Hello, names Richard, 28 years old and generally I have issues sleeping. I try to go to bed around 11pm at night and I generally find myself waking up often at around 3am some days. But generally I wake up at around 7am on most good days. Some days I find myself staying up to almost 1 am and I still wake up at 4 or 5.

My goal; To get at least 8 hours of sleep everyday.. 8 hours of solid sleep. And I hope that this group and the information I read will help me get back to sleeping solid again.

Hello Everyone!!!
I'm Janay and I'm 23 years old. I am such a wreck when it comes to sleep and need to get a handle on this. I am currently getting about 3 to 4 hours of sleep. I toss and turn and its the last piece to my weight loss puzzle. This challenge may be able to help!!!

Hi I am Kate and I am a 23 year old looking to finally start helping myself live a healthier life. A major part of that is helping myself get a better nights sleep so that I can have the energy to keep myself motivated.

I average about 5.5 hours a night if I am lucky. I either have trouble falling asleep or wake up at least once during the night.

I am hoping that by joining this challenge I start feeling energized and ready to face the day, especially since I am currently in Job Hunting mode.

Hi, I joined this challenge because I have been having trouble sleeping through the night. I function best on 7 hours sleep but lately I wake up every 2 hours and sometimes can't fall back to sleep. I am fully in menopause but still wake up in a sweat. I hope this challenge helps me get back to the sleeping pattern I had when I was younger.

Hello my name is Charm. I've been experiencing problems with my sleep. I hoped this challenge would help me improve my sleep quality. I typically get 6 to 7 hours of sleep at night. I usually wake up 1 to 2 during the night.

Hello My name is Raven, I have a career, 3 kids, wonderful husband, full time student and avid runner....the one thing I am missing in my life is sleep. Some day I am lucky if I get 5-6 hours. It gets so bad that I get sick before I slow down. I joined this challenge for me, I need to be on a sleep schedule!

Hi! My name is Kristen and I joined this challenge because this is the one area that I just CANNOT seem to get under control! I have done pretty well with my food and exercise so far, but for some reason I just can't get a decent sleep schedule. Some days, I am asleep on the couch by 9:30 and some days I lay in bed for hours and at midnight I'm still trying to convince myself I'm tired. Either way, I have to get up and get to work in the morning, so hopefully I can use this challenge to get in the habit of a better sleep schedule.

Hi: My name is Mayra

I joined this challenge to help get myself on a decent sleep schedule. By nature I am a night owl. I get that burst of energy and creativity at night. To then wake up at 6;30 on weekdays to get ready for school. I Need 2 alarms to get my butt up out of bed and I hit the snooze endlessly! I know....not good.... By noon...I am at school and in desperate need for a nap...cannot do that with a classroom full of students! :)

I do sleep in a bit on weekends...not much since I have a full schedule of things to do. My weakness is late night tv or late night writing. I am challenging myself to curtail the tv watching and find another time to to my creative writing so I may conform to my new sleep schedule.

Hate to sleep, currently using melatonin to help me get to sleep and it allows me to sleep a good 3-4 hours without waking up.
I usually only sleep 3-4 hours a night and as soon as i am up i am up for good. I never sleep in.
I also noticed when taking the melatonin i wake up very horny...anyone else?

Hello,
My name is Kim and I just joined this challenge last night. I take two medications to help me sleep. I would like to be able to get off them eventually. I try not taking them about 1x wk only to find I toss and turn all night. I've never had problems falling asleep but without the medication I only get about 4 hrs sleep because I wake up so frequently. I've started my sleep journal and passed the quiz with a 100. I hope this challenge helps me eventually getting a drug free night's rest.

