Hi there, I am a 38 year old Army Wife stationed overseas. After 2 hysterectomies and an Regenerated ovary removed 2 months ago I have been officially thrown into Menopause. I am not on any HRTs and the weight gain and hot flashes form hell are killing me. Getting naked and laying on the cold kitchen floor is not cutting it and sleepless nights are causing me to nap during the day or be so tired at the end of the days I am working that I am too tired for exercise much less eating right. If I can conquer the nasty "HOT FLASH BEAST", I think they would solve a big part of my lethargic and weight gaining issues. I am sure I am not the only one in here with these battles...who's with me?!?!?!

Keep moving!

Hi everyone...I am in perimenopause and it has been a wacky ride so far. I will be 40 in a few months and have gone to a few doctors unwilling to help me with my symptoms. I have finally found someone willing to address my symptoms despite my age. Now that I am starting to feel better I want to try and get control of my health again. It is so hard to lose weight but I think that is part of this process. I look forward to learning and growing through this journey.

Remember, perimenopause is also a journey. And the journey does end. We seem to come out the end different in many ways. It IS a challenging time for most. Please feel free to peruse the topics and add comments.

We are here to encourage and support you in any way we can.

Hello! I'm new to the group but not new to perimenopause! LOL! Does it ever end? Is it like having your regular cycle but with benefits like hot flashes?! Does it ever end or do we just adapt to it?
I've been a gypsy the past 15 years wandering around the country. I finally found where I want to put 'roots' down. I've been here just over a year. It 'feels' like a long time but I understand it's not. I struggle with not having any real support or encouragement in my world.
I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all!

The hrt I'm on is not bio. I was on bio but it stopped working, so trying something new. Thanks for the support. Nice to know I'm not alone.

Hi, I'm 42, married, 2 sons teen and preteen, and work. I'm not all the time, irritable, dry, periods are irregular, but still coming, on hrt, it helps but I may need to increase as I'm on the lowest dose at the moment. I eat well, exercise often, add yoga regularly, try to get out with friends now that my boys are OK are their own a bit and busy with sports and friends. Mostly I have the crazy brain side of things, I swing from snapping, crying, and laughing.....ugh

I hear ya!

I let my hubby know when it isn't a good time for me to make decisions. He's understanding it.

Going for a run can help. What else are you doing? Are you getting enough rest? Are you eating properly (that was one of my problems).

Hi,

Not sure if I'm in the right place. Just tired of the emotional rollercoaster.

Right now in need of a hug and soon I know I'll be on a high. Trying not to let it affect my decision making and it's driving me nuts.

Now I've got that off my chest.

Hello everyone emoticon

Off for a run, hopefully that will crash this mood.

Hi,

I'm 47, kids grown, married, love exercise, but have fibromyalgia. So, I adjusted, upped the yoga and walking, but have recently re-started at the gym, I find that my moodiness & potential depression just gets blasted away with my music and my sweat! Missed working out the past 4 days due to illness, and was going to return today, but still not quite up to par. TOMORROW!!

Anyways, hi - nice to meet you guys!

I have been on Spark for a long time, and I am just now entering the lovely phase of Perimenopausal weight gain. I am doing a lot of healthy things for this time in my life and I am glad to find the forum. I have had to call my doctor just today for a new symptom that has crept up. Sigh.

Glad to be here and glad to find a team who is experiencing the changes and the next phase of our journey as women.

Thanks!

HI Guys, I joined Spark about a week ago and this is the first group I have joined. I am 47 and at the tail end (I HOPE!!!) of my peri menopause. I have had symptoms for the past 5 years. But, I'm thinking it's been almost a year since my last period. My hot flashed were the worst of my symptoms. From some of the other posts I've seen, I got off lucky. At times though, I thought I would go crazy, mostly for the lack of sleep from waking up all night long. I used over the counter stuff for a while, till that stopped working and now I take "Wisdom Menopause Formula" and as long as I stay away from any high carb intake, that seems to do the trick for me. For anyone suffering, I highly recommend giving it a try. It really saved me! Anyway, I just wanted to say "Hi". I'm so happy to be part of a group that gets me. Looking forward to it.

Wow! You sure have gone through the wringer backwards!! Makes me feel like what I am going through is a piece of cake. Thank you for posting!

