Hi I'm Dede67

I joined Spark people this week, and I'm really impressed with the site and the supportive emails that I have received.

I think I've been dieting since "Moses was a lad", and it finally dawned on me that this isn't working, I need a life style change. At my heaviest I was 19st 4lbs. After a humiliating experience that involved a seat belt extension, and a pencil thin air steward whom I still have dreams about tossing out of the cargo hold- I lost 40lbs. I told myself that I would never reach that weight again. I didn't, but only by the skin of my teeth.

Having recently loss my mum (age 63) to cancer, and watching her as she took her last breath- I thought I'm not going to do this to my child and at this weight this could be me sooner rather than later.

I have shed some weight and took up running. Please understand that I am the world's slowest runner, and people can walk past me, but it was the first time that I have done an exercise and loved it. I have set myself goals with my running- going further and faster etc. That was a first for me. The running inspired me to shed more pounds. This is how I manage to find Sparkpeople. I needed to track my eating, and fitness, and find like minded people to inspire me. I would not usually introduce myself on the web or any message boards- but I'm taking the plunge and making this another first for me.

If I forget to say it later down the line- thanks to all who help to inspire me on shedding the pounds, and getting a life off of my sofa.
