Just read about your mom Whitney & wanted to say that I am thinking of you & your family. The news sounds so discouraging, but this is a time when your family has to pull together to help your mom in any way possible to get through whatever is going to happen. My own father died of lung cancer & my daughter also has cancer. It affects everyone, not just your mom.

Best wishes, Vicki emoticon emoticon

I didn't know you were part of this team either!! I was just searching for an ovarian cancer team, but this was the best thing that I could find!
Yes.. we're going to have to hang on and fight hard!! I hope things go well with DH. I'm always here for you if you ever need to talk!

Oh, Whit! It is so sad to see you over here on this team. I hope they are able to do something for your mom. We are still in the exploration process with DH. I am not ready to lose him either. We will need to hold on to each other and fight!

My mom noticed a few years ago that during her period her stomach was hard. I told her that she needed to go to the doctor. Then she noticed that it was also hard when she wasn't menstruating AND it was getting harder all over.. not just at the bottom of her stomach. I told her to go to the doctor. She didn't. She's at the point now where her whole entire stomach is hard. Last month she finally went to the doctor with back pain. The doctor literally said 'oh sh*t' and didn't even charge her for the appt (She doesn't have insurance)
We went to a hospital in Aurora thinking that they don't turn anyone down, that's what we've heard anyway. We get there.. they do cat scans.. a blood transfusion.. and lots and lots of exams. She has three massive tumors that are the size of footballs. They wouldn't operate because 1.she isn't an emergency 2. she isn't homeless 3. she isn't illegal. Nice system right?
They told her that she for sure had ovarian cancer but it looked like she had another..
Finally after a month of going back and forth to try to speak to an oncology specialist, she is told from the specialist she is terminal, the endometrial cancer is killing her.. if she just had ovarian she'd be curable.. They have no idea how long she'll live. They said that surgery will help her but they can't do it. Every day we hear something different. One day she is over qualified the next she can have surgery.. They don't know if the cancer has spread or not.. so we're waiting on that. Uterine and ovarian cancer are curable.. why they said that, I have no idea.. Unless they are pretty sure it has spread and they know for a fact she doesn't have a chance..
Her next appointment is Aug 1. Hopefully we'll finally hear good news...
It's been really hard on our family.. we've talked about funeral arrangements and last wishes. My mom is only 48. She is supposed to be here another 50 years... not five months.....