Do you feel comfortable make a post out of your question about soy? You will get more response that way. If not, let me know, and I'll post it for you.

About dealing with hot flashes and night sweats, we have some really good threads about those. Let me/us know if they help. Keep us posted.... we care. emoticon

I have been away so long, so I thought I would introduce myself again.
For the past 4 years I have been going through the ringer. Periods twice a month, Had a DNC to see if there was anything wrong, came back negative. Then I had an Endometrial ablation. It helped a little, I only had my period once a month again. Diet and exercise didn't work. A year after the endometrial ablation I had another DNC. All the ultra sounds showed cysts and fibroids. I didn't have any energy. In March this year I had pain so bad during my cycle I went to the ER. They didn't find anything other than a possible ruptured cyst. Well in the past 4 years I have had a few of the ruptured cysts and this was way worse. In April it was normal then in May I was throwing up. June was the end, I was throwing up for 7 days straight. Then I was doubled over in pain. We went to the ER again and again nothing was found. My doctor was great through the whole thing. I went in after the ER visit and I told him I was done make the appointment and let me know when to be there to take this thing out. He laughed and told me it was not that easy but him being a great doctor had me in June 24 and I had a full Hysterectomy. Everything had to go because the ovaries had cysts too. Anyway I found out I had Adenmyosis. Ever heard of it? Neither did I. It was my uterus fighting everything we did. I was told more painful then endometriosis. So now I have night sweats and hot flashes during the day. A fan is my best friend! I have one on my desk. Since I have had the surgery I have lost about 15 pounds and feel great. Still would like some advice on the hot flashes and the night sweats. My regular doctor says soy will help. Anyone have success with it?

Thank you so much for the info! Yea, the running and triathlon part of my life was a blast and I'm glad I did it when I could.

I am scrutinizing my food lately and trying to cut back on some things I've overly eaten here as of late. I'll continue trying to eat a bit cleaner. I'm tracking again as well to see what I eat daily, so that might help.

Good morning! I've been with SP for a little while now and very please with it. I came across this forum and joined immediately as I have been struggling with hormones and my cycle for over a year now. I hope to find some information to help me along.

I'm 54 and still not in menopause yet though my doctors keep telling me I'm close. I married to a great guy for 35 years with 3 adult children and 8 grandchildren.

Looking to lose about 50 pounds, get healthy and manage my hormonal issues.

Wow! What a story.... what a history!!! Thanks for finding our team. Please take a look at our topics, they may help you.

I was a caregiver to my mom and that wasn't good for me.

Bummer about the knee surgery. Sure looks like you had a blast running per your SPpage pictures.

I'm glad you are now taking better care of yourself and have found something you enjoy doing.

Also VERY glad you wanted BHRT. I've been taking progesterone cream for a few years now. Was at first, taking it wrong. Geesh! I believe the cream helps with only so many symptoms. Keep researching (our team topics may help).

Have you scrutinized the food you are eating? That may help with some of the 30% emoticon

Hello I am new to this group. I've been a member of SP since 2007 and was pretty consistent with SP up until 2013 when I pretty much had to let go of a lot of things in order to care for my mom until her passing in Dec. 2013. 2013 and 2014 were a blur for me dealing with estate stuff, family stuff and pretty much neglecting myself and any self care. Then in May of 2014, I had to have knee surgery that really put me back. I could no longer compete in triathlon or marathon and pretty much no more running per surgeon's orders. emoticon So for 2015, I dove into yoga and have really come a long way with my practice. I learned to meditate and I continue self care. Some other things I've learned is that having a negative body image is not good for the soul.

This year has been a trying one for me as well because I was recently tested for menopause. I had a partial hysterectomy 6 years ago, so I hadn't had a period for years, so I wasn't sure when I would actually start menopause. Well, this year was the year, hot flashes, mood swings, attitude, sleep patterns way off, weight gain, etc. I went to my Dr to get tested and she said that my hormone levels are falling right on the border of peri-menopause and full blown menopause. She asked me if I wanted to start on HRT and I told her NO! I wanted to try bio-identical hormones and she said she refused to prescribe them. So I went to a friend's Dr and she did not take my insurance. I researched and researched till I found an OTC very similar to the bio-identical stuff, Emerita Pro-Gest. I started this last week. I've seen some improvement in my sleep, about 30% but the other stuff is still there.

