Thanks, THR and Dad! Good advice, Dad. I often get ahead of myself--I'm working on learning to live in the moment.

Hey Tom,
Welcome aboard. I have also been using Wii as a tool for maintaining my weight. Don't be discouraged by current exercise limitations. When I began 4.5 years ago, I could do about 10 minutes on the treadmill at 2.5mph max.
Now I can literally walk for hours at 3.5 - 4mph. The only thing that stops me is the tedium.
Stay focused on what you are doing today and tomorrow will take care of itself.

emoticon Hey Tom! Sounds like you have a plan to me. One of the biggest things that will help is to figure out your daily calorie intake to reduce weight. Doing a little walking and all of those non-knee bearing exercises will be great. One day at time.

Tom, I started with my long term goal of losing 200 lbs. That sounded insurmountable so I started setting smaller goals of losing 5% of my body weight. At 387, 19 lbs seems more doable than 200. And that was my start. 120 lbs later I have stuck with this for a 1 1/2 which is the longest I have stuck with it, and I plan to see the 200 lbs gone permanently. You can do it as well. I know all about the knee problems, but there are a meriad of other exercises that you can do that don't require the knees or are more knee friendly. Start with committing to doing 10 minutes a day, and work up from there. It worked for me, and could work for you as well. Little changes lead to big successes!

Well, TXHRT4U, that's one heck of a great question! The answer is, quite honestly, no, I don't really have a long-term plan right now. Honestly, I'm a bit gun-shy about committing to a long-term plan, just because I've never been able to stick to one before. So right now, my only plan is to eat more cleanly, stop the incessant snacking, and begin to exercise regularly. I'm using the WALK IT OUT game on my Wii right now for cardio. It really isn't very arduous, but my knees are getting touchy, so I'm taking it easy for now, until I get some weight down, then I can increase the intensity either by using my elliptical, walking outdoors, riding my bike, etc. I'm also doing some basic upper body strength training using bands and dumbells. I figure I've got enough to keep me going for a couple of months, and then I re-evaluate based on where I am. Hope that makes some sense. The good news is that today is the second day that I've eaten cleanly and done some exercise, so I'm happy!

Hope that makes sense. I'd love to hear your comments.

Thanks for the replies, Bob and Paul. While I enjoy Co-ed groups, it's nice to be in a men only group as well. I'll take y'all up on the offers of help, never fear!

Hello, Gentlemen,

My name is Tom, and I'm a brand-new Sparks Person living in the Dessert north of Los Angeles. I have about 137 (but who's counting) pounds to lose, and look forward to spending some of the time in my journey to better health and fitness alongside you all!

Not sure what else to put here, so I'll leave it open? Any questions, please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to give you an honest answer (even if that answer has to be "you don't have the need to know" emoticon )

I do have a blog up, and plan on checking in regularly, so please feel free to visit, comment, chat, or whatever.

That's about it for now. You all have a wonderful evening!
