Hi! I'm 32 years old and in a wonderful relationship. I enjoy walking very much. I alternate between walking outside and to one of Leslie Sansone's DVDs. My knees have felt a bit sore lately, which is why I want to focus more of my fitness on walking. I'm happy to be here!

Hi
I am an over the road truck driver with very few healthy options for food. So I gained alot of weight in the last ten years of driving. I am now unhappy with my weight and how I look and am starting to do something about it. I do not have a lot of time to workout so I am doing little things. I bought the shape up shoes and I wear them ever other day I so far am not feeling a difference but I did just start using them last week. I try to walk at least 15 mins at a time 2x's a day. Slow at first as my dog has to go potty then we walk fast around the truck stop and depending on the size we may do 2-3 laps. I have stopped drinking soda all day long and now try to drink more water and 24oz of coffee a day. I have switched from lots of sugar to 2 pink packs in the coffee but the creamer is hard to let go of as of now. I am not really motivated to do much and find myself in catch 22 I want to lose weight but am lazy to actually work out. So baby steps for me. I have started to do things like park farther away from the door and arm lifts, leg lifts and simple things like that but walking will be my main form of exercise. Any help or motivation would be greatly appreciated!!!I just found out the other day the 36 laps around my truck and trailer is a mile. I am doing about 15 during the course of the day so far. Funny thing is I can walk around a Walmart for hours lol. Anyway Thx for reading and hope all are doing well. I am trying to start putting the effort here that I put to my farm on Facebook. Happy walking all
Amanda

Welcome to the walking team. You're off to a good start! If you're just starting out, you may have to take a rest day. I started out at 45 minutes everyday. But I had been walking previously, a few weeks before SparkPeople. I found that at 3 weeks into it, I needed a rest day even though I didn't want to break my routine. I compromised and walked 20 minutes so that I wouldn't break my walking streak.

Keep up the good work,
deb

Welcome, Jenny, CASSIFRASS2 and PIXIEMIA to the Walking Off the Weight team! I've never been a mom so I can't give any advice there but, I have found that walking is a great way to loose weight. You'll get excellent support from the members of this team. There's a ton information that Sparkpeople has to draw from.

I hope you moms get the most you can out of your SparkPeople experience.

Hi, I just recently joined spark people. I have been trying to lose weight almost my whole life. I found Leslie Sansone's walking dvds and love them. I am working my way up to do them more. I have two kids and I really need to get the weight off to keep up with them and to teach them a healthy lifestyle so they don't grow up overweight and obese like I did.

I'm Jenny. I'm trying to lose my baby weight, too (and my baby's almost 2). I use to not like to walk, but I've been doing it more lately and have come to enjoy it. I do a lot of my walking on my way to work and back to get in my exercise, but to, also, save on gas. Hopefully this group will get me to walking more than that, though.

Hi everyone! I'm Stacey and I too enjoy walking. Right now I'm walking only indoors on the treadmill because I live in Eastern Canada and it is freezing outside.... not to mention there is also a ton of snow on the ground. In the warmer weather I love being able to get out and walk in nature, there are a lot of groomed trails near my home that have beautiful scenery. Can't wait for summer to start!

Hello, Louise! We're so happy you have joined our team! I am envious of where you live. You'll be able to walk year round. Where I live, I have to deal with the snow (Erie, PA). Since you love walking, you're a perfect candidate for our team. With the variety you have, you'll be knocking those pounds off in no time.

So, Welcome, Louise! I hope you enjoy our team.

My name is Louise and I am 60 years young, will be 61
in February. I love walking but stopped for a while.
I am starting up a walking program again. I live in Arizona so there are a lot of beautiful parks I will be walking at. I want to train for a charity walk and also walk to lose a lot and I mean a lot of weight. I also love pool walking and any exercise that is done in the water like water aerobics and swimming but most of all pool walking! I am not sure if I had joined this team before and then left but I joined or rejoined today and this time here to stay. I like walking and not running also. I also love dancing for exercise.

Welcome Abby! Boy, are you in the right place! I don't know about the rest of the team but, I also hate running. Walking is my main cardio exercise. You will get a lot of support from our team.

So, come on in, make yourself comfortable and let's get walking! :-)

OMG! In my weight-loss journey, I have purchased a treadmill, StairMaster, ski machine, total gym, ab rocker and a few other little machines that I've forgotten about. My DH had a similar reaction to all my craziness. I have since given away everything but my total gym (which I don't use). I do use Leslie Sansone Walking dvds. If I'm not doing the dvds, I'm outside walking. It's the best.