Just an update to my intro. emoticon I had the endometrial biopsy yesterday, which I have to say wasn't nearly as crampy as the sonohysterogram, which I'm thankful for. I had a talk with my doctor about what these tests are going to tell me when they are all completed, and she basically said that once we find out the last result, which is the result of this biopsy, we'll have all the answers we need. If it's abnormal and/or shows cancer, then we will treat that...but if it's normal, then we would have ruled out any physical reason why my cycles are so heavy, and that would mean that this is perimenopause and just normal hormone changes that my body is going through.

The results will be back in about a week or so, she said. I'm glad to have the tests behind me.

She and I also talked about what to do if it turns out to just be perimenopause. I told her I have fears about the ways she suggested to decrease the heaviness of my cycles, and she said that my anemia is still there, even with the iron supplement (my blood tests are still abnormal), but she said that as long as I take the iron supplement, I'm not 'dangerously' off from normal ranges, and I could continue like that until menopause if I felt comfortable with that. Otherwise, at any time, I could come back to her and tell her I want to try something else. That sounds like a good plan to me.

Hi! I'm new to the team and to Sparkpeople. So happy to see a team for perimenopause here. Just what I need! :) I'm in my early 40's, and around age 38, I was told by my GYN that I was in perimenopause. There were no tests given or anything like that...she just heard me talk about how I was getting forgetful (forgetting a week's worth of groceries in the car, having to make lists to remember things, and feeling hot and sweaty for no apparent reason while everyone else in the room is cool as a cucumber, etc), and she told me I was in perimenopause.

Now, a few years later, and I'm having heavy monthly cycles that are now making me anemic, even with an OTC iron supplement. My cycles are stretching out from my normal 28 day cycles that I used to have to around 36-40 days, and my new GYN wants to be sure that it's hormonal and not something physically wrong, so yesterday, I had a sonohysterogram where they inflate the uterus with saline solution and then do an ultrasound. This can check for fibroids, polyps, or any other cysts and such. My results were fine...other than the lining of my uterus was too thick and therefore irregular. That could explain my cycles being heavy.

Tomorrow afternoon, I am having an endometrial biopsy to check for any cancer cells or anything else wonky within the lining.

If everything looks fine, she says my options include the Mirena IUD (just for heavy cycle, not for birth control--hubby has a vasectomy), but the breast cancer risk scares me. She also said I could take the mini-pill, but again, the breast cancer risk scares me, as well as any problems with my hypertension that is only borderline controlled right now. I don't need problems there.
She also mentioned ablation, which she said would be done with water flushed through...but when I looked at the risks, one of them was "Fluid Overload", meaning too much fluid getting into the blood supply, and since that was what led to my Dad's death last year (fluid overload from transfusions needed during surgery), my brain instantly screamed, "NO!!!" when I read that.

A D&C I guess would be ok, but that wasn't one of the options she gave me. I'd like to avoid anything involving hormones. I don't know why, but they scare me. I had no problem taking birth control pills, Depo Provera, Nuva Ring and all that stuff when I was younger, but now the risks scare me, no matter how small. I do worry about anesthesia, though, because I tend to inflate like a balloon when they give me an IV in the hospital, which isn't good for my body. I already have edema issues in my lower legs, so I want to avoid problems. Maybe there is a stronger iron pill or something that my doctor could prescribe, rather than using OTC, and I'd just put up with the heavy cycles until I can get my weight down and make anesthesia safer? I guess that's a possibility. I'm 309 right now.

Anyway, that's my story! lol And I'm so happy to have found you all! :)

Howdy all...new to this team and super thankful I found it. I started getting hot flashes one year ago and my moods make me think of how awful it was to go through puberty.

So I am super glad to have this team as a place to be hot and moody...

Welcome Infath! I have not been so good about tracking either. We're in this one together!
What can I say? Perimenopause happens to all of us. If you need to vent, this is the place!

Hi. I am new to the group but not to SP. I love this site but have been a bit lazy with tracking. I really need to do this for me. I fwas diagnosed last year for pre-menopause but now it is in full swing. It happened earlier thaty expected because I had a hysterectomy when I was 26. The doctor saids it would hapen earlier that normal. I must say I HATE IT! Nevermind, I just have to accept it.
