First of all, welcome CAPTAINMORGAN2. My mom and dad are your age and they thought retirement would be totally different, but instead they had to file for bankruptcy last year. They know how you feel financially.
Just a note about your drinking, if you still drink, that will only add to your stress. Yes, at first it may seem like it works to deal with the stress, but I'm sure you know that in the long run, it only makes things worse because when the high is gone, the problem is still there.
Have you tried other options for stress relief? Have you tried writing/journaling, listening to musick, taking just 15 minutes a day to do something you enjoy like gardening, a craft, art, walking etc. There are always ways in all situations to find some relief. Maybe not the amount of relief we want, but enough to get us through to the next step. Look through SP articles on Stress and see what you can find to help you through this time in your life. I am sure you will find something that will help.

CAPTAINMORGAN2, What courage to post! Just keep getting it all out. There's so much going on with you that you probably need to purge it all out. In the end, it is just stuff happening. Really really bad and tough stuff to be sure, but just stuff happening. All that crap about the stress really coming from your reaction to adversity - I believe it. Well, I believe that the degree of stress comes from that. Bottom line, you have a ton of stressful stuff going on, which you may not be able to control. But you can work on getting your "house" in order, and caring for you. Not that it's easy. I'm glad you are here so we all can help. Be well, and keep posting!

Welcome. I do understand your stress. My 89 year old uncle who has lived with us for the past 2 1/2 years is moving into an assisted living facility tomorrow. It was a hard decision but necessary. He qualified for the memory care unit (locked down) but there is no money for that. They willingly took him in the general care unit (his retirement and pensions will just cover the monthly cost) providing he doesn't run - he has a habit of running. He thinks he is only going for a month, but there is no way he can return home. Good luck on find help. I will keep you in my prayers.

“We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

i will try to be brief. Have joined other challenges also trying to cope. I am dealing with my 94 old mother's alzheimer decline. i took care of her in her home as long as i could, over 2 years and then had to move her to an assisted living memory facility. all her money is gone and I have had to apply for medical assistance. There in comes further stress to the big time. i have been on the phone, copying, sending, etc. etc. etc. It had upset me to the point I think my husband was thinking i was going to go completely bonkers and that is how i felt. I was drinking too much (cut the alcohol challenge)I was crying and depressed and upset etc. I used sparks to help me settle down but this is not yet resolved. It took over my life til i forgot to "smell the roses" as the saying goes. I am 68 myself and thought my elder years would be serene, WRONG!! My husband is an alcoholic and while I was caring for my mother he took advantage to drink til he ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks and nearly died during which my mother was also there. I was diagnosed with skin cancer so had surgery for it, don't know if it wil pop up somewhere. This is why I am here. Sparks has helped me a lot but I want to do as much as I can to keep remembering what I am dealing with and what i have dealt with is not all there is in life. Want to hear other people's experiences. also have my 50th reunion coming in Aug. so would like to feel more"sane" by then. So, here i am. I also try to remember things can be worse, but also can be better.
