Stina, what is important is you learn about this illness and that you take care of your own health. My son is dealing with Testicular Cancer now, so I'm learning all I can about how he should live a healthy life and avoid any more cancer if at all possible.

Give your Uncle a hug.

Before I was born, when my dad was 10, my Grandpa died of brain cancer. That was over 30 years ago and they know more about cancer now, but not much.
My name is Christina, or Stina. The reason I joined this group is because in October of last year my Uncle (my grandfather's brother) was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme. I'm very close with my Uncle, he's like a grandpa to me since I missed out on having my actual grandpa around. What they know about this type of tumor is that it's unlikely to spread to other parts of the body, it normally gets rather large before it starts showing symptoms, and there aren't any cures, all they can do is hold it off and buy some time. With the elderly like my Uncle who is 79 it's even less hopeful. They give him a year. Every time I think about that it takes my breadth away. A year is no time at all, it's like a blink of the eye.
He's had surgery and finished treatment and now it's just wait and see how well he responded. I fully believe in miricles and I pray for one everyday but I don't want him to suffer anymore. I feel almost selfish at times praying to keep him here when he's had such a full and wonderful life. When we found out all of this we asked him if there was anything he would like to do before the end and he said, "no, I've pretty much done it all." That is such a wonderful way to feel. I only hope I can be so lucky.
