Happy 2016 to everyone!!! I live in Tempe and have been on SP since 2007. As the years tick by it becomes a little hard to maintain a healthy weight and fitness. I am really motivated to stick to my diet/fitness plan and would appreciate any advice/encouragement to stay on track.

Hi Sandy, welcome to the team. One of the biggest problems I think people face when trying to get to a healthy weight is trying to change too much at once. You are tying to change habits that you spent years learning so unlearning can't be done overnight. I would focus on one area that you know is a problem, work at that and then when you feel you have really changed that habit to a healthy one move on. One of my biggest problems is snacking after work. I have been working at that one for awhile and I have really come a long way toward healthy eating for an after work snack instead of eating something that is quick and maybe not so good. First I had to make sure that I had plenty of healthy eats, then I had to make myself choose those instead of potato chips or the like. I also had to quit buying the chips and things. I usually eat a pretty small, healthy snack after work now, if I eat anything at all. I am now working on portion size. I am trying to measure my food so that I know I am eating the correct portion.

Hey, I'm Sandy and I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm a psychiatric RN at the VA, and I find that even though I'm trying to keep the weight off, I've gained 40 pounds over the past few years! I'm trying sparkpeople again, though I'm not doing well when I'm in control of the food. I'm thinking of weight watchers as well, but I can't always make the meetings due to my RN schedule. We'll see. Hope to talk to others soon.
