I do all my food and exercise tracking on the website, so that part is easy. It's just the act of tracking that I hate. However, it does make me more aware of exactly what goes into my mouth, and I know that is a good thing. Just wish I didn't HAVE to track at all...boo hoo. Ahh, to be 20 again and able to eat ANYTHING!

LPOLEARY59- That's great you are getting in shape for your surgery but I'm sorry that you have to have surgery! I don't have a smart enough phone to track food on my phone, but if you have a smart phone that might make it easier for you to get the sparkpeople app.
I find tracking food easier using the Sparkpeople website vs writing it down.

Keep up the good work exercising!

Thanks for the pep talk. I already do some of these: circuit training 2x week, water aerobics 2x week. Alcohol is not an issue, but sugar and fat are decidedly harder. It's the tracking that I hate...I do it, but it annoys me to have to. I will keep at it, though. I didn't gain it all at once, I won't lose it all at once. Thanks again.

Hello and welcome! I started a diet and exercise program exactly 6 months ago today, and have lost 47 lbs. so far. What helped me was eating regular meals at the table only (NO snacking or eating while reading, watching TV, or lying on the couch), restricting myself to 1,500 calories/day and writing down EVERYTHING I ate, reducing fat and eliminating sugar and alcohol, and getting enough exercise. My workouts started out rather light; 30 minutes total, including about 3-minutes apiece on the stairmaster and exercise bike as well as some weight lifting, but I added a minute to each activity and increased the weight/number of reps every week. I'm up to 2 hours now, between cardio and strength training. I don't work out every day -- maybe 3x/week, and ride 2-3 days/week. I've been pretty strict with myself because "cheat days" and other indulgences simply do NOT work for me -- it HAS to be all or nothing. I am also lucky because everyone at home and work has been very supportive, so I in turn feel more accountable for staying on track. I've had a few slip-ups, but I've been able to pick myself up and get going again. So hang in there; you can do it!

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Hi, I've been peri-menopausal for 13 years now. Doc and I finally decided it was time for a hysterectomy. I am going to try to lose some before then, and strengthen the core muscles before surgery. Weigh 155, should be >120 [only 4'11"], but don't expect I'll make it. Would be very happy with 125. Hints for helping lose?
