Can't imagine falling after just have surgery! Ouch is right. Glad you're friend is doing better - and yes, those Call buttons do come in handy :-)

A friend of mine fell at the hospital -right after his tkr. He had it in his mind that he could walk to the bathroom without help. He had to go back into surgery to repair the damage he'd done. But his was such a hard fall on a fresh knee. Ding dong. He's fine now..now he knows to always listen when the nurses say Use the Call button.

Oh my ---- OUCH!!! I fell about 6 months after my TKR -- (and yes I think I did the same thing first - swore!!) but then I hobbled into my exes house (long story) and iced it...while watching my kids open their Christmas gifts I brought!!! (it was on Christmas Day) So not the best thing for us to do -- but you're right - those parts are pretty tough.!!

Glad you jumped right in here -- great to hear from you!!

I fell on my steps not quite 3 weeks after my knee replacement. The replacement was fine, it just slowed the recovery on my soft tissues and gave me some really colorful bruises on my tush :-) But peace of mind is always good. Your new parts are stronger than the old ones, but you can still sprain/strain the soft tissues in there.

The first thing I did when I fell (okay, after I swore) was have my son get me an ice pack and the cordless phone. I just sat there on the porch steps with ice and called to ask Dr if it was okay to get up :-) Any time you have heat or swelling, grab the ice. Then the phone if you're concerned.

I've had both knees replaced, and fell a few years ago landing square on both knees .... then my face. My knees were fine, but my nose was broke.

About a month ago I sprained my right knee .... but didn't realize that's what had happened at the time. It was a Sunday morning so I called my surgeon. He was concerned about my toes and whether or not they had color. I stayed on the couch with my knee elevated and iced. I went in the next day and had xrays taken. No damage done.

I remember my surgeon telling me that the replacements are very strong and it would take a lot to loosen them, but it's always ..... always important to an checked out.

Please let up know how you make out.

I broke my knee 9 months ago today and had my TKR on June 19th, not quite 4 1/2+ months ago. So far I have not fallen but I sure don't want to either!

Thank you for responding. It's been 6 mths for me too. I think I'm in the same boat as you... swelling and sore. I've been icing it all weekend along with just staying off it. I'll find out for sure tomorrow after I see my doctor. Like you said peace of mind means alot!!!!! :0)

About 6 months after my 1st TKR - I fell directly on my knee on ice -- and it was Christmas Day -- and couldn't even get up! I kept ice on it most of the day but it did swell so the next day I did call the dr. nurse and talked to her.....she thought it would be best if I came in. (and actually I'm very glad she did b/c I thought so too) He did a few movements of my leg and felt that it was fine but did order an ultrasound....which came out fine. It just took a while to get over the swelling and bruising.....please make sure you put ice on it. So I think it s a good thing you're going in to your dr.....so much better safe than sorry (even though it'll cost you some -- peace of mind is worth any amount in my book.)

I just wanted to ask the question if any of you have fallen after knee surgery? Last Wednesday I fell pretty hard and landed on my knee. I couldn't walk on it on Thursday at all but could bend it. It's way better today, I go in tomorrow for xrays and a follow up with my doctor. I think I'm going to be okay just wanted to check with all of you????? Thanks!
