Welcome to Sparks and our group. It sometimes takes us by surprise when we are first diagnosed. Accepting that diagnosis is hard for many of us but sooner better than later we have to get informed and start making better food choices, get exercise in our day and try to manage the stresses of life if we can.

I am still learning things and have found out so much here on Sparks. My doctor was not as informative as were the members I've met who have been living with Diabetes.

Ask questions. People will try to help if they can.

It does sound like you have a lot going on. One piece of advice is to make some "me time" that has nothing to do with family or school. Even if only 5 minutes to sit and have a cup of tea. Take that for yourself. You deserve it!

You will find this web site to have lots of useful information and very supportive people too. Sounds like you are starting off great with a 'can do' attitude and that is more than half the battle I think.

I was diagnosed on Friday October 22, 2010 with diabetes. I am not new to the whole diabetes idea because both my parents and several aunts and uncles are type 2. However i spent my whole life trying to take care of myself to avoid this. Guess it was meant to be. It took me a few days to accept the results and now i feel that with sparkspeople i can still succeed in my goals to lose the weight and change my life. I am now doing all the research i can and trying to figure out all that i can and cannot do. I am 33 years old and have two children of my own and i care for three that live in the home with me. I am a full time college student online. I also have just recently married a few months ago and getting ready to move into a new home. Lots of stress at the moment but I know i can do this and change my life for the better. Thanks to Sparkspeople.

Melinda Lisby : Smile its a new day and God love's you.