Hi, my name is Eve.
I never had much trouble sleeping before, apart from the fact that my natural rythm is to sleep early and rise early.... and that can interfere with social life. Apart from that, no major problems, apart from very bad recovery after jet-lag!
However... all this changed when I joined SP and started exercising! Yep! On the good side, I can now stay awake later at night. On the bad side: I now systematically wake up between 3 and 4, sometimes much earlier than that. Can't always go back to sleep, so need a nap during the day! On average, I now only get 5 hours a night!
I know I started out too fast too strong, so I've already cut back on intensity and quantity for my workouts. It made no difference, except I'm less sore, which is already good. But I still don't sleep enough.... SO I need help so here I am ;-)

Wowlaulau...that should be a goal of mine! Stay up when I wake up no matter what time it is!
this morning would have been perfect, at 6:10, but I went back to bed and didn't sleep any more anyway.

Thanks for the nudge!

Week 1 goals. Stay up when I feed the cats at 7a.m. Spend 10 to 11 in bed writing or reading and quality time with cats. Kick the cats out to see if my sleep is deeper without them. Try not to eat after 8p.m.

I joined the challenge because diet and exercise do not seem to be working to get better sleep. I believe the quantity is okay but I'm not sure about the quality. I'm always tired and I am getting sick of it. Hoping to get some ideas for how I can get better sleep.

Hello fellow sleep deprived sparkers - I joined this challenge because I am not the best at getting a good night's sleep consistently. Exercising has helped but I still have times where I get into a pattern of not sleeping well. I have used many of the recommendations for sleep and have taken melatoni to help when I have a spurt of a few days not sleeping well (like the last few) which helps a bit. I think my problem is that I am relaxed at night and tend to fret and worry about minor things so I just need to try to clear my mind. Good luck to all.

HI I'm Tanya! I am the mother of 3 beautiful munchkins ages 9, 7 and 5 months! So as you can see I have my hands full! I get broken sleep due to the baby sleeping in our room and waking up with my husband's alarm (at an evil hour of 4:20 am)! I work 2nd shift until 11:30 pm Monday thru Fridays! I am really going to try to squeek out a few more minutes everynight by changing my habit when I get home from work! I hope everyone has good sleep!

Hi!

I'm Amy :)

I have a really irregular sleeping pattern, I either get no sleep or a good 15 hours. I have no happy medium. I also never seem to be able to get an early night and I can never, ever get up without hitting the snooze button.

I joined sparkpeople to get healthy as well as to lose the weight that has been creeping up and it seems something as 'simple' as a good nights sleep is a good place to start!!

*waves* Hi All,

I'm Chelle. I've suffered from occasional insomnia for around 8 years now. I'm a serial snooze-button-pusher during the week and a sleep-til-noon-er at the weekend. I'm hoping that by doing this and trying to reset my circadian (sp?) rhythm I'll be a little more alert and less prone to sleeping in for work :).

Hi, I'm Holly. My problem is with getting up in the morning. I am always hitting the snooze button and I'm often late for work, which my boss does not care for.Even thought I usually get my 8 hours, I am still tired when I wake up. I am hoping this challenge will help me to get up in the morning.

Hi I'm Yaya and I joined this challenge because I know my sleep schedule is jacked up. I'm tired even as I write this now. I know the quality of your sleep has a lot to do with weight loss and I can see how it's affecting me. I wake up for work at 6. I need two alarms since I can't wake up on the first one. Usually I didn't go to bed until midnight or after the night before. And that's probably because I had to take a mid-day nap. And this vicious cycle continues over and over. The weekends are worse, sometimes I don't go to bed until 3 or 4 in the morning and I'll sleep in until after noon. I also wake up frequently throughout the night and some nights it feels like I didn't sleep at all. I need to reboot,

If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down but the staying down.

Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing well. My name is Sara and I love to garden. Right now I have three geraniums, 2 cacti, a diffenbachia, a ficus, a miniature rose, an aloe, 2 Christmas cacti, and an African Violet. I plan on planting some bulbs in the spring since the outdoor growing season is almost over here in NY.

I've been around for a while (in this team) but am getting a little more serious about getting all the way through the challenge recently. I struggle less with getting to *sleep* and more with getting to *bed*--but it's becoming more and more clear that enough sleep is really important for me, so I'm trying to get better

I am on this challenge since last month. Since I started on this SP site after I read the articles here I started my challenge but I just join last month until now. I think this is forever challenge in my life. I was rocky last week, because of my relapse but luckily I am back to normal person again.

