I am a vegetarian and my husband is mostly vegetarian but he flexs once in awhile if we eat out.

Hi, I am new here. I am hoping that this challenge helps me pre-plan my meals more often. I pre-planned a days menu a while back and it helped me tremendously. I did it for that one day and that was it. I need to get more organized where meal planning is concerned. I am tired of wondering what to cook at the last minute. I find that when I don't have any idea what to cook then I turn to something unhealthy to eat. Then that usually leads me on a downward spiral. I also need to focus on cooking healthier meals with less sodium. I am suppose to be eating lower sodium foods due to a health issue that I have.

GM! I am a 49 year old Mom, G-Maw and wife from Texas! I am looking forward to learning more about healthy cooking. Not just for myself but for my family also. My husband has high BP and high cholesterol and I would love to learn how to cook meals that taste good and are healthy for us. Hope to learn about new foods/recipes and how to redo old recipes in a healthy way.

I am Martha. This is my second time around. I lost 40+ pounds and foolishly put them back on.
I live in upstate New York where there lots of farms and Farmer's Markets. The countryside is beautiful this time of year. Actually it is amazing all year round in Schuylerville.

Hi, my name is Linda, I am single, live alone in Canada, on week 3, I have many cookbooks including gluten free, allergy cookbooks, recipes for homemade barbecue sauce, ketchup, mustard etc. that are hard to find healthy versions. I eat at home mostly because am intolerant with digestive problems with lots of foods. I had wet/dry microscopic blood tests to show this. I do not change recipes into healthy versions because most of my recipes are healthy versions and do not need changing, pancakes without any flour etc.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

Hi, my name is Amy. Over the last year I have learned that I love to cook. It is a great way for me to decompress after a hard day. Unfortunately most of my recipes are hand-me-downs from my mom who loved fatty foods. I am hoping to learn some ways to make some of my favorite recipes my own and healthier.

Hi! My name is Karen and I've been working on a healthier me since 1/8/2017, starting at age 69.

I don't enjoy cooking but I keep trying. I'm always looking for "easy" healthy recipes. I have switched to whole grains and read labels now. My husband doesn't like much of what I cook but that doesn't stop me. If I like it, I can always freeze leftovers. We are in our 70's and he is old enough to fend for himself when needed!

Loving the Spark lifestyle!

Hello y'all. I have been a Spark member for a really long time, but have also been very inactive for a very long time (Aug. 2011 last updates). I am updating my Spark Page and renewing my weight loss efforts while making some big changes in several areas. Almost like starting brand new, except that I have managed to loose more weight than I thought since I was last active. Since the last time I was on Spark, I have lost my mom, added a grand daughter, married off my third child. Although the marriage was just this couple of weeks. I am diabetic, not on insulin yet, and my new primary has started taking a notice in my medical records which has made me realize I am not taking care of myself very well at all. That all changes today. I have weighed in, measured and changing my eating and exercise habits. I know I will find all the moral support I need on Spark. Looking forward to more interactions.

Hi I am a 34 year old married mama of 4 beautiful daughters. My husband is a medic who works away so I tend not to go all-out for meals when my kids probably won't eat them. Unfortunately this has unbalanced our diet to more comfort foods and less healthy food. I am worried on rebalancing our diet and teaching healthier eating habits to my girls ❤️

Hi! As a single mom who works full time and homeschool her youngest child, I have tended to make the cheapest, quickest meals possible. The problem is that the cheapest and quickest are not always the healthiest. Now I am trying to revamp not only my cooking, but am trying to encourage the children to eat better, also

Looking forward to getting to know you and to learn more about healthful cooking.

Frozen meals and prepared food are pretty much out of the equation for me, as is food from many of the local restaurants because of food sensitives - both carrageenan (an emulsifier) and sea salt are the most problematic simply because they seem to be in everything. An allergy to iodine isn't much fun either because it cuts out all seafood and is also found in lots of other things (like Caesar salad dressing, teriyaki sauce, pretty much all Asian food out there).

