Susan and Karen...nice to meet you both. I'm an RN, too, but retired several years ago (I'm older by far...LOL). Seriously, my graduating class had it's 50th reunion a year ago this summer. I don't envy either of you working still, and for sure not 12 hour shifts. Getting some of these pounds off (I know...easy to say, hard to do) will help for sure.

Linda is right...we can do it together! We've all had issues of one kind or another. After all, when you get to our age, we've lived a lot of life already and a lot of life usually includes a lot of challenges.

I've been down and had regains, too. Hate that I did that. But finally, I'm feeling stronger and think I'm making some progress now, but always in the back of my mind I have that tiny niggle of doubt in my mind. I'm trying not to second guess myself and to have the confidence I know that it takes to be successful. I need all the help I can get, ladies!!

Don't know if any of you have ever watched the Red Green Show on PBS, but he always says to keep your puck on the ice...we're all in this together! (I've never known for sure what the two things have to do with one another, but sounds good to me!! Hugs to all, Jeannie

Karen, I seem to gain 60 pounds after every bad injury. 2 broken feet at the same time, broken hip and now I got sciatica and have gained 20 lbs. I lose a little then I gain it back. I must get a job again and cannot imagine trying to work even 4 hrs a day now. Maybe we can lose together. Hang in there

I am Karen from British Columbia. I will be 60 in May. I need SERIOUS HELP. Two years ago i lost 130 pounds in order to have some orthopedic surgeries. I was able to get fit during this time as that was my only goal ( i was off on disbility) An unexpected open heart surgery and returning back to work after 4.5 years on disability derailed me and i gained it all back. MUST get back on track or i will die. I work as a RN in a busy emergency department. Shift work is hard and i run full tilt for 12 hours. Pretty much exhausted after my 4 shifts (2 d, 2 n). I need to find a way to overcome depression and get moving and eating better

I appreciate the welcome.
Glad to meet my nursing colleagues. Have to admit I am getting burnt out though. It will be 40 years as an RN this June and 45 years working in health care.

Blessings, Susan

Hi Betty,
My name is Allie from Gaston,S.C. I saw your post and am glad you joined Spark. This is the best bunch of positive people ever and would love to keep up with you.
I have tons of health issues as well and just started tracking again today after not tracking for 3 weeks I have gained back 11 lbs. Grr so I am back on the Spark train and this journey is so much easier with positive reinforcement from everyone here.
I am not sure how to add you and Iowagramma to my friends list but hope to figure it out soon!

Hello, Carole, Susan and Pam. Welcome to all of you!! Carole, I was pretty sure you'd been with us before. Glad you found your way back to us. Susan and Pam, that's what happens to us...even if we go away for awhile, we seem to find our way back here. Susan, I'm a retired RN, too, and we have another new member who is an RN, too. You'd think we'd know all about taking these pounds off and keeping them off, but I guess it just goes to show that we are human, too, right? Knowing and doing are definitely two different things for me.

Almost all of us have some kind of health issue besides obesity (I've always hated that word, but it is my biggest problem). Mobility, diabetes, heart...you name it, somebody has it. I know that many of mine would be resolved once I take the pounds off.

I am recommitting myself and planning on making the best of the rest of 2016. Won't you all join me? Please? I need your support and I'm sure you all could use some, too!! Looking forward to getting to know you much better!! Hugs, Jeannie emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

My name is Susan and I have been on and off SP for several years.
I am an RN and I know what to do to lose wt but I am not disciplined to do so. A sugar addict who needs to give it up.
I have two grown sons, a daughter in law and two cats. Been divorced for nearly 8 years.
As I nurse, I have taken care of everyone but myself. Put myself last and then have a pity party with lots of goodies.

I like to read, crochet and exercise in the water. Just had a knee replacement and love being pain free. Had horrible arthritic pain for two years and used that as my reason to not exercise. No excuses now...

I introduced myself in the main Daily Chat thread so I will try to keep this brief. I am 62 1/2, I am on disability so besides having limited mobility I also don't have access to my own car (hubby uses our main working one for work-he is 5 years younger) so I too am 'home alone' during the work week. I returned to SP after a two year absence. I credit a former team leader in making sure we got to know this site. My 'suggestion' would be to open the page on the Start session and then click on the My Trackers for the drop down list. If you click on the Articles & Videos the drop down list includes lots of good stuff. Finally, the Community drop down list brings up things like creating your own SparkPage or joining a Challenge or a Team like this. If you have any technical questions (which I have and used a bit) click on the Help near your username on top right corner. I have found help with how to create and post a recipe as well as how to Add Friends. What you can't find on your own please ask me or someone else and we will help you with your question. You are NOT alone. We are here and we can help you. Just ask!