Some things stick into my head and its hard to remove this is why some times I struggle to sleep. But I am still my work outs daily in different ways. Some times playing skipping rope and walked, coach Nicole videos and etc. Mostly work in our farm. It make my body tired and sleepy. I forgot the events for the whole day and I sleep so deep with sweet dreams. Every morning I woke up happy and feel good.

I am convinced my MF has GERD but he says "it's just gas" He refuses to acknowledge that what he has is anything but just gas in his stomach. Men can be such dumbasses!
We get some otc pills that have simethicone in them (can't remember what they're called). He only gets sick when he overeats or has a very fattening meal (cheeseburger and fries).

He flats out refuses to eat most vegetables, so I put them in dishes and he eats pico de gallo on top of things. His diet is easily 85% carbohydrate, bread bread bread, granola bars, french fries, potatoes, chips, ice cream.

My problem is not so much falling asleep or staying asleep, but making time to sleep. I'm a full-time+ working mom of 2 grade-school boys with mild special needs. So once you add in exercise and "me time," sleep always seems to be the thing that is skimped (along with the housework).

I have GERD and it is worsening (and starting to wake me briefly about once a week). I've been reading how lack of rest and stress can exacerbate reflux. I tossed a coin whether to try this challenge or the stress-busting one first. So I'm going to make sleeping a priority for September to see if that helps.

My husband is an insomniac - the type of insomniac who is resistant to going to bed, because he'd afraid he won't fall asleep. His mom is also an insomniac - of the wake up 3 hours later and be unable to stay asleep. I've asked him to try the challenge along with me, and have given him copies of the 1st week questionnaire, but won't be surprised if he doesn't carry through with it.

Ari

Hi, I'm Karen....have trouble with getting good sleep. very frequently wake up with headaches for no apparent reason. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few years ago and got one of those machines with the crazy mask to sleep with. well, did that for a while and it was all good but I guess I got tired of it. Lately, 2 or 3 times a week, have been getting headaches that start when I wake up and just don't quit all day long. Dusted off my cpap machine last night and slept well with it with no headache in the morning. Just not sure how to deal with all the crazy vivid dreams that came with it. I don't mind the dreams but they are more interesting than my real life and I hate it when I have to wake up!

Hi I'm Franny and I found this challenge yesterday, among other things I suffer from insomnia so I take so pretty heavy sleep aides to help me fall/keep me asleep. I would eventually like to stop these. But every time I've tried, epic fail! I'm a tv sleeper, which I turned off last night and used a sound machine instead (been using for a while) I'm just really tired of taking medicine and am hoping to wein myself of of these.

I'm Robyn and have had sleep troubles ever since I worked 7-3/3-11 shifts. I no longer work these hours and I still struggle with going to sleep at night. I went from being a heavy sleeper to a very light sleeper and wake up religiously at 4am nearly every morning Part of this is due to our dog who thinks he needs to go out and eat at this time.

We started walking about 3 miles every morning, but by noon, I feel like I need a nap and will lay down and nap for a good hour or 2. I know stuff like this takes time, and we usually go to bed about the same time every night. Wish I could fall asleep as fast as my fiance does

Hoping this challenge will help out.

Hi I just found your challenge last night and hope that it helps me get back on a better sleep pattern. I go threw stages where I will not sleep at night but then in the day now I have gotten to where I hardly sleep at all anymore. I am up until 3 or 4am most nights wide a wake. then just crash all of a sudden but then the clock goes off at 5:45 so the kids can get up and start getting ready for school. So I really only get about 2 to 3 straight hours of sleep a night. Once the clock goes off I am pretty much a wake just kind of doze off for a few minutes here and there between everyone moving around getting ready and coming in to ask things and say good by. I finally make myself get up between 8 an 9. Sometimes earlier depends when dh has to be at work. This is not only bad for my health but i feel like crud for about the first 3 to 4 hours I am up.

