My 12 April 5k (Run or Dye) got changed, so now I will be doing it on May 3. I was pretty disappointed at first (it was moved to Sept. 20 in that location) but since I switched locations 3 May is only a little further date instead. Since I was training for 12 April I'm just going to switch now that the end date is 3 weeks away from it. Now I have 5 weeks instead of 2 but oh well!

Thanks everyone!
I had read about 5k's being ran through because they are so short, so I'd really like to. Monday starts the 35 min. training run and I'm a little worried that it might be too fast to start doing straight through. I guess that's what's training is for, I can always adjust. I'm doing this with my hubby, and I was telling him about Jeff's Method and how you can adjust and such and that he says in his book that he will even adjust the walk break times from run to run depending on how you feel. So we'll see how it feels on Monday and see if adjustments need to be made. My knees tend to complain sometimes and I've over-trained before with Zumba everyday and learned that cross-training is very important! LOL As well as listening to your body and backing off when you need to. That's probably why Jeff's Method resonated with me so much, it just makes sense.

Hi and welcome to the team!

This is a great team and I can't say enough about how great Jeff's training method is. It has made it possible for me to run even though I have been sedentary my entire life.

Here's looking forward to hearing about your running.

Janet

Welcome to the Galloway team.

Enjoy your 5K - straight or otherwise. BTW... many Galloway runners run 5Ks straight or with very few walk breaks!!!

Hi everyone,
I figure I better introduce myself since I joined the group, but I've been hesitating because I'm currently doing the 5k Your Way training for a 5k on 12 April and didn't want to change training plans mid-training!

One day while out walking with my hubby I thought hmm I wonder if I can jog? And so I did and was able to go for 15-20 min. I got so excited that I started looking into 5k's and training and was thrilled when I was at the level of the highest 5k Your Way!!! Never thought that would be possible for me, I seriously shocked myself! LOL (I owe part of that to Zumba for building up my strength and endurance!) My Dad was a runner and my brother, also my husband, but I never saw myself as able to run. There was always too much pain involved with running for me. We even got rid of our treadmill because I thought I would never run. Though now I've found I much prefer doing it outside anyway. I also found I really enjoy the intervals while doing this training plan and currently I'm at J4 W1 x 8.

While doing research I found out about the Jeff Galloway Method, and it keeps with how I think of exercise as wanting to prevent injury and be able to do it still when I get older, as well as enjoying it. So I got his book on running and am enjoying reading it right now. The science behind it is really interesting! I am planning on doing this next 5k straight through just to see what it's like (though willing to add walk breaks if I need to depending on how it goes in training since next week starts the 35 min. jog), and then switch to Jeff's Method permanently from then on. I know since 5k's are so short it's not as important to have the walk breaks in them as in longer runs, so I figure it will be okay. I've also got a 5k coming up on May 25, but after that I'd like to start training for a 10k and do one in the fall when it cools down again.

I downloaded the Map My Run App recently and I think it's neat how it shows my speed and pace, it's really encouraging to see the improvement! Also I've been adding a few acceleration gliders in my runs for fun and love the endorphins from them!!! LOL I really love how Jeff encourages you to keep running fun and enjoyable and makes it so accessible for anyone! Wish I had known about it sooner I would have started running a long time ago!
