Courtney,
It sounds like you found the right place to come home to. I am really sorry that the Lap band didn't meet your expectations.....but sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise. Everyone's body reacts differently to surgeries that they have and I think you made the right decision especially after two slips. So unnecessary to put you under for surgery each time. That can be dangerous in itself.
I want to tell you, personally, that we are HAPPY to have you on our team! I am here to help you just as much as the rest of the team. There is a wealth of information on www.oa.org. Especially about meetings that will fit YOUR lifestyle....take care and I hope to chat with you soon!

Janine

Welcome to the Team!

It sounds like you have had a difficult journey. I wish you well in OA, and hope your Higher Power, your sponsor, and your phone meetings will be able to guide you along your 12-Step journey!

What if we woke up tomorrow with only those things that we thanked God for today?

Like many, I've tried nearly every diet program or plan. Some worked but typically only for a short period of time. I got the Lap Band in May, 2011. The band slipped at the end of 2012 which required surgical release, six weeks of recovery, and surgical reattachment. At the end of 2014, my band slipped again. Surgery would be required again. Rather than releasing and reattaching the band with the risk of it slipping again, I asked to have the band removed completely. I started to panic because I viewed the band as a tool to help me maintain control over my eating but now my tool is gone. I don't want to gain back the weight I lost but also really want to reach my ideal weight. This brings me to finally realizing that I have a problem with compulsive eating and/or overeating. I know how to make healthy food choices and I go to the gym every morning before work. But, I still experience what I thought was just self sabotage. I didn't realize that I was powerless over compulsive eating/overeating. I do have a sponsor and we are working through step four. Unfortunately there are no close face to face meetings available near me. I'm trying to attend phone meetings several times per week. I'm hoping that being part of this group will help keep me focused on the process of recovery.
Thanks!