Thank god dh is here and takes the kids to school in the AM because I know I would not be able to make the trip every morning. But here in the next few weeks he is going to be changing jobs and I am going to be here doing everything alone for months at a time. So I know I need to do something about this now. I am hoping that doing this challenge will help me do that and help me lose the weight I need to lose.

Hi! I have a hard time winding down at night even though I wake up early. I'm often super sleepy, like barely functioning, for the first half of my day and then super hyper late at night.

I came across this bedtime yoga routine that is helping. It's not too long and helps me relax at night.

Hello Every one. I just joined the team today. I never sleep more than 4 hours a night, and I always feel exhausted during the day. I have osteoarthritis , which contributes to lack of sleep because of pain in the joints and not being able to get comfortable. I have tried several prescription drugs only to find all they do is make me groggy, and make my joints hurt even more . Weird I know but even muscle relaxers make my elbows, shoulders, knees and hips ache. I am hoping to get some good tips here and maybe actually get a good 8 hours straight through of sleep.

Hello! My name is Kris, I have not slept more than 4 hours straight in years. A good nights sleep is a dream. I have a chronic pain illness, work full time to support myself (& my dog), most days I do not get home until between 8-10PM after leaving for work at 8AM. I do hope to pick up some good tips, loose weight & get healthy not to mention a good nights sleep.
Nice to meet everyone!
Kris

Hello. My name is Charm and I live in northwest Indiana. I haven't been getting a good night's sleep most nights lastly. I'm hoping this challenge helps to learn how to get a better sleep at night. I am not a person that takes naps. I wake up a few times at night in general which makes things a bit more difficult.

Good morning I am in New Zealand. I live with my DH and cats and chickens, though the chickens have their own house, and I work part time. I love my garden and I want to lose weight and thought I could commit to the sleep challenge and get more energy to help me stick with the exercise programme. I recently got a CPAP machine which has totally transformed my life. Now I sleep and rest instead of nearly dying hundreds of times a night. So now I have the chance to reestablish new routines to support my health. My experience with the sleep challenge will translate to my other SP goals, I am sure. Wish me luck!

If hunger isn't the problem, food won't fix it.

Hi! I am new to this team! I joined because I am really trying to sleep my 8 hours a night. I am a mother of 2 teenage boys (one in college, one a senior in HS) and I usually don't go to bed until they are in bed. However, now that school has started we have started our routine and we are making the effort to go to bed earlier. I am exhausted by the time I go to bed, but due to a fall I had two weeks ago I am not sleeping through the night because of pain in my arm. So tonight is Friday and I plan in sleeping in tomorrow (8:00AM) and now that sleep helps with the weight loss!! emoticon So good night to all.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Hi, my names Simone and last night I actually had a good nights sleep ...I thought I would share this info as its been years since this last happened, usually I average about four hours and that's a good night!
I had a relaxing bath (opposed to a shower) about half an hour before going to bed and a warm milk, I'm hoping this was the trick as I will try again tonight emoticon

Hi! My name is Stacy and I would like to get a better nights sleep. I usually toss and turn. Last night I gave myself an extra hour to get to relax and get to sleep.I laid down at 9 and read for about a half hour and was sound asleep by 10. Getting up this morning wasn't as terrible as usual. I only woke up once in the middle of the night that I remember.

Hi all,
Update. I read some of the sleep articles here, and I decided to try one suggestion: the milk at bedtime trick. I have slept a little better the past couple of nights. I can't say it's the milk, but maybe it helped.

:)

Ah yes. That's the key -- the staying asleep part!!!!! If I can get to bed before him -- I'm golden. It's those nights when he's had a bad day and decides to go to bed early, then I'm doomed!!! But he's a sweetheart, and I love him.

Hi - I'm so glad to have found this team and challenge. I had a chiropractor tell me once, that if you go to bed the same time every night and get up the same time every morning, you'll actually set your "internal" clock. I tried it. Ironically, it doesn't matter what time I go to bed -- I still wake up every day at 5:30!!!!

I'm hoping to learn how to relax and let the day's worries melt away . . . . . . . and fall asleep -- like Rebecca -- before the snoring begins!!
