I've been stuggling and felt getting active on the Message Boards might help.

Hello team - I too am finally getting around to introducing myself. I was unsure if I wanted to join another msg board - part of my problem is not "moving" enough and sitting with my laptop doesn't help that. LOL I was a member of WW - did great, made goal Nov. 2008 and mantained until this spring/summer when I let about 15 lbs jump back on. I am here to get back to goal and then stay there!

Welcome Whitney! I know what you mean about doing great this time. This is the first time where I feel constantly reminded that I LOVE how I feel when I exercise all the time. I won't forget it. I'm sticking to it forever this time.

I'm really glad to have you here! This is a really really good class and we are all going to graduate!

Hello everyone! My name is Whitney, I am 21 years old and FINALLY doing it! I have always been chunky since about 10 years old, but since I moved out on my own 3 years ago I blew up! I went from about 160 to 220. Depressing, but slowly Im making my way back down!

I started SP on October 1st (for the 3rd and FINAL time!) and I've lost 12.5lbs! Better than I've done before with no binges, no 'cheating' and tracking and exercising more than ever.

I'm so happy to be part of this team and I want some new buddies to motivate and help out!

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

Linda - Glad to have you finally stopping by! Facing the reality is the hardest part I think, after 1.5 years here and nearly 40 pounds lost, I still will not tell DH or the DD's what my original weight or goal weight is, there is something to be said for shame that makes us stronger on the inside to change the outside! You've come to the right place to find that motivation through your team, other sparkfriends, challenges... the list goes on! As long as we never give up we haven't failed, look at those setbacks as learning tools to tackle your goals even stronger! You can do it!!

Hi my name is Linda and I am finally getting around to introducing myself. I know I need this but so disappointed with me its hard to face the reality of my failure with weight. Back in 2007 I lost over 80 pounds then I went and got very laxed and put most of it back on. SoI'm trying to get motivated once more.

Hi everybody...I joined the team yesterday and since I'm still learning, who knows where I sent my introduction to!

I'm 33, married, no kids, workaholic and have continuously gained weight since I started life with my hubby (from size 7 to 22 in 14 years). I've always struggled with it anyways.

Last year I made a resolution (which worked for about 6 months) enrolled in Curves and eat countless salads. Lost 25 pounds, which I gained back during the holidays.

I'm determined to not allow that again. A great co-worker introduced my to SP and I'm so excited! At least I can see what's wrong with my eating and it certainly makes me exercise.

So here I am again...went from 252 to 236 (two less this morning!)since August 1st. Joined SP 10/10/2009. Slow, but moving.

Now If I could just get a grip during the weekends...

Thanks for listening and hope to join into some of the challenges (though still have a rough time with the water---8 glasses!)

Have a great one!

Hi to all, I have been a member of SP a month almost but this is the 1st time I knew about a team for members who started at the same time, duh!! I am 62, have COPD really bad, need wgt loss badly, and I do love SP so far. I've lost only about 5 lbs but am trying, and continuing to learn. Wish me good luck!

Hi! I am new to Spark People and am just trying to get the hang of it now. I am a home daycare provider, a mother of 3 boys, and a wife of a darling man. I would entertain any help in how to get the ball rolling with Spark People. I used to do Weight watchers so am used to tracking the food and fitness. I have recently had knee surgery and that gets in the way of my fitness from time to time. I hope to get to know many of you.

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself to the message boards since this week's challenge look so interesting!

I am currently working on the couch to 5k program to get myself running, and also trying to do strength training exercises. I've only lost about 3 lbs so far, but I'm excited because it's real weight loss as opposed to 3 lbs of water weight loss. Hoping the boards keep me motivated! :)

I don't think I have formally introduced myself here, but I have been lurking around and reading. There are days when I just want to give up, pull into the Sonic, and order that strawberry milkshake. But I don't, because I know in just five more minutes I'll be home and can borrow willpower from all of you. It makes it easier to know I'm not alone and that people will be excited along with me when I reach my goals. I just wanted to thank everyone. After three weeks I'm down 14 pounds. That's some great motivating!

We all grow into the beautiful person that we're supposed to be. Some earlier, some later.

Hello everyone!
Just found my way to replying to emails via team pages. So first of all thanks to all teammates for their support & good wishes emoticon .
If i didn't keep forgetting how/where i did stuff, I'd be progressing further faster. 2 weeks just sped by, please bear with me as i'm a lil' slow.In part cause of my 2 strokes and residual 1-handed hunt & peck.Suffice to say, I find the ability to set & track self-defined goals a key element in bringing discipline into my life emoticon , especially that directed at my recovery & overall health emoticon .Im focused on persistence/consistency now and am looking forward to putting it all together to achieve my weight loss goal.

