Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome. I'm excited to start SB on Monday. In the meantime, I'm doing lots of reading on how to get started. I'm seeing a wealth of information right here on this team.

pssttt welcome to start a new thread versus using the menu ideas thread..hehe.

Regarding milk alternatives - read the ingredients and check for sugar. There is soy milk out there without sugar. The nutritionals are not what you are looking at since milk has naturally occuring sugars. You won't be able to do vanilla anything though since most have added sugar in them.

Im gonna make sure to keep my eye out for the Almond Breeze Milk..Thank you!

and Im gonna do that, I dont want to jump into the amount of servings Quick..im scared i might like the food too much and over do it! =) I did the one serving of starch yesterday= 1 cup of kashi cereal, and 15 grapes for my fruit...I did good so far. Im shocked im sticking thru this cause my will power had gone out the window 65lbs ago!

During phase 2..more or less how much weight were you losing? if u dont mind me asking..

I use unsweetened Almond Breeze Almond milk or Hood's Calorie Countdown Milk. I don't like the taste of the Soy Milk.

Many of us add only a fruit or starch at a time so we can tell if they cause cravings or stall weight loss. If it were me I would take it slow and and add one or the other and wait a few days eating that food. Check out the South Beach 1.5 thread in this group.

Is there a certain type of Milk that you might suggest I use...Apparantly all the ones at my local grocery had TONS of Sugar..I settled for Soymilk in Vanilla..what do you guys suggest?

Also, I know that in Phase 2 you eat 1 starch and one fruit per day and gradually increase to 2-3 of each per day...how long should I wait till I add the 2-3 servings?

I Appreciate the support! =) emoticon

I don't know if anyone has shared this recipe but it is one of my faves for breakfast! I make the night before so I can have a quick breakfast before church.

2 Morning Star sausage patties OR 4 oz. of either lf bacon or sausage
1/4 green pepper, chopped
1/4 onion, chopped
5 large eggs (I use Eggbeaters myself)
1/4 cup fresh sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup l/f shredded chedder cheese

preheat oven to 350.Cook the sausage, pepper, and onion for 5 min or until sausage is no longer pink. Spoon mixture into a bowl and let cool slightly. Stir in eggs and mushrooms. Divide evenly into muffin cups. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 20 min or until egg is set.

Tonight we are bar-b-queuing mini burgers (sliders) to put on mini buns. I will eat mine over lettuce, tomato and onion with no buns. We season them with montreal seasoning and put 1/4 slice jackblue cheese from Trader Joes on top. I might have a little ranch dressing since I have extra calories to eat. So tasty!

chili...spaghetti sauce (meat/veggie based) served with whole wheat pasta for them and with spaghetti squash for you...roasted whole chickens which you can serve a big salad (for you to eat your chicken over) and then find a side dish in our recipes (cauliflower mock potato salad is good and maybe a bean dish).

Ok, so I could use some help for this weekend..my family and I are having "camp nite" We plan to sleep in tents in the living room w/sleeping bags (too cold yet in PA to camp in the yard)and the kids and DH are asking for all the usual camp fare (grill grub, smores, dough boys, etc). I got the hot dogs under control..fat free ones will work fine and I have leftover turkey chili that I thought would be fun to eat out of cans..but what else? I want the family to have fun without feeling deprived and I dont want to have to make 2 separate menus (did enough of that in P1) Help!!

Started Phase 1 today. So far going okay.
Had egg scrambled with onion, mushroom, sausage for breakfast with 1 cup skim milk
Chick fil a grilled chicken salad for lunch with sunflower seeds and light Italian dressing.
Planning baked tilapia for dinner with broccoli and green beans and possibly more vegetables.

Hoping for weight loss like I had the last time I did this!

just in case anyone is in the mardi gras spirit, thought I'd share. I found a great reduced fat turkey andouille sausage at whole foods, and i'll be cooking it with collard greens tonight. I've made it before, cooking the greens, onions, and sausage together with chicken stock. yummy!

Honestly that is up to you on how much you can eat, tolerate, etc. Portion for all beans is 1/2 cup for a serving. Your soup won't normally have a 1/2 cup of beans in one cup of soup.

I know when I eat soup, I tend to eat 1 - 2 cups (if its a veggie broth/veggie soup I tend to eat 2 cups).

Beans aren't fattening - they are high fiber and a great source of good carbs.

How many cups of navy bean soup should I have a day? Beans just seem like it will add the weight.

