"Portion Distortionist" is blog-worthy to be sure. I'll cite my sources for the ladies (who, for whatever psychologically damaged reason, attach themselves onto my every word) if you like; just let me know either way.

Well said John.

Just changing the physical without making mental changes yields incomplete results.

I think the team was a help to me because I had made the decision that I would be active physically as well as on the team board. I posted and commented when appropriate and somehow received encouragement in my own journey by 'being with' others on their journey.

In 2007 Sparkpeople was over 5 years old, but really hitting on the mainstream radar with Today show appearances and the such. I had happened to stumble across it when I was 'Googling' an exercise to look for form. Sparkpeople came up and I joined. For the first two weeks I didn't understand the teams and I think I was just posting on the general message boards...mostly women....whom I like, but when I stumbled across the MYNA team...that helped.

The logging of food helped me see that it wasn't that I was eating unhealthy food, I was just OVER-portioning it all. A master portion-distortionist I was! I didn't find the exercise tracker as helpful because I was basically doing the Body for Life workout program (minus the myoplex and creatine) for my strength training. The logging of the exercises, however, made me visit the site and participate. As I mentioned elsewhere I was then in a job where things were VERY slow and I sat at a computer. PERFECT! Now it's a little harder to find time, but I have decided that in order to be successful this time...six years later I need to organize my time better.

A lot of rambling...and maybe it isn't that the team that was the motivator, but myself. The team was just a sounding board and somewhat an way of holding myself accountable. I will probably never meet you guys, and I don't think that being concerned about our weight or looks is 'weird', I just don't mind talking about life...and this is part of it.

As cliche as it may sound, the birth of my son and a very bad cholesterol reading sparked me into this...six years and one more child later I am realizing that I made a physical change the first time, but not the mental change that has to happen...and that takes time. I've got nothing but time until I'm dead....so....I'm going to do this.

There are many active teams, guys.... you just have to find them.
Like.... if you need some extra motivation I'd recommend you to join one of the "Biggest Loser Challenge" teams, they're probably the most actives ones on this site....
Some friendly competition is always good... :)
It really is fun, and there are other guys there so you won't be alone lol

The next round is about to start, here's the link in case you want to register:

I would be most interested in knowing the specifics of just how the team benefited you. See my earlier comment about teams. What am I missing? Many thanks.

Well, well, well...some life!?!?

I hate to say it, but I was most active on this team when I was employed by 'the man' and thus sat at a computer all day....doing 'work'. Now self employed I don't have that 'luxury' anymore. I I do believe that being active on the team, as well as logging ALL of my food intake, was the key...and will be the key again. So right now, at work, I am trying to be good about spending some time on the SP site logging my food and morning exercise. Keep my fingers on the keyboard and off food is good. Did I mention that 100+ pounds of homemade fudge and sixteen 3-gallon tubs of ice cream are within 12 feet of me right now?!?!?!

I wasn't getting the whole SP when I started in 2007 until I found this team, so I shall do my best to participate.

I blog about losing weight (or not) all the damn time. And yes, as a consequence, 96% of my Spark friends are female. (Perhaps that reflects Spark as a whole).

They are more likely to talk about how many thousand pounds they can press 324 times in an afternoon.

I'm not too much into that body building, but do feel better when my weight is down, so I do talk about diet and weight loss. Here and in other contexts.

MZUNGUTEMBO, You've not been here. that's why the site has been quiet.

I'm sticking with my plans and not too far out of line. Getting good coaching from my chiropractor and his office.

After about 16 months here, it has become my perspective that the team pages just do not work all that well. Spark has a lot to offer and I still find success and motivation on the web site overall, just not so much in the teams. I'd be happy to be proven wrong - and welcome back.

I was surprised to see such a 'dead' team page. Hopefully it is because everyone is out exercising and shopping for good, clean foods! This team played a big role in my success in 2007. I know things have changed, people move on and life happens....it did to me!

So I am back. Decided last night to put my Crossfit life on hold to focus on shedding weight. This site, and a different type of strength training and cardio are the only way that I know I can achieve what it is I want. What I want is to be around the weight that you see on my SparkPage. That baby, by the way, is now six.
