I agree CJ! I am so glad that we can apply it to really any compulsions we have.

Welcome to the Team!

I know what you mean about translating from AA. What I like about joining OA when I did, is that we have some great OA literature now. I can imagine it was very tricky when it was just starting out, and all they had was AA stuff!

What if we woke up tomorrow with only those things that we thanked God for today?

So glad that you are with our team!! Keep me posted on how you like the meetings. I prefer online meeting myself, although, I had a nice face to face group too!

I had posted a reply to the sticky, and then realized today that it makes more sense to start a thread in case anyone tries to look up my story later or something (as if people do that...but whatever!)

Yo! I'm 30, from the Midwest, mom to a 7 y.o. girl, training to be a Spec. Ed. teacher, and I've been dealing with a disordered relationship with food and my body for over half of my life. I've taken a few different starts on the path to recovery, and most were missing either a focus on the emotional/spiritual or on the community/accountability. OA has all of that, and while there are things I don't like about it (some of the language, and always having to translate from AA, etc.) I'm hoping I can make the program work for me. I have a few friends going to meetings with me, too, so hopefully that will keep me coming back! Haven't made my plan of eating yet, or my action plan, or really cracked down on the steps or whatnot yet, just reading, trying to journal & pray/meditate, and discern what abstinence means for me.