Thank you! So I had some leftover from yesterday, so I put some on fish this morning. I was amazed at how Tilapia and that dip go soooo well together. I had a luncheon date with a friend and we went to the gym. I had the most delicious salmon salad, but after I ate it realized it had strawberries on it. I figure there were probably 4 to 5 strawberries max as they were sliced. It was good though with sunflower seeds, grilled salmon, fresh asparagus spears on mixed greens with dressing that I requested the olive oil and vinegar and got it in the small containers and used one.

I was just trying to decide what to make for dinner. The soup sounds like just what I need! Thanks for the great ideas.

IS it ok to eat the spinach and artichoke dip by TJ Fridays with celery?

Phase 1 meals:
-pot of chili w/garbanzo, black, and red beans, crushed tomatoes, chopped peppers and onions, and i like to add frozen spinach and a LOT of spice! Sometimes I top it with a sprinkle of RF cheddar cheese and a tbs of RF sour cream

-chicken salad: leftover boneless chicken breast with spices chopped and mixed with celery, onion, mayo and rolled up in Boston lettuce leaves

-soup: I put leftovers of any veggies I have that are beginning to wilt in a pan and cook with chopped onion and garlic. I add marjoram, parsley, onion powder, red pepper flakes, oregano and chicken bullion. My fave veggies in soup are: onion, celery, spinach, zucchini, peppers, broccoli. When done, top with a spoonful of fat free grated topping (like parm cheese)

Phase 2 snacks:
-1 tbs peanut butter spread on wheat tortilla, roll up and nuke for about 20 seconds in microwave

-1 string cheese and apple slices

You guys are great. I am on day 2 and feeling fantastic! This is definitely good for my body as I had received results from my allergist showing I have a wheat and dairy intolerance. I am just going lactose free and for some reason yogurt doesn't bother me. They also told me I should avoid night vegetables such as tomotoes and potatoes of any kind. Thank you for all your information and support. You are all wonderful and I am looking forward to a wonderful week and year!

Extra light virgin olive oil is fine if that is what you like. Honestly there is no difference other than the processing of the olive oil.

So I was planning out tomorrow and by adding in the oil, somehow I got up to 1400 quickly. I just realized that we bought extra light virgin olive oil and I should probably just get the regular kind. Luckily I have a garlic expressions salad dressing that is regular olive oil and garlic only. I am so excited to try this new approach to eating as I really believe it can only benefit my health.

When you focus on healthy foods and eliminate a lot of the processed sugary carb foods the hunger disappears.

Be sure and eat at least 1200 calories and eat 3 meals a day and your snacks. Get in your 2 dairy servings a day, your 1/2 cup of beans, 4 1/2 cups of veggies, your water, lean protein, and good fats.

Thanks so much for the information. Now I am trying to figure out why I feel full but my calories are really low. I may just wait and see if I am hungry around 7 p.m. and just have a glass of skim milk then if I am. Hopefully that should bring my calories up.

I am on day 3 of P1 and made this recipe for dinner tonight. I didn't use the tomato sauce, I used crushed tomatos instead and no butter or carrot. It was really good and I didn't feel like I was eating diet food....now to get past this late night sweet tooth!

FOR EGG IDEAS: I FOUND A NORDIC EGG COOKER AT WALMART. IT IS HARD WHITE PLASTIC WITH A CLEAR HINGED LID FOR THE MICROWAVE. IT MAKES A ROUND COOKED EGG OR OMELET THAT CAN FIT AN ENGLISH MUFFIN IF YOU CAN HAVE ONE.

I PUT A TOUCH OF EVOO, SCRAMBLE ONE EGG WITH SEASONING, ADD SOME CHOPPED HAM OR SLICED HOT DOGS,
AND COOK FOR 1.5 MIN. IN MY MICROWAVE. AFTERWARDS, SPRINKLE WITH SHREDDED CHEESE (OR PUT A SLICE OF FF CHEESE IN WITH THE EGG TO COOK.

YOU CAN PUT IN INSIDE A PITA TO CARRY IT WITH YOU.

IT WILL HOLD 2 EGGS BUT MINE NEEDS COOKING 1.5 MIN. ON EACH SIDE...JUST FLIP THE LITTLE COOKER.

I CAN EITHER LOAD OR UNLOAD THE DISHWASHER WHILE IT COOKS. I PLACE THE COOKER ON THE SAUCER I AM GOING TO EAT FROM SO IT CAN GET WARM AND NOT COOL DOWN MY EGG. IT IS VERY GOOD WITH A CUP OF SF INTERNATIONAL COFFEE WITH SF CARAMEL CREAMER.

Just a note: polenta technically not beachy since its corn meal so it falls into the occasional/rarely eat category (depending on where you are in your weight loss).

Thanks for sharing - sounds yummy!
