emoticon to SP and to the team! You can do it too! It does take a little of time and practice, but you will get there too!

emoticon to the team! Where in Maine are you? I will be spending a week on Bailey Island in September. Maine is much more runner friendly in the summer than the south (I'm in Texas ), but of course that reverses in the winter.

If you're not having fun, then why run?

You don't get to choose how you're going to die, or when. You can only decide how you're going to live. Now.

Greetings!

Im new to Spark People and just came across this message board. I live in Maine and wish I lived in the South. I started running a little more than a year ago with a couch to 5-K program that was offered free with a program I signed up for at my local gym. I only actually did it because it was FREE. Id tried running before and ended up injured so I was fearful but the gym I belong too is pretty amazing and offered great advice and my coach put me in some great shoes. Funny thing being these great shoes cost $50.00 less than the running shoes I bought for that class; go figure! Sketchers Go-Runs (in case anyone was wondering). Ill be getting a new pair just as soon as the order arrives.

I first heard about this from a friend at the gym who suffers with exercise induced asthma. Ive slacked off and I think its from burn out; while she has run 10 5Ks and next weekend is running in our local Beach to Beacon run 10K. She always says shes slow and struggles with her runs. Yet she is running! I tell her every chance I get how she inspires me. Im going to start running on a regular basis again (more than once a week like I have for the last month) using this method and see if I feel better.

So Ill be lurking around trying to pick up tips and tricks from this group.

Irene
