressed. I know it could be worse and I do count my blessings. Thank goodness!
I look forward to this journey and this team.

IMPROVISE,OVERCOME AND ADAPT!

Hello everyone!

My name is Kristen! I'm 24! I am a very high stress person. Being a full time mom, wife and student doesn't help minimize the stress in my life. But being so stressed is holding me back from actually enjoying so much of life that is just passing me by. I am ready to be done with my stress!

Cheers!

Hi I am Jan and I am a chronic worrier which then leads to my stress. I worry about everything and have been this way all my life and I am 51. My stress factors are: number one my marriage which is not working, my three daughters who one has an eating disorder at 15 yrs old, and my two toddler grandsons which one has autism. He takes a lot of attention (which I gladly give to him without a second thought) on a daily basis and numerous therapy sessions, our finances and just everyday life. All seven of us live in a small four bedroom house which in itself causes stress but somehow works. I am glad I found this team and hope to learn how to manage my stress better.

Hi! I've recently discovered that for me, anxiety and depression (both stress related) can have a dramatically bad impact on my blood sugar scores. As I get more control and relieve both of those, my blood sugar and blood pressure are finally getting better. Now, my stress level shows in solid numbers, so I know I'm damaging my body if I allow continued mounting levels of anxiety, fear, and sadness/depression to overwhelm me. The chemicals my brain releases in response to those emotional states, intended to be the classic "flight ot fight" moment, wind up staying permanently pumping. Those chemicals trigger other reactions from other organs and systems until finally my entire body is involved. I can't turn off the stressors, so I am trying to learn better ways to deal with them and to signal my brain to shut off the switch on stress and let my body recover.

I've been working on that issue for a year now and like I said, have made some strides, but not enough. I'm hoping to learn from y'all and share when I can and see what else I can do!

Hi , I am Kerry and have been a member of Sparkpeople since May. I somehow stumbled upon this team and felt that it would be good for me to add this to may healthy goals. I have arthritis and fibromylagia and my body is very tense and there is a lot of stress points that have pain. I believe that this will be an opportunity to see what I can change to alleviate some stress.

Good morning. I'm Sandra and I am stressed with way too many issues for my weary shoulders. My main stress is my husband's job was eliminated. The tough part is that he just turned 60 and we were already in financial struggles. I am grateful that I work, at a lot less pay, but insurance was through my employment. I live in a cold and snowy area, a place where Dr's routinely suggest taking vitamin D because of the lack of sun and cold/snow from November through May and sometimes into June.

Taking steps to deal with the stress and not just push it away letting it pile up. Grateful for this help.

Hi, I'm Amy, and I'm very glad to have found this team and challenge. I have been dealing with a lot of added stress since the summer in regards to my 22 year old son's addiction problems. I look forward to getting to know people here and learning how to better take care of myself when I have stressful days, instead of relying on food to self-medicate.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Cindy. The last 6 months for me have been extra stressful, and I've read about all of the health risks...including the ties to stress to weight gain...and sleeplessness...which also fuels weight gain. It's a lose-lose situation. So I'm glad I found this team, and I'm looking forward to taking part in the challenges...and enjoying the holidays even more, with a little less stress.

Hi, I'm Lee
I've been a Spark member a long time. I have a lot of extra stress right now as I'm working full time. I'm on the road 2 hours a day commuting. AND I'm a full-time online college student.
Stress???????? I'd say, "Yes".
I have to learn to deal with it better instead of eating more and exercising less. With all that I have going on, it is extremely hard to find the time or energy to exercise. But I must do something!

Hi everyone! I've lived with stress most of my life in one form or another. I come by it honestly because my mother suffered with anxiety for as long as I can remember. For many years, my doctor prescribed meds because the stress would usually come out in the form of headaches (both migraine and tension).

I'm working hard at finding healthier alternatives to deal with this.

Hi everyone - I have lived with bad stress most of my life. I have bi-polar and if I am hyperactive I worry that I can not do everything myself - NO HELP - When I crash I am stressed because I cannot do the things I am supposed to be doing. For the last 32 yrs. I have been a caregiver for my son who is profoundly intellectually handicapped. He was also more hyperactive than any one I have ever met. He needed to be supervised ALL the time.
After he had to move to a special home, I could no longer handle him physically, my dh got sick. He has had cancer, celiac disease, major stroke and now cancer again. I have taken care of him for 17 years.

I decided to stop the stress related to caregiving by admitting to myself that I was not doing me any good. So, hard as the decision was to make, I am making the move to place dh in an assisted living residence. He also has vascular demetia and very little short term memory.

It will be such a relief not to have to deal with him everyday and being housebound. The big move is Dec 16. Cannot wait!!!

Dianne

Hi, My name is Pat. I am 45 years old but feel like 145. Stress has basically ruined my health and my life. I have just watched a 23 year career be flushed down the drain.

Hi I'm new and I joined this Challenge because with Christmas coming up I am extremely stressed. I am stressed about money, what to make for dinner and of course getting gifts for everyone on our list. I am hoping with this challenge I can learn how to handle this stress better than I have been.

Hi! LisaW45 here. I'm majorly stressed due to having lost both parents in the last 2 years and major job and financial changes. I need to find better ways to deal with the stress as it has started affecting my health.

Like a typical stressed person, I'm trying to do EVERYTHING to fit in here on SP AND make sure my mom's properly cared for at the Rehab Hosp., so I forgot to introduce myself!!

Hi all! I'm Kelly. I live in NE Florida and yup, we DO have winter...albeit mild compared to others, but for us that have thin blood, below 70* is COLD!!! emoticon

I was a ICU/CCU nurse who transformed into a Sales/Marketing person d/t suffering the typical back injury that medical people usually suffer. My injury flared up several years ago and forced me to retire disabled. BUMMER! ...
My mom has Parkinson's and it has progressed to a difficult stage; difficult for her AND I as she needs more and more assistance. Between her PD and my chronic pain emoticon

So there we are; that's me, the Reader's Digest version!

I hope to continue to learn coping skills and stress reducers!

Hi my name is Lisa and stress is my middle name! Well not really, but it sure does feel like it. I live in NY. 2 kids, 2 dogs and a husband. I stress very easily these days and need to de-stress a lot. I am here for me mostly and finally! I need to think of me more and keep the stress out.