Hi, Betty. I think you've come to the right place for support and help to make positive changes! Don't worry about doing everything at once...pick one or two things to work on...doing a smaller amount at a time will help to keep you from getting too overwhelmed. You mentioned Virginia. I don't know where Callaway is located, but we have several other VA team members. Drop by the chat thread soon and get acquainted with some of our other teammates. Let us know how/if we can help in any way!! Good luck to you and remember...do your best and things will begin to fall into place!! Hi! My name is Betty, this is my first day. I have many medical problems partly caused by my weight. I have COPD, disintegrating joints, which means 2 new knees, toe joint, and a new hip. Monday Dr. will tell if I need the other hip replace hope not. I have gained 145 lbs in less than 7 years going through replacemets. I have no support at home so I am glad I found this site. Hope I can support others and be supported. I live in Callaway VA (9 year) and most of the people around hear don't like outsider's. I lived in NJ for 53 years, have 3 daughter and 3 grandchildren living their. So all I do is quilt, watch TV and my 2 day out is going to church, food shopping or doctor. I know if I stay with Spark people, and have Gods help I can do it.

Hi, Linde004! Glad to have you with us. I hope you have found some of the inspiring stories here on SP about people who have lost significant amounts of weight AND kept it off. I'm thinking about TUBLADY, for one. Check out her page. It can be done, but not without a lot of hard work. Lois is right...that's the way we have to do it!! Wishing you well!

And, thanks, Lois, for reminding me, too!! emoticon

Welcome to all the new members...
Sad to say, the older we get, the harder it is, as our metabolism slows....
It sure is harder for me now than just 10 years ago (and now 75)
So, like I said years ago, moving is great and helps us get stronger, but until we get a grip on what goes in our mouth, we will never win this weight war....
Track the calories, cut back on sugar (a trigger to eat more) and enjoy every bite and every pound lost!!

Good morning! I'm new here. . . . . . . trying yet one more time to pull my health together as I approach retirement. There is so much I want to do and I know that I will not be able to if I do not get my weight/health under control. I have tried and failed so many times. Actual success rate for all people with 100+ to lose is so dismal. How do you all keep motivated in the face of the poor likelihood of success??

Keep moving,

Linde

Hello, everyone!! Welcome! It's great to have so many new faces with us. It will take me a while to get everyone straight and to remember names and "stories." The main thing is that we're all in this together and each of us has a struggle of one kind or another. Join us on the chat thread and check out some of the other activities we have...something for everyone!! If you're in cold country like I am, stay warm. If you are in warmer territory, I don't want to hear about it...I'm so jealous!! Hop on board and join the fun! Jeannie

Hi. Losing 50#s sounds wonderful. Hope you are feeling better. Am in Southern Oregon and it is cold here too. Am using You Tube to get some exercise in and to start moving. Spring is around the corner. It would be so nice to get and an walk (with greater ease) in March. Hope you have a great day!

Hi All:

Joined Spark People once a number of years ago. Did nothing with it. Am retired now and settled. It is so interesting to see so many folks trying to lose the same amount of weight that I am. Whew, I am not in this alone. Have taken time etch day to read articles and posts. It is truly helping me stay on track. Mind you it has only be 9 days. Still, I think I am "all in".Drinking 8 glasses of water has not been obtainable. A couple of days I managed 6. Am trying to plan meals and stick to the calorie range. The food tracker is excellent and easy to use. Am 67 and want to hit 70 in better health and ACTIVE!

Thanks for being there.

Hi, don't know your name. I put mine on bottom of messages (it is automatic). I have been in SP since July 12 2014 and have not lost weight. Guess I wasn't ready. Am at my lowestest only as far as moods are concerned. I too have a great deal to lose so hopefully we both will lose that 50 lbs by Sept. You will love this group. Linda

Sandiegopam, try to log food, exercise and weight. Log in for day and get your bonus points on start page if over 25 points. Don't go in for challenges, etc until you feel comfortable. Too much, too soon will make you feel confused and you will not continue. It took me months to figure out my home page and start page. Then I added groups and friends. There is always help at bottom of page, but take it slow. Welcome to the very best group.

Good morning, came back to SP again, more times than I want to say. First day was yesterday and went way over. Day two breakfast tasted better and 200 cal. Less. I am shooting for mini goals to feel better about my accomplishments and then maybe will feel better about me.

Hi, Jineane. Sorry it took me a while to get here to your posting. Good to have you with us. Your story sounds very familiar...probably because so many of us have similar issues and stories. You have 2 cats...there are several of your new teammates who love their cats, too. Check out the chat thread...there are a couple of pictures people have posted in the last couple of days. Fun! Looking forward to seeing you around the team pages!! Hugs, Jeannie emoticon

Hi - my name is Jineane . I have been a member of Spark People since June 2010 and I just keep plodding along here. I am 61 years young and suffer from osteo-arthritis and have had both knees replaced. I like to crochet, read, listen to music, laugh, and eat. I am single with 2 cats whom I spoil rotten. When my father passed away in 2008 I moved in with my mother (who is now 95). I would like to make it well into my 80's or 90's, so that means establishing a healthy weight and making exercise and activity a part of my life style. I like the motivation and challenge threads on this team, and look forward to joining in the fun.

