It's a great support to know that others out there are trying to do the same thing as we are trying to do.

We are no longer alone. That gives me a warm glow.

Hi there Athena, so pleased you have 10 days. Great going, so happy you have joined us here. One day at a time made the journey seem less daunting for me. I couldnt imagine the rest of my life without a drink, but just for today, it seemed doable.

Thank you for the warm welcomes! I am so glad I finally got the courage to join this team. I held back for the past few months because, I kept making excuses to have that alcohol. I was not ready to say enough. I am now.

Good morning everyone. I am new to the team. I have been struggling with banishing alcohol from my life. I have told myself many times that I could drink in moderation, but that is just an excuse. The truth is that I need it out of my life. Any amount of alcohol just pulls me down. The longest AF streak that I have has is about 10 days. I really want to support others and get this out of my life for good. Its the only way I can be healthy.

Good Day to all!
I've been looking for a team around this struggle, I'm glad I found one that does not have thousands of members! :) I've been struggling with addiction and weight for years and can't seem to get a grip on things. My husband has been sober for 17months now and I couldn't be more proud and supportive towards him, although, I'm finding myself hiding my own drinking habits (even though he tells me not to) and I've noticed I'm drinking more than I used to! My weight has gone up and down along with my emotions...I'm afraid I'm going to lose control at some point and just lose everything I just got back. I'm also struggling with not wanting to attend AA meetings because he does and I'm afraid of all the things he has shared with strangers that will have an opinion of me before I get my foot in the door. crazy I know....so here I am again on Sparkpeople because I know this site and the teams I join (when I'm committed) have helped me so much in the past. Time to get involved again! HELP!!!

Hi Everybody!!! I just joined SparkPeople today. I joined this team because as of last Sunday, I have decided to give up alcohol for good. I am a weekend warrior and beer is my drink. Starting Friday night after work and through Sunday evening, I usually have a beer in my hand. I have been drinking on the weekends ever since I was 13 years old (I'm now 51). I have taken many breaks from drinking over the years, but in March 2013, I drank too much while camping and fell in the fire pit and got 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my hand and chin. I'm fortunate; it could have been so much worse. It has taken me a while, but I have finally decided that even though I only drink on the weekends, I still drink too much. I want to live a 100% sober life 100% of the time now.

Thanks for letting me share, and I look forward to getting to know all of you, Sandy

Hi there Regina, and a warm welcome to the team.

I am a sober alcoholic and for me one drink was never enough. I always wanted more and then more as time went on and the addiction progressed. Finally I discovered I could not stop - even had I wanted to and ended up in AA where thankfully the programme helped me to get sober.

Spark people is a wonderful place to lose weight and find friends and support along the way.

Sorry I can't be more helpful in response to your actual question.

Hi everyone! My name is Regina. I joined SP 3 weeks ago with the goal of learning how to take care of myself better. I am about 5 pounds from my goal and what keeps me from reaching it is my love of red wine with dinner! I am fine if I have one glass, but any more than that and it affects my sugar and I get the munchies like crazy. The past year has been full of much heartache and loss and I found myself drinking more than my customary glass...and as expected, my weight went up, my mood stayed low and I found myself wanting to sleep rather than go to the gym. Now, I am all for the mourning process, but at what point am I doing myself more harm than good? That is where I'm at now. I am trying to regain the balance that has been elusive over the past year.
I am happy to be here. I am excited to meet new people. I look forward to what the future holds.

Hey there Alayna, pleased you have joined the team. This is a great place for support.

We can do this - one day at a time. Always just for today and not picking up the first drink.

Hello. New to team and new to sobriety (again). I quit using 6 years ago for 2 years but took that first drink and before I knew it, I was back in my old cycle except that I waited until my son was in bed before taking my first drink.

Jennifer and Aurlie recommended this team and I am happy to find you.

Attended first AA meeting yesterday and it helped me a lot. When I quit years ago, I did it with mainly online support and help from my therapist. Decided this time, I need to be more humble and truly admit that I am powerless.

Have been praying this morning. Will do an online meeting tonight as cravings are strong this morning. I have a 4 year old son and am married to a drinker. DH is supportive but it still hard. Especially as I am primary caretaker to DS and have little free time for local meetings. :( I will keep on keeping on and do as many meetings as possible.

One day at a time.

Hi there RJ, a warm welcome to the team. You are not alone in eating sweets. In fact when I first joined AA it was suggested I eat something sweet to help with the craving.

I too am sober for several years - I don't think of wanting to drink but I do get periods when I am aware of alcohol and I do not like them either. Last night I was wanting a diet coke. I never buy it and usually drink ice cold sparkling water. I was in a very happy mood, but the longing for the coke reminded me of how it used to be with alcohol and I never want to go back to that place again.

I just handed it all over to my Higher Power. I gave thanks for another day sober and prayed for the grace to stay sober one day at a time for as long as I live. I would never have made it without AA and my Higher Power.

So pleased you have joined us.

Hugs Wispy

Hello team! Although I have been alcohol free for over 13 years, I still think about drinking when I'm stressed or upset, unfortunately I've substituted sweets for the alcohol and I'm trying to change that. I'm so glad to have found this team. emoticon

Hi there Denise, so good to have you join us on the team.
I too learned so much in AA and am forever grateful for the love and support.

Looking forward to meeting you on the LATI thread (our daily stop in spot). :o)

emoticon My name is Denise, and I'm new to the team. I recently celebrated 1 1/2 years of sobriety. Using the AF counter. I have 561 days today! My sobriety started after a DUI arrest. How humiliating and a BIG wake-up call that my drinking was out of hand - more precisely, out of control. I was court ordered to attend AA. meetings.

At first I was living under the misconception that I just needed to control (limit) my drinking. Thanks to AA, I finally came to the realization that (1) I am an alcoholic (not merely an abuser) .. and (2) There is no such thing as controlled drinking for an alcoholic. I should also add that it IS possible to have fun, to socialize, celebrate, etc without drinking and still have a really good time! As an added bonus, I can remember everything and feel good the next day!

Hi there and a warm welcome to the team.

You sound so hopeful and upbeat - way to go. I am also low carb, if you would like a team to help you with that aspect of life there are several on Spark. I do low carb/low cal cycling and it suits me down to the ground.

So pleased you have joined us. One day at a time we can do this.

New member! I'm 6 weeks as of Sunday. It's my first time to feel like I really quit in 12 years. It's weird, I really feel like a bit of a different person. I know I'm Guitardaddy but I haven't wanted to touch a guitar in 6 weeks. In fact I've been selling some of them to buy a mountain bike. I don't watch the news or listen to talk radio anymore when I was religious about it for a decade. I started low carb after a week of eating ice cream which I never do and my mind is clearing up really well as well as pounds falling off. Anyway, didn't mean to ramble, I'm just like a kid in a candy store!
