Welcome any newbies. Just want to say, I am into my second week and loving it. I feel satisfied, and not craving much of anything, plus I have lost 4# already. Know you can do it! This is probably the most supportive team I have been on. Congratulations for joining this group. I will be happy to chat with you if you are looking for support or someone to be a sounding board to. Blessings. Terri

I have had Meniere's before as well so I know what you are going through. The fluid rolling around in the ear is very disturbing. I would roll over in bed and the entire room would spin. I have problems ever since then with my ear.

It does make life miserable. I have only had it since the end of January. But, have felt like I had a continual ear infection in one ear for the past two to three years....natuarlly the one I have the ear issue in and there were no infections, just fluid in my inner ear causing the feeling of pain. The worst is that I have lost a lot of hearing in that ear.

I am very alert on my sodium since being diagnosed with the Meniere's Disease for the inner ear. I notice lately if I have a meal that is overly salty, I instantly feel dizzy and nauseated. Almost an instant reaction to things. I know there is a lot of fluid in my ear, as I can hear it when I move....I know sounds weird but true. I am thinking about taking up a surgical consultation to just see if there is anything that can be done to help, besides diuretics to relieve the symptoms, especially since I need to keep up with a 6 year old.

Anyhow, watching the salt intake. Very rarely do I buy processed foods, when I do, I buy ones that have the lowest amount of sodium in them. I mainly put together similar meals from scratch using lesser salt than is required in the recipe and using kosher or sea salt, as it has more flavor, you can use less of it and it is much lower in sodium than table salt. So, yes....I am watching the sodium levels.

I do notice on days when the sodium intake is low, I have better days. When the levels are high....I am dizzy and feel off balance.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Oh...that inner ear stuff can really make life miserable.

Are you tracking your sodium? Getting that sodium down as low as possible..(don't worry..there's no way you're not going to get enough for your body's needs) is one thing that's thought to be a factor in this condition.

Many of us here, me included, have been amazed at how much sodium we were taking in when we started tracking it. That stuff is everywhere, especially if you use any kind of packaged/processed foods.

In addition to whatever kind of medical help you're getting...and your medications...reducing that sodium sure can't hurt and it just might help.

Hope you get better really soon..

So far...not good. Had an ear issue I have flare up. I was recently diagnosed with an inner ear problem known as Menier's Disease where my balance, hearing, are affected along with vertigo and nausea. So trying to overcome a bought with that. Right now eating veggies and protein only, are not sitting well on my stomach with the nausea. But, I am hanging in there and am trying to overcome this so I can work that South Beach Diet magic. Thanks for asking though! Wish I had better news.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am hoping South Beach can help give me a few more ideas, whereas the Insulin Resistance Diet, though helpful, has not resulted in much weight loss.

Welcome!

Many have found themselves to be insulin resistant for various reasons and most do great on South Beach. It's designed to keep that blood sugar nice and even. If you follow it as closely as you can, it will do just that.

So welcome aboard!!

emoticon to the team! I'm insulin resistant as well (due to PCOS) and this diet has been great for me. I can really tell how much more energy and just how much better I feel in general.

Good luck to you!

Hi,

I am not new to Spark, but am new to this team. I have been doing a similar diet, though not having much success with the Insulin Resistance Diet, and have been reading a bit more about the South Beach Diet and think there are some tips here that can help me get things moving in the right direction again.

I am in this to lose weight in order to regain my health. I do have insulin resistance, but due to a diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (mainly caused by some medication in my past and some past eating choices that were not the best), plus diabetes runs high in my family so want to get the weight off to reduce risk of that, and need to watch the sodium intake now too.

I am hoping this team can help me get back in the direction I need.

Thanks,

Cindy