Hi, Lesa! Great to have you join our team. We're always happy for new members and as you said, getting and giving support is so necessary. That's what we're here for. Be sure to stop by the other team threads soon. emoticon

Please, please...set up your SparkPage soon! It makes communicating with you so much easier and we can also send you virtual Goodies!! So fun to give and get them. emoticon Make sure to NOT set it to private. If you do, we still can't communicate unless you add each single person as a friend. Anyway...see you around the team pages soon. emoticon

Hi Everyone. My name is Lesa. I am a 67 years young great grandmother. It seems that I have been trying to lose weight most of my adult life and have had a couple of successes. However, due to illness I became morbidly obese. I am on this new road now to get my life and health in order, because I am so tired of being tired. The good Lord has blessed me by not letting me develop diabetes and I want to lose this weight not only because of health issues, but because of my family. You see, because of my morbid obesity I have COPD, SOB and limited mobility, I can't interact with them like I wish to. God has been good to me, now I need to be good to myself. So, I am about to embark on a new lease on life and I hope to receive support and encouragement from all of you just as I will be giving it to you.

My hobbies are reading, solving various types of puzzles, watching various TV shows and current and vintage movies, various card games and cooking, just to name a few.

Looking forward to having good friendships. May God continue to bless all of you. Enjoy the rest of your day.

I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

I'm Pam. This is my third try with SparkPeople after a three-year hiatus--and wow! I'm over 60! How did that happen?? I recently joined a healthy lifestyle program through work, but their abstinence approach drove me back to SparkPeople for a third time. SparkPeople allows me to make health changes when *I* am ready to make them!

I need to lose at least 100 pounds, and I want to be healthier. I have limited mobility and use a rollator (walker with wheels) to get around because of injuries that can't be fixed.

I like reading, old movies, sci-fi, Doctor Who, My Little Pony, Harry Potter, and cosplay. I go to fun conventions with my son.

This looks like a great team!

~ Pam

Hi To Sharon...I hope this time is the one that'll work for you...and ME. I too have been off and on SP for a few years. This time I intend to stick with it. I have to admit the past few days haven't been the best, but I'm back here logging in my food, exercise and team.

Thanks for the welcome Reddmarie7.... and hello again to everyone. That's all for now.. adacomstock aka Alicia

Hello, Sharon. Like you, I've been around SparkPeople quite awhile. I lost quite a bit and then began gaining it back. Now I'm on a slow downward trend, but still have many miles to go. We're here for you, and happy to know you'll be here for us, too. Come back often and jump right into everything!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi, my name is Sharon
I've been an on and off SparkPeople member since January 2009. When I first joined, I was in my 50's and had 85# to lose. Here it is 6 years later, I'm now in my 60's and have 116# to lose. Needless to say, I've been moving in the wrong direction. So I thought, since I'm starting anew, time to find some new teams. Several that I was a member of previously are now inactive and going through my then 81 SparkFriends, several of them have been inactive also. So I'm removing them and my friends are now down to 61, and I'm still going through that list. I've been reading some of your comments and you seem to be a very supportive group, just what I'm looking for! A group that I can offer support to also. There is a saying misery loves company, but I think it is more appropriate to say or rather think, that if we're in this group, we're not miserable because we're trying to improve our current states. I do believe WE CAN DO THIS!

Going to be successful with SparkPeople and my Fitbit!!

Hi Linda,

Thanks for the message. I went to Smith College in MA..I was 57 and graduated when I turned 60. It was more filling a bucket list than anything because I never really worked at a good paying job. Neither did I continue on with a Masters. I had wanted to become a therapist, but in my Sr. year my son was paralyzed in a motor cross accident. That sort of took my energy away. He is still able to drive because he has the use of his arms/wrists, but not fine motor for his hands. anyway. I was glad to get my college degree, and always say who knows what I'll do before I die, maybe I'll write a best seller (LOL) or become an artist, right now I am trying to be serious about sticking with SP and getting my weight down. It helps a lot to record it daily and my exercise too...and of course having the encouragement of the SP is the best part. I'm here if you choose to write, I'll answer. My best to you,Alicia

Alicia, welcome. You sound so interesting. Back to college?? I tell my son if I ever won the lottery I would head back to school. I had to do a two year business college back in the day.
Good luck with your quest. It took me a while to settle into logging food and fitness but now I am slowly losing weight. Linda