Hi everyone! I am a 48 year old stay at home mom of 4 grown children. I am at home with a daughter with disabilities. I gained 70 pounds with my son who is now 19 and still have 50 pounds of that to lose!!! I think it is time!! haha I am tired of carrying around the extra weight and not feeling good about myself! I found this website a couple weeks ago and am still learning my way around it. There is a lot of stuff on here!! I have gotten soooo much encouragement already!

Hi. My name is Jay. I joined out of curiosity after the site was mentioned on Lifehacker. Already in these two weeks I'm already noticing how much more attentive I've been to what I've been eating, as well as to how much exercise I should be getting. I like how food tracking has been made simple, and how a simple strength training program was set up for me.

I took up running two years ago and since then weight loss has been a slow trickle. I've been on a plateau for so long. It's only now that I've done anything about wanting to pinpoint what's going on. I'm hoping to reach my goals, and I hope you all reach yours as well!

Hi everyone. Just a quick hello early in the morning! I am searching Spark and looking for help in getting myself healthy and fit for the second half of my life! I have a 4 year old and an 18 month old and life is busy! Somedays I can't keep up and really want to get in shape for my little girls! Any help is appreciated!

Hi everyone, my name is Sherri and I turned 50 this year. Last year I started working on my weight and was doing pretty good until my mom died from breast cancer and that seemed to throw me for a loop. And things just haven't been going too good since and I have gained back about 30 pounds. I need to get back on the diet and exercise program. I weigh the most I have ever weighed and its not looking too good.

I was on BLC but not doing that great on it and so I thought I would try SP. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting involved.

Hey Amanda, I never posted anything here either. Seems like lots of people have what at least seem to me good reasons for weight gain, me I have no story. Just lazy. But I'm joining a gym, and have been watching what I eat. Its tough when your spouse does not want to participate. T.

Hi! I'm Amanda, hopefully I'm doing this right, I've never posted anything before... Anyway, I might be a little bit late with an introduction, but I'm so overwhelmed with what this site has to offer!

My short term goal is to lose 60 pounds. That's how much my husband, who is in the army, has lost since he's been overseas! But longterm, I need to lose a lot more.. like over 100! So I definitely need some motivation and lots of help. I'm glad I found this site. I'm hoping to meet some people in the same boat as I am. I want to be as healthy as I can be so my husband and I can finally start a family when he gets home :)

I am trying to loose the weight I put on while bed ridden and in a wheel chair. It sure is a lot harder getting it off than it was putting it on.

I am still trying to learn all of the tricks of the site, but so far I am enjoying it and finding that it is more helpful than anything else I have tried.

I LOVE THE MEAL PLANNER!!!!

Hope to get to know you all and be of encouragement to you. emoticon

Wow...there sure are a lot of people here. I am hoping to lose 40 lbs. I have an autoimmune disease that I need to take medication for. The meds have changed my metabolism... not to mention getting older. I am going to be turning 40 in the new year and know I need to drop the weight if I am going to continue running comfortably. (It's not so comfortable now.) Thanks for being here. I'm having a hard time just getting used to everything, so my goal is to practice a little at a time so it becomes a helpful tool that doesn't eat up all of my time.

I live in Wisconsin with my husband and three children: 12, 10 and 6. I teach 5th grade and truly enjoy it. I am working at balancing it all. I am an optimist and LOVE so many things in life...it leads to having a hard time filtering things out. Maybe I can use this site as a metaphor as I search for balance and simplicity with all of these resources available.

One step at a time.

LISAHP - It's never to early to plan... matter of fact the better plan you have and more prepared you are the better your chances of success will be! Last year during the holidays I created a calendar to keep me on track! SP also has a challenge coming up in the Month of November for the Holidays... that would be a great team to join as it will focus on the same concerns that you are having! Here is a link to the SP Challenge Central page... www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/challeng
e.
asp
You will find that all SP Challenges are set up a couple months in advance and you can join them at any time! Without the link you can find Challenge Central by going to the Community tab, spark teams, and there you will see the Challenge Central Box!

Hope that helps a bit!!

Remember everyone... When we fail to plan... we plan to fail!!! Keep making those plans!!

I don't believe it's to early Lisa. I think that knowing it will be a problem and wanting to prepare is a good start. I plan to first, keep water near me at all times, and keep drinking it, as it tends to fill me up... therefor making it less tempting to eat. Also, having a vegetable tray done up first, and handy to munch on and it should help me when I just want to grab things and put them in my mouth. I intend to make things with lower calorie ingredients this year also. Since I make the bulk of things it will help me a great deal. I also think I will 'plan' to eat one serving of my favorite thing without feeling any guilt or dwelling on it. I will record it in my food tracker, and let that day go and know I will be right back on track tomorrow. I don't know if this will help you at all, but I think it will help me not fall to far off my goals.

I'd rather waste it than waist it!