Fortunately, DH and I both like to cook although time is often a problem. (Who says things slow down when one retires?)

My primary goal for this challenge is to get back to cooking really healthy meals instead of relying on things like ordered pizza or picking up tacos on the way home.

Hi all. I recently joined a Biggest Loser Contest. I do not find my eating habits to be horrible, however, I could use a lot of knowledge, as far as, making healthy choices. I feel that once I am able to find a solution to correcting any bad habits I have; my ability to lose weight will be greater. Plus, my body will be thanking me for finally filling it up with fuel it needs.

Good Luck to all of us

I've been cooking all my life. I've just recently started cooking organic, not 100% yet but it's a big start. I'm running out of things to fix so hopefully this will help with some new ideas. I don't really know what to do on here but I guess I'll learn as I go along. Looking forward to so good recipes..

I'm used to cooking more meals at home than not, but now with portion control, looking closer at nutrition, balancing blood sugar, entering everything in the tracker, etc., it feels like I spend all day in the kitchen prepping food or on the computer tracking food. So, this challenge invitation just came at the right second. Hopefully it will work into a time-saving routine.

Hi! I just joined this challenge today. I restarted SP a couple of weeks ago after several years away. I was unhappy with my weight and it crept up even more over the winter. I am an "empty nester" and my DH and I recently moved to the St. Louis, MO area (St. Charles), so I need to invest my extra time into healthy activites - I was getting very sedentary. So far, I have avoided most of the health problems that plague the women in my family - adult onset type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and breast cancer- but my blood pressure has been high this year and the Dr. told me I needed to change my diet and exercise more. So here I am! I am looking forward to the motivation and support to eat healthier and plan better meals for myself and DH. emoticon

Just joined the Challenge.

Grew up in a Dairy Queen. Fast food IS comfort food for me. Hubby and I both dislike cooking, cleanup, not having a meal made for us, ... We're crazy spoiled and paying the price for too many years of living this way. Both overweight, Type IIs, multiple meds, plus I have an "orphan disease" that has me on disability. Life isn't great fun just now, and we're trying to break our addictions and learn to live again!

We have a vacation coming up in 3 months. Using that as a mid-term goal. That said, there's donuts in the kitchen. (sigh) We HAVE stopped our weight gain and both of us have lost a little AND dropped our A1c's over the past few months.

We can do this.

Im 39, mom of a toddler, wife (sometimes of a toddler)...and live in Canada!

This is a wonderful challenge - I am learning to love cooking again! This works in really well with my Biggest Loser challenge team where we have nutritional challenges every week. Helps keep me motivated and keep on task! I especially loved the organizing part where it is like I am getting ready for battle!

Awesome!

Hi, I'm new to this challenge. I'm in my 50's and live in Melbourne, Australia. I have 10kg to lose and also want some new ideas for cooking and getting more iron in my nutrition. I have been a member of SparkPeople for 5 months now and during that time I have lost 10kg. For the last month I have been at a constant weight so am looking for ways to lose this last 10kg before starting a maintenance program.

New to the team. I am in my early 50's and have 80 pounds to lose. I actually have been told by my nutritionist that I cook very healthy. My biggest problem is actually that I am not active enough. That being said, I am always looking for ways to eat even healthier so I am excited to see if I learn anything new from this.

Could always use more ideas on ways to meal plan, prepare varied brown bag lunches, substituting healthier ingredients, snack ideas. And I like doing the SparkPeople challenges. - Jackie.

My week one completed as well as a day of cooking healthy snacks for the lunches for the week ahead. I also made sourdough breads, cheese, yogurt, and 3 dinners that are now in the freezer and I pre packaged portions of oatmeal and granola for this week's breakfasts as well as prebagged my fillings for hubs and my green smoothies. It's been a busy weekend.

Do not ever let anyone tell you your not good enough. Find within yourself the center that makes you rise above all else and you will find true happiness. Everything else plays second and it all falls into line as it should be.