I sincerely hope you enjoy your walks/workouts with Jillian. Let us know how it works out.

Warmest welcome to the team and thank you for the laugh!

Hi there, just a quick note to introduce myself. I'm 48, a SAHM to couple of bulldogs, and the proud (and a lil bit scared) owner of a Nordic Track Incline Trainer as well as Jillian Michaels iFit Power Walking cards. After various different exercise equipment pieces coming in and out of the house my DH has threatened that if I don't use this one he's going to tie me to it and turn it on high, lol.

I'm about to go face Jillian for the first time and I'll admit it... I'm afraid. I'm just glad it's Power Walking so there shouldn't be any running in there.. I hope.

Welcome to the team ladies!

MOMMAOF2G1B, with all that you've been through, I wish you much success in your weight loss journey! I think it's great that you've been able to keep the weight off that you've lost so far.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Sarah! One of the things that got me walking is having my car break down and not being able to fix it right away. It was actually a Godsend! I walk everywhere now on purpose, even in the snow in my area. It has become a habit I truly enjoy. I know for a fact that having a walking routine will absolutely work to help you loose weight. The magic is in being consistent. I walk every single day when I can. I don't think you have to everyday, 5 days is probably enough. I know you will come love when you start dropping pounds! Welcome to the team!

Hi, I'm Sarah. And I'm an 18 year old who's a senior in highschool!!! So, I have no car and I can't just go to the gym to work out whenever. Therefore, I'm going to have to power walk it!!! emoticon Which is great because I live in a nice neighborhood. I joined this group to see if I could see the progress others make and tips for using walking as a major tool in weightloss.

Hi Ms B, Welcome to the walking team! I have a niece who had knee replacement surgery (only one, though) but I can't imagine what it feels like. I admire your determination to get healthy by walking. I really love the walking dvds but, walking outside is so much better. Just take it slow and steady, a little each day. Don't concentrate too much on not falling 'cause that's when it happens.

I sincerely hope you come to love walking with us. You're going to love the team, SparkPeople and all its members. We are all here to help you!

Much success!

Hi, This is Ms. B and I am new to this team. I was fortunate to have both my knees replaced last summer. Now I am able to walk without pain. I joined this team to get some information, help, and motivation to walk off my weight.

Right now, I am using a DVD, but really can't wait for it to warm up, so I can go outside. I still have a fear of falling down or messing up my new knees.

Hello, all! My name is Michele and I have been a member of Spark for 4 years (though not a very successful one emoticon ).

I am a wife of 20 years, mother of 2 teens and a full-time Spanish teacher. My favorite fitness activity is walking with Leslie Sansone's DVD's, but I also have a treadmill that I use, as well as Wii Fit Plus (which I am re-discovering after a long break). I live in Iowa, so outside walking is limited to the warmer months. In the summer, hubby and I go for walks after supper in our little town. I also sometimes go to the track and do laps while listening to music on my MP3 player.

I noticed this group on the Spark page of one of my friends and it seemed like a good fit for me. I hope I can provide support to some of you along the way, too!

Hi Everybody, My name is Corella, my friend showed me this site and I think it is AMAZING!

I have 94 lbs to lose and I do have a Gym membership but im not able to go there every day, i usually can once or twice a week because of work and college at the same time. I figured though, since I live way out in the country I can just walk, my mom is going to walk with me and Im thinking of taking my Rottweiler with me to because he LOVES walking and hes really obedient...

Because we do live in a rural area there is no sidewalks and there are a LOT of curves in the road, so i have to be pretty careful, but the sights are just beautiful, and I joined this group to see if i can find some new tips and tricks for walking as i have never incorporated walking except for on the treadmill at the gym...

Welcome, Christi, Nadiya and Wanda. We are happy you decided to walk with us. Personally, I'm addicted to walking. It's the greatest way to loose weight in my opinion. It's fun, easy and most of us have to do it anyway. So, why not use what we do already to loose weight?

I hope you enjoy your walks. We are here to offer support along the way. Welcome to the family!

