We went trout fishing, today. We opted for the inflatable raft. Bad, idea, we hadn't blown it up in years. We tried to launch it, without blowing up the under side. Next, our mobility (me with 8" of rods in my back and SIRJON like a turtle flipped on it's back. We crawled and scootched, to get in and worse getting out. It was so bad, a young woman came up and offered me help. This is really sad, because I use to be so nimble and flexible. I wrote a blog about being what you eat and much to disbelief, I did not eat a manatee.

Anyway, on to the fishing. We did catch some small keepers, which we threw back and some so small we really, really threw them back.

But, it was a beautiful small quiet lake (rowing only), surrounded by tall forest and a beautiful view of Mt. Hood (which looks like Mt. Fuji in Japan).

All in all a great time--PJ

Did you know that there are fish so big that there are battery operated reels to reel them in. I thought that was part of the sport. There are some fish so big they kill them with a baseball bat or shoot them, after reeling them in.

Now, I have never caught anything that big. My biggest was a 23" trout and I had assistance.

We had a friend catch a swordfish and have it stuffed and mounted. What made him mad was, he didn't get his own beak. They had him grab one at random from the beek box. emoticon PJ

When I was a kid (9), my family went camping for the first time. My dad had a regular size utility trailer with 4' side boards. We looked like we were moving. Our load included 2 inter-spring mattresses, a chest of drawers, a full size table for food prep, full kitchen accessories, bedding and a tent.

Of course, people looked at us, as if we were crazy, but you have to remember my family was from San Francisco. I'm sure my parents thought we were really roughing it.--PJ

I grew up in the woods in Oregon. Our driveway was a deer trail. We had wolves, bears, coyotes, porcipines, cougars and other assorted small wild animals. One day when a group of us little kids were playing in the irrigation ditch, we heard a lot of splashing around the bend. Upon discovering a bear cub playing in the ditch, I don't know who ran away fastest.

Hi P.J.,

I loved your fishing story. What a clever girl you are!!!

Here's one for you. We lived on our boat. One day we went out with some friends fishing. As I was standing on the bow, I felt this tremendous tug on my line. It felt like Jaws was on the other end. After about 5 minutes, my catch rose to the surface. It was a lobster pot with two beautiful lobsters in it. I am embarrassed to say that my friend and I dined on fine lobster for our lunch. I was bad, but the lobster was GOOD! In my 65 years, it was my only felony.

Hugs,
Penny emoticon emoticon

I don't remember this happening, but my girl friend still laughs about it. We 4 had fished all day and caught nothing. We were staying in a cabin at an old fish camp. The next cabin had caught all of our fish and his too. I went over to praise his fish and my story of woe.

I came back with 8 big cleaned fish for dinner. I was really cute in those days.

When SIRJON and I got married as now, money was really tight. We spent $3 for bait in a plastic bag and went to a jetty to fish.Another fisherman came and stood by me. A wave hit the bait bag and washed it away from the levy. I was in horror, there went our $3. SIRJON said no problem, one cast with a bare hook and he reeled it back in. The other fisherman and I, stood in shock.

SIRJON loves the story, he made us proud.

I think we need some animal encounter stories. I didn't experience this myself, but when we moved to a forested area,a bear cub came to a local events bar-b-cue. It got chased up a tree and tranquilized. Problem was, they had to send a fireman up the tree to carry the cub down. That was a real fireman's carry. emoticon PJ

IT'S FUN FISHING WHEN YOU'RE A FEMALE. MEN THINK YOU'RE CUTE AND DON'T KNOW ANYTHING.

ONCE (NON-BOAT) I WANTED TO FISH A BIG ROCK THAT A BUNCH OF GUYS WERE ON. THEY MADE ROOM FOR ME AND GAVE ME A LOOK OF, ISN'T THAT CUTE SHE THINKS SHE'S GOING TO CATCH A FISH. I HAD FISHED THE ROCK BEFORE AND KNEW HOW TO LET IT DRIFT INTO A DEEP HOLE. THE LIMIT WAS 5, 5 CASTS - 5 FISH AND I SAID, "THANK YOU, BOYS". TRUE STORY.

When I was younger, my siblings and I would take some string and tie it to a stick. We then would take the tabs off of soda cans (back in the day) and use that as a hook.

As for me? I am in my *ahem* late 30's and I still haven't caught any unless you count the seafood counter at the local supermarket emoticon

Last weekend we all we to our state park .

Killer, our dog got a his first chance to see some fish when this nice showed us what he catch in a net. Killer went nuts watching the fish flip flop around in the net. Because of this the guy through his net into the water.

Lucky for us killer hates water and every time he would step into the water to try to get the net he would jump back.

Just when we thought we were fine with killer the guy caught a fish.

Just when the guy got the fish on his line out of the water killer went nuts! This poor guy was trying to wheel in his fish with killer trying to catch it. We all were yelling at killer to not catch the fish. Just when killer was about to get this fish the guy grabbed it.

To think my parents wanted to bring killer with them when they went fishing ~ Not!

One step at a time!

Kimberly

WE WERE FISHING WITH OUR 14 YR. OLD SON TOWING DRY FLIES. A GUY ON THE BANK TOLD MY SON, "YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ANYTHING WITH THAT". A FEW MIN. LATER, MY SON ROWED BY HIM AND HELD UP HIS 20" TROUT.

A VERY HAPPY 14 YR. OLD!! emoticon PJ

I live in South Florida, near the greater Ft Lauderdale area. Well really about 20 miles from the coast, the coast of Pompano Beach / Light House Point / Deerfield Hilsboro area for any of you who have been down here enough to know.

As far as tackle and equipment, never owned it nor shopped for it personally. Cant really claim to eat right out of the ocean either. I have been deep sea fishing before but that wasnt so much as to fish as it was to just escape, visit with friends, water ski under the sun all day... and maybe watch a giant marlin drag a drunken braggart right off the boat. LOL
