HI Team, Hope I can learn some new running methods from others here that will be helpful in preparing me for the other half marathon coming up in October.

Live simply, expect little, give much. Scatter sunshine, forget self, think of others. Try this for a week and you will be surprised.

Hi 2bacowgirl - you can check for other spark teams to find out who is in your area go to your start page on the right you have the area where you can choose which spark team to go to, pull the pull down or dial menu and rotate the dial to other spark teams this will allow you to search for other spark teams - search illinois and that will bring up spark teams in your area. That would be one way to find out who is in your area. The second way would be to look at the upcoming races topic on this forum and see if there are any race names you recognize in your area.

Hope that helps.

Hi Buckings5
I would just start to increase your long run to finish the half marathon. Since you have completed 8 miles you are not far away from 13.

I personally only got up to 12 miles before my first half. I ended up walking some of it.

You want to make sure you drink plenty of water and take some fuel on your long run i personally use gu gel espresso love flavor. You take one every 45 minutes. Also you want to carry some water on the long runs. I use nathans hydration belt and 4 7 oz bottles that come with it.

I would also try to fit in a 10k run between now and november. You can get everything i mentioned on Amazon.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning All,

So a little about where I am. I've always been a walker until this past March when a friend challenged me to run a 1/2 marathon this coming November. Considering where I started, my training is going OK but not great. I've run 2 5K's, running the first one with no walking and running/walking the second. The longest run/walk I've managed to date is 8 miles and the longest run with no walking is the first 5K I did. Since it's about 4 1/2 months to my 1/2 marathon I decided to look for information and help. I'm a slow runner but not concerned about finish time, my goal is to finish the race.

I am new to this team. I am excited about the Jeff Galloway program. I have been running about 8 months and have done a couple of 5k's. I have a slow pace of about 11:30-12:00 minute mile. I getting ready to start the 10k program and after that I plan on going for the marathon program. I am hoping by following his program I can run further and feel stronger. I would be very interested to hear from anyone that has completed any of his programs. The idea of running/walking instead of just running seems alien to me but I am going to give it a try. Also I would love to know if anyone else is from the Southern Illinois area.