Thank you. You are inspiring. I am keeping a chart on my food plan. I need to begin a chart on exercise and get my water ready in the morning. I plan to use my treadmill (used one from my daughter) during the winter months and begin walking outsdie as soon as the weather changes. I hope to loose the 85 pounds by next January 2011. But I will be motivated with each 10 pounds I lose. Thanks again for your comments and encouragement.

emoticon Hi my name is Donna and I've been around sparks for awhile. I started a walking program 2 days ago and thought this would be a great team to join. I'm 57 years old and as of tonight I am 52 lbs overweight. I belong to TOPS and am struggling. I want to walk along with my diet plan to reach my goal by October 21 2010. I keep a food chart daily and track my water and exercise. I do this in a book I have. I am thinking of maybe also tracking at Sparks. It is just too much right now. I hope that I can be inspired and also be inspiring. Donna

Hello all, I'm a newbie!

I am extermely obese, so for right now (starting out) I'm been going for short walks around my neighborhood at probably a slower pace than say, a normal person would.

But at least I'm in it, and surely will improve with time and progress!

Stacy, 4mph is a 15 minute mile, which means it will take you 15 minutes to walk one mile. If you have a pedometer, you can track it that way. But you can also use the fitness maps here on SP. You said you plotted out your route. So, if you walked 60 minutes, and you went 4 miles, each mile will take 15 minutes. (60/4 = 15). It's quite brisk.

If your route is 3 miles, and it took you 55 minutes, it's an 18.3 minute mile, which means it took you 18.3 minutes to walk 1 mile, which is approximately 3.2 mph.

If it takes 17 minutes for a mile, it's approximately 3.5 mph.

Hope this helps..

Hi all,

I have been on team for some time but was not too serious about walking...I am SOooOO geared up to walk that I even plotted out my walking route with Spark!

I am curious though...Does anyone know an online tool where I can see what 4 miles per hour is supposed to sound like or look like? I don't want to walk to slow or too fast.

Thanks!

Hello everyone!
I'm Maggie, I'm just getting back into a exercise routine, in the past few years, I've had back, knee and shoulder surgery, so walking is something I can do without too much discomfort.
I'm hoping to walk my way to a new me in the coming new year.

Hello! My name is Kathryn, and I used to never want to walk because I thought it was "wimpy" or at least not as good as running. But I finally realized that when I walk, I enjoy it! I like the time to think and enjoy the scenery. When I run, I'm so focused on just breathing and not dying that I finish one day and never want to do it again. So my goal for the new year is to walk at least 10 miles per week and keep with it for a whole year! I already got started this week...give myself a headstart on the new year, haha. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Kathryn

Hello peeps. Walking is one of the few things I can still do that does not completely wear me out. I have problems with chronic pain and ongoing health problems that have yet to be fully diagnosed.

Anyway, one of my goals in the coming year is to walk more. Even if I start out with walking just 10 minutes and try to build up as I am able, at least I will be walking.

You can find out more about me on my Spark Page.

I'm excited about my weight-loss journey and being a part of this community. I have 75 pounds to lose. Chronic low back pain and sciatica has been a real hindrance to my ability to lose weight in the past. I'm determined to lose the weight by walking because I love walking. I've been able to walk longer and longer distances lately so I'm making the best of the opportunity to lose a few pounds.

I'm really looking forward to teaming up with you guys and getting to know you.

Hello -

I am Irene (aka Richlady39) -

I am from SE Florida - been on SP for a few years - on several teams. I am determined to get back to walking - either to a tape/dvd - or getting outside. My other goal is to lose the 20lbs that have crept up over the past 4 years - and get stronger.

Have a great Sunday

Hi Cara, I'm also walking my first half marathon, in April, so I'm right where you are! :) There's a book by Dave McGovern called The Complete Guide to Marathon Walking that I've found really helpful--especially the pace chart in the back. There's also a couple of half marathon teams here on SP that have both walkers and runners in them. Hope that helps!

Hi all! My name is Cara. So I'm still half asleep this morning when a friend calls and says: "Do you want to walk a half marathon with me in March?"
Me: "How long is it?"
Her: "13 miles."
Me: "Yeah, ok."

Now that I'm fully awake. I don't even no where to begin preparing. Can anyone point me to some good resources? I need to go from 0 to 13 miles by mid-March. Thanks!

MIZZVIR2, JBAISTRERI11, Welcome to the walking team!!
I joined the team in October. I started out walking outside 4 or 5 days a week. Then slowly worked up to 6 days a week. Since the deep freeze has come to my area, (I live in Erie, PA)I've taken my walks inside. I do at least 6 miles a day with Leslie Sansone using her walking DVDs. I find them very effective. I'm sure you will find your own niche in our Walking Team.

Happy Walking!
