I'm from Tennessee. I just started back walking in July. I signed up for the Nashville color run in Oct. I've always wanted to be a runner! I've started adding intervals but am having problems keeping my breathing under control. I'm up to walking 3 miles a day 5 days a week. Hoping I can work up to run at least half of the 5k in Oct.

I just recently found out about virtual racing and love the convenience of it.

Hello fellow walkers and runners! I am excited to be a part of this team. It seems to be upbeat and positive.

I started running in March, at age 52, as a result of a challenge on Jillian Michaels, and I have not stopped. I worked up to running 20-25 miles a week, walking another 5 to 10 miles, in addition to HIIT Circuit training, jump roping (my favorite calorie burn) and swimming.

I have reached my 30 lb goal weight loss that I began in January, and I am seeking to maintain now.

I try to exercise at High Intensity at least 4X/week to nourish and exercise my brain as well as my body! I am a fulltime caregiving to my mother with ALZ, and it is no place to be in the sunset of your life.

I put many of my walking miles in at my 8 year old DD many activities. I always carry my jump rope to the soccer field! My 17 YO son keeps me in a high stress mode. I am running for my life (stress reduction)!

I have signed up for my TransAmerica run/walk.

Newbie here. Tired of this weight. Have to go to a funeral this weekend and my main concern is that I'm going to be fat in front of my relatives. Add to the sight of a woman at the church I play for (she was a guest) who could barely walk, stand, etc. She was a sign of my future. TIRED OF THIS WEIGHT!! Let's get it off!!

I, too, joined this team due to BROOKLYNBORN's blog. But, I wish I had known about it when I started my 43 day 10K step streak. I'm now sidelined with a minor ankle sprain, which ended my streak - bummer!

I'll just have to move at a slower pace while the ankle recovers.

Maintenance is as much work as losing, but it has the advantage of allowing us to do it in cuter clothes - BESSHAILE

What's that app called that you got? NYUCHICK2013 - is it free? I looked, and on my Play Store (I have a Cricket Android) all I can find is one's you have to pay for, or C25K, Run a 5K, 10K Trainer Free, and then I found Abs Trainer Free, Pushups Trainer Free (downloading both of those for SURE!), but I can't find Easy 5K - I want to get a training app but I don't like using ones that don't work well, I had Charity Miles for a while but it never saved my info so I uninstalled it.

I joined Spark People to give me the last push towards my goals.

I have an Easy 5K app with an 8 week plan I've been doing and will be doing a virtual 5K when I'm done.

After that I'm going to do it all over again to improve my time. I'm hoping eventually I'll be able to move from a walk/run to just running.

I started yesterday training for the SP 5K virtual. I have seen this "walk across america" team, and actually have a walk started on the exercise.lbl.gov site. But walking clear across America seems such an impossible task, kind of like loosing 100 pounds.

So my first goal is 30 miles by the time I get to the 5K. That will put me in Glendale, VA. I'm very excited because I've never been there! emoticon

Welcome Jenn! Absolutely, you can use your elliptical to track miles! The elliptical is my main form of exercise. I also track miles from my Leslie Sansone dvds. In my opinion, any exercise that you can track miles with counts.

Hi I'm Jen emoticon I joined the walk across America thing. I'm 56. Just started walking as an exercise. I'm sorta still new to Spark.
I was losing weight but since I started walking, I've gained, probably the dreaded water thing.

On days when it's raining or too hot can I use my elliptical to track my miles for this challenge?

I think life is not so much about waiting for the storms to be over, as much as it is, learning how to dance in the rain.

Thanks for the welcome goodies, I am in the UK and very much looking forward to my virtual trek. I'm still in VA as I only got a short walk in today but have a few days off work now so hoping to make some progress.

I've hung in for nearly a month now so maybe it's time to introduce myself. I've been on SP since 2009 but was a hermit until Sept 2012 as I approached my 3rd anniversary of maintenance. I want to stay there and support helps.
My goal now is to increase my distance running/walking and this team is giving me the motivation to do just that. Thanks to SuzyMobile for telling me about it.

Hello everyone,

Since I joined this team, I walked 2 miles yesterday! It was indoors at the mall around 4:00 pm. I was surprised to still fight the crowd of shoppers. I was able to do it in 30 minutes and my knees did not bother me last night. That is a good start for me.

My goal is to walk 2 miles at least 3x a week.

Today I completed 60 minutes of a new Wii exercise for weight lose. It consisted of crunches, jogging, pushups, stretches, and a few other activities. It is so much fun to listen to the instructor and be able to talk back to them.

Take care and hopefully I can get on the virtual map.

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to SP and will be starting full time tomorrow. I want to lose some weight and to strengthen my body. I'm looking forwarding to being able to go up a flight of stairs without discomfort. The Virtual Walk sounds like a lot of fun.
