Diets do mean restriction as someone said but healthy living also has restrictions. I love pizza and sugar but I can't have the amount I'd like to have and be healthy and lose weight. Restrictions aren't necessarily bad, it just need to be done in a healthy way.

There is a diet plan going around a group of people I know that limits carbs to 30-60 a day (not sure of the measure). I'm not sure I'd be very healthy on that limit but SparkPeople's limit of 169-244 is attainable, most of the time :)

Pamela is exactly correct. This is not a "diet". You have to make lifestyle changes that you can maintain. As Pam said if you want pizza, have some. Maybe only one or two pieces instead of 3-4 and only once in a awhile not 2-3 times a week. You need to be able to maintain a healthy life. Ifyou diet to lose weight then you have already found out what will happen, when you stop the diet you gain the weight back. Try watching your calories. 1200-1600 a day depending on your activity level. Once you reach your goal you can up your calories to 2000 or so and maintain your weightloss without gaining back. The healthier food choices will get you a lot more food and still stay within your calorie. Exercise is vital in a healthy lifestyle. But you have to make it something you enjoy. I run, I love running, I will run the rest of my life. I love aerobics class and kick boxing. If you enjoy what you are doing you will continue to do and it's not near as hard to make yourself do vs something you don't like to do. You have to try a little of everything until you find what you like and you may be totally suprised to find what you truley enjoy. When I was 300+ pounds I never thought I would enjoy running, heck I couldn't run for 20 seconds at a time let alone a mile or two. But now I run 2-4 miles a day, because I want to.

Find what you like to do,
Make healthy food choices,
Watch portion sizes,
Watch calories.

I agree with everyone else about not being on a diet. This is eating healthy. If you look at it that way, then you will succeed. Diets mean restriction. I also enjoy a lot of my favorites in moderation. As for exercising, I do anywhere from 45-60 minutes a day using exercise DVDs. My two favorites are the Turbo Jam program and the Yoga Booty Ballet program. Good luck with your journey!

I agree with the previous poster. I didn't lose my weight with a DIEt, but by adopting a healthy life-style. That means getting balanced nurtrition... about 50% carbs, 25-30 % protein and remainder in fat. I track my food everyday on the nutrition tracker. I have finally learned that it is portion control and getting fruits, veggies and whole grains that matters. Do I eat "perfectly" every day? No. Did I lose the weight instantly? No. (It took 8 1/2 months to lose 60 lbs.). Do I exercise every day. No. Do I exercise a LOT more than I did. Yes.

Lost 65 lbs and maintained since 2006.

I am convinced that I'm not on a diet. It's all about making healthier choices. If I want pizza I'm going to have it, but this time I might control the portion. I'll work it into my daily ranges and I won't have it every day. I can't succeed on a diet but I'm pretty sure I can with making good choices.

I've been trying to stick with the calories, fat and carbs that Spark People has laid out for my weight loss goal. I have been trying to exercise for 35 minutes a day and then increase it when it becomes more of a habit.

I lost a lot of weight after my son was around 6 months by exercising and because I was on a dairy restricted diet so I could nurse him. I lost it easily but I don't want to restrict dairy. I gained it back after I had my second daughter because my hormones were out of whack and I was depressed a lot. She's five now and I've got to give up that excuse.

I did South Beach Phase 1 last year and have no complaints about South Beach except we went on vacation right after Phase 1 and I didn't want to go back through Phase 1 again.

I was just wondering how everyone else is losing weight. I just have a real hard time sticking to diets. I was on the hcg diet for 3 weeks and that was a very strict diet. After stopping that I have gained 7lbs back right away. I just can't stick to diets, So I am just going to try watching my portion size and exercising my butt off! How is everyone else going about losing weight? What kind of exercises are you guys doing? emoticon
