Meat (eggs, ham, etc), nuts, and a piece of fruit, and drink some water.

A half cup of oatmeal with an apple or pear provides me with plenty of energy for my morning workouts. . . .

I try to eat at least 45 minutes before my workouts.

Maybe vary your training routine as/when/how you can. Swap one of the moderate sessions for a high intensity one. Try an exercise set you don't normally do. Put in a longer session on the weekend. Take a week off and do no workouts at all. If you want the metabolism to release the prisoners you need to shake the bars a bit :-)

I agree with the hydration suggestion. I just read that you can lose 15% of your energy if you are just 3% lacking in hydration.

I generally eat a banana just prior to my cardio, because I too hit a wall part way through. Just don't eat a lot (you already know why from experience), and realize that it will take a bit of time for the fruit's carbs to come on full force. My workouts are usually about 90 mins, first thing after waking up fo me, and if I have the fruit, and drink TONS of water (you'll sweat it off likely), it keeps me going and I'm not too cross-eyed when I'm done. Don't ask me to form a sentence right after a work out though!

While I love coffee, I always save it until after my workout. It just never has worked for me to have that in my system too soon before cardio.

You never regret the workouts that you do. You regret the workouts that you DON'T do.

If I can do it, YOU can do it!

I'm investing sweat equity into... me

One thing that was suggested, and seems to work is a spoon of psyllium in a glass of water. Not only does it help with the digestion, but as it absorbs the water, it will make you feel like you have had something.

when actually do eat, you'll eat less because you are feeling full sooner, and prior to that, you are conditioning your mind to believe you can function at a certain level of "fullness". To some extent, I think it is mental conditioning that has put a wall up for you, and would recommend an approach that 'redefines' where the wall actually is.

Life is the future, not the past.

More fruit. It's easily digested and won't 'weigh you down'.

I am thinking not hydrating enough, are you drink a glass of water before and a glass during your work out. try a glass of juice before running.

I'll have to look at them..I don't eat refined carbs (flour & sugar) at all and I haven't found too many bars that don't have one or the other...
Thanks...

My nutritionist suggested adding a Kashi protein bar prior to my workouts (in addition to a small piece of fruit).

Hey men!!!
So this is my morning:
Wake bright and early - usually between 4:30 - 5:00.
Have 2 cups of coffee before my daughter gets up.
Take her to the school bus at 7:00.
Do 30 minutes on the treadmill at a moderate pace.

So here's where I need advice. If I have breakfast before the bus run, I cramp up on the treadmill. If I don't eat before the treadmill, I hit a wall about halfway through. Today I tried just having an apple before the treadmill but it wasn't enough. I'm looking for [food] suggestions that will easily mesh with my morning routine. Treadmill before the bus is out of the question! emoticon

Thanks.
