I want to thank everyone who sent me welcoming emails and making me feel like I was right at home with friends!

My name is Kim and I live in beautiful Bloomington, Indiana. I have 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 grown sons and 2 daughter-in-laws and 1 newborn grandbaby with another one on its way come December. I stopped smoking, cold turkey, 5 months ago after 33 years of a pack a day habit. Because I am very petite (5'0" tall) and 47 yrs old, I did not want to put on the typical weight associated with quitting smoking so, I went on a diet at the same time. I know, I know................how crazy can you be!? I have stuck with both, but somehow managed to put on 12 - 15 pounds. I think my body went into shock and my metabolism went into a coma! LOL I was not exercising either. Even though I am very pleased at the progress I have made with the quitting smoking, I cannot say the same for my weight and over all body condition.

After a great deal of frustration, I stumbled across Spark People. What a great website! It has everything I need to stay on track each day and then some. After tracking my daily food intake I realized that I was letting little things sneak in that added too many calories on a daily basis. I hadn't owned a set of scales since I was in my 20's and went by how my clothes fit so, I went out and bought scales to weigh myself with and clothes to workout in. This way I can make myself accountable and in control. I have started a walk/jog for 2 miles 3 times a week and strength training on the off days. I drop my exercise routine on the weekends to give the body a little rest. :) I have only been with this for a week, but I have enjoyed it and feel so much better! I feel this will be something I can stick to and accomplish my goals and ideal weight.

Thanks so much Spark People and I will continue to post my progress!

Kim
