Hello Jen,

I understand what you are saying. I had a mild surgery and couldn't exercise for a while and I am surprised how quickly I went back to old habits. This past month I have been so down on myself and that surely doesn't help.

Yesterday, I found my old pedometer and put it on. Last night I was amazed at how many steps I had taken during the day. Three times more than when I started in April...and that was only for a half a day. It has sparked some motivation in me and I promised myself that I would work up to 10,000 steps for a daily goal. That is a while off yet, but it gives me a daily visual on my progress or as a reminder that I need to get moving more.

Maybe a challenge would be helpful. What do you think? I thought about starting a challenge with another team, but if anyone is interested we can start a challenge for our team.

I was thinking that it could entail entering our daily step # and keeping track of our progress. At the end of the month, the one who increased their steps the most would be considered the winner of that month. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Julia

I know for a fact that it only takes a couple of weeks to get OUT of bad habits! I had some minor surgery and could not exercise-thought it would be a nice break. It totally sent me in a downward spiral, so yes, I'm making small goals to get back to the healthy lifestyle I was doing so good at. Non food rewards. Hmmmm... what an interesting thought!

I agree, set goals and rewards. Also fit activity into your everyday schedule. Find a place for it. It will fit. This keeps you going and you can set fitness goals too. It only takes a couple weeks to make it become habit. Best of luck to you!! emoticon

I agree with setting a goal and giving yourself a non-food reward when you reach it. Divide it up into mini-goals and take it one day at a time.

The best piece of advice I can offer is to have a goal or maybe a challenge to work for. There are some great ones here at sparkpeople and for me they help me stay committed to seeing the scale go down.

I've lost weight through various weight loss programs and a lapband. I'm starting to fall back into bad habits and still need to take off those last pesky pounds. I KNOW what to do, I'm having a motivational problem. There is a lot of support and education here, and I can see myself being successful as long as I stick with it. Glad to see an Iowa group. Winter is an issue with me and I'll be glad to read all your ideas about how to stay active and eat right.
