I've been on third shift for fifteen years and have yet to develop a discipline that gives me much more than five hours between shifts and then I end up sleeping all the time on my days off.

Maybe that's why it is so difficult for me to loose weight. In an average day I sleep 3 (4 if I am lucky) hours.

i work a rotating shift but all are 12 hours from 7a-7p or 7p-7a. the worst part is working 72 hours in 7 days. When i get into the crappy middle part of the work cycle, i just try to do something. we dont get scheduled breaks, so i can go "walk at lunch". but i can take the long way to the bathroom, do extra checks of my machine that require going up 17 steps, and doing a little something when i get home or before i go in. I have found that sleep really does play a vital role in weight loss. If you dont sleep, you dont lose weight.

I guess you'd call mine double shifts that swing, as I usually put in at least a 13 hour day (15 if you count the commute time) and what starts out as 7am on Monday can wind up being 2pm on Friday.

Sometimes I feel like (and literally do) just work, sleep, and go back to work. Sometimes I workout with a jump rope during lunch, I've been known to throw in some situps or pushups when there's a 10 minute gap of inactivity. It's a pain to stay motivated, and I fail at it often, so it's just a matter of looking for the next opportunity.

thanks for the input guys. just to keep myself motivated, i also try to set goals for what i am going to do once i get off of the 7 day night shift, that way i stay focused on at least getting off of it and what i am going to accomplish for the next block of time before i go back to nights again.

HI1

I do not have rotating shifts, but I do work two full time jobs what I believe ends up giving the same effect. It is very hard for me to stay motivated, specially during this cold weather. I try, but it is not easy....

thanks, thats what i am trying to do once i get adjusted, that seems to be an "awake" time for me. i rotate from days to afternoons to nights and am never on one shift for more than 7 days. i just cant stand sitting on the sidelines for 7 days until night shift over.

I work 3rd shift. I tend to workout around 3 or 4 pm before I go into work.

I work third shift and I don't, but I do the best I can. Sometimes it's good and sometimes not so good. The most important thing is a regular schedule with plenty of sleep, but good luck with that. Try to be consistent in everything you do and you'll do as well as anyone. Good luck with it, it's a challenge... I've been on third shift for fifteen years and still not used to it.