Is it too soon to start worrying or planning about what to do/handle the holidays?? They are always a big downfall of mine and I'd like to be prepared. I don't even care if I don't lose weight, I just don't want to gain!!!! If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful!!!!

hello, i just signed up on saturday. I recently finished a five year grad program and was working while carrying a full course load. Of course, the lack of time to work out and all the sitting lead to a weight gain of 25 pounds over the 5 years. I am now down with school, and recently laid off, so i figure i have been given this time to dedicate to getting back on track!

Hi! My name is Kris and I am ready for a change. I had surgery a little over a week ago and have been out of work since then so I have had some extra time on my hands. My roommate mentioned Spark People so one night when I couldn't sleep I decided to check it out. Even though I am having to take it very easy and my body is not bouncing back as quickly as I have liked, it has been nice to have some extra time to search the website and begin tracking what I eat this week. I have found it very interesting and getting easier and easier to do.
I am so afraid of starting yet again on the road to a healthier me and then getting off track, but I'm so ready for this to work this time. I know that I am the only one who can make it happen. No more excuses! I'm ready to start a healthier life for myself and hopefully encourage others to follow. Let's go folks!

New life....... I have been there and done that, but I just love your attitude. It's hard when friends don't understand how hard it is to even get out of a chair! I hope your daughter is supportive of you and of course you will get alot of it here. As said in previous posts, we're all in the same boat, we know how hard it is, how long the road is, and how lonely it can be off the web. BUT, we also know how great it is to come in here, get support from everyone, meet friends, cry over setbacks and give hands up and praise over even the smallest steps forward. We're here for you, and know you can always holler at me. I'm on line most of the time. Hugs to you, 'Ma'

mafoster11-your post really touched me. I am the heaviest I have ever been. I am recently divorced with a teenage daughter. I let my ex take everything just so I could get out. I am broke, alone and fat but I have my daughter and a good job. I am focusing on fixing what I can. I can fix fat and I can fix broke. It will just take time. After I fix that I figure the alone will take care of itself. I am glad I foung this site because I don't have a great support team. My friends are thin so they just can't relate to my struggle. I am not great on the computer but am figuring it out!!

Hello, I'm known on the net as "Ma". I've been a foster parent for about the last 12 yrs. (retired now) and had so many challenges with different kids coming in that fixing only one meal was an award winning achievement, lol. My husband is very thin and eats circles around me, as does my special needs daughter. I can see neither of them are going to be of any help with 'eating changes' as he sits here and eats candy and such and doesn't think a thing about it. And my daughter...... well all she says is "I want another snack Mom". When I had my first weigh in yesterday and lost 17lbs he said 'cool' and went back to reading his magazine. No support what so ever, but be sure he has said things in the past like....'the woman I married had a body to knock you over' or 'I'm sorry hon, but you exceed the weight limit',etc. So I will be sure to come in here for support. I am finding the thing that is helping most is the water. More and more water. It really fills me up, and in the evening, I'll even add a crystal light or low cal flavor to it. It's a long road ahead, and it will surely be tough. I have lost weight with WW previously, but then thought I was thin so could eat what I want. That was 25 yrs ago. I have been gaining weight for the last 20 and know it's not going to come off quickly, as I do not exercise (maybe when some weight comes off and I can walk a bit better I will do a small amount). I have no desire too, and feel if it's to be a life change I can live with......well I know exercise won't be a part of my 'from now on'. Got to be honest with myself, so may as well be honest with you also.
I look forward to getting to know you all, and have already made a friend....... hopefully many more in the future!

Welcome everyone!!!

I read through the post this morning and saw a few things that I would like to address/suggest.

Many people here at SP use other sites for tracking different things too, but most will tell you that tracking here at SP too is a valuable tool! SP provides many reports for your tracking efforts that give you information for daily and over time periods! You can find these under the reports tab on your start up page...these become almost a necessitiy when you have reached a plateau, and want to see what if anything has changes to make it happen or break the cycle, or just wist to see your nutrition and fitness numbers/progress all in one place! Just a suggestion from personal experience and the experience of others that you take the time to track everything with Spark!

As for exercise... I have said it and will continue to say it... every little bit is progress towards a bigger goal. 10 or 15 minute blocks through the day can be just as effective as a full 30 min block. This is where I said planning is key... plan what you will do the night before, and make it happen!!!If you never take that first step you can't move forward and only YOU is going to get you up and moving and making the changes to see those pounds shed.

Hi - I'm new here. My name is Dena. I'm 33 years old. I found this site through another site about PCOS (Poly-cystic ovary syndrome) which I was just diagnosed with last week. I need to lose weight and get healthy to keep my symptoms in check and to avoid issues in the future. I have a long way to go to my goal - but I want to make this a life change. My husband has Type 1 Diabetes and is so good at watching what he eats all the time. So it will be good for both of us if I eat better too.
