Welcome to the team and SparkPeople! You will find quite a few people on this team that can relate to your story. Unfortunately, PCOS can be a struggle but it is manageable. PCOS can also be different for every woman so it can take a little trial and error to find what does and does not work for you. Additionally, as my doctor explained to me, PCOS means that we have to work harder to lose weight. emoticon

Since you mentioned that you had your metabolism checked, have they also checked for insulin resistance? Insulin resistance is very common for women with PCOS and can make it very difficult to lose weight. However, medicines like metformin can help our bodies use the insulin that is producing, which in turns helps us lose weight and combats the insulin resistance. Limiting simple carbs (think white rice, white bread, etc.) can also help when battling insulin resistance.

Exercise (both cardio and strength training) are important in your weight loss journey. The short gist is that exercise helps are bodies, and if you do have insulin resistance, it also helps are bodies use the insulin as well.

Keep your head up and pay attention to how your body feels. Sometimes you can figure out what works best for you just by listening to what your body is telling you. Best wishes on your journey!

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this team. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19 and have been struggling with my weight since I was young. I have joined this team in the hopes that I can find someone to relate to and find some motivation. I had my metabolism tested this past summer. I was told that I would have to eat an extremely reduced diet and lift a large amount of weights just to start loosing weight, so getting a little frustrated and maybe a little depressed. I hope I find some people to relate to on here to help me on my way. :)
