And I'll bet that we're all still reading and loving it.

Books are double and triple stacked on our shelves too. I review books for freinds and get freebies at conferences and book conventions so the supply is endless. When I do library signings I take gently used books for giveaways. I never meet anyone who doesn't appreciate a free stack.

I went thru my books & took some to the used book store where I get credit for them. Mosty the horror type books that I hardly read any more since I got into paranormal & mystrey. Needed the shelf space. I used to lend my books but sfter not getting them back or getting them back in a bad condition I quit lending. I'm not into jewerly or designer clothes so my books are my "wealth" so to speak. Mary/MO emoticon

Wow, is that a lot of books! I sometimes wonder how many I would have, had I not given away/sold so many throughout the years. It might be close to 5000...or more.

Your house sounds like ours. We are both avid readers who hate to give up a book. We moved a lot from West Virginia when we moved to Seattle. Some are books from childhood. We have a 30 x 60 room lined with bookshelves and still have boxes of books. I have a lot of old (really old) Harlequin and Silhouette. I have given some to the library and second-hand stores but still have lots. Anyone who would like a grab-bag and is willing to pay the postage, let me know.

I found a great inexpensive software called Readerware (www.readerware.com). You enter the ISBN number and it automatically catalogs the book. Add a cheap bar-code reader like cue-cat and it is simple.

I know how you feel! When we moved I had to get rid of a lot of my books, but I still have more than 10 boxes of books that have to be unpacked once we settle for good. I can't see myself using a Kindle either, I love the feel of the paper and weight of a good book!

I hear you. When I moved from Cambridge to here I had over 7 thousand books, donated almost half, and moved five times down here, donated more, but I do love my books. I cannot see me using a kindle, as I love the feel and smell of books. I still purchase books, but more and more use the library. They do well, but when a favorite author is coming out with something, I purchase it. It's a better addiction than others, but balance is what I am heading for.

My 1st week of retirement I took a 2" black 3 hole notebook, put in index dividers & listed all my books by author. Took a while but I take it with me. I have that one for paranormal & a red one for mystreys done the same way. DH doesn't read but doesn't have a problem with helping me find the books I'm searching for. I've got a library for the mystery books along with the computor & family history stuff. Then we have a room that was a guest room but have since turned into a book room for paranormal books. There's book cases on all four walls. I'm also going to set up the treadmill there so I'll use it more (hopefully). I'm told you can read while using it. Yeah, as soon as I can use it without holding on! Mary/Mo

Know what you mean. I just can't stop buying books. I am on Goodreads.com and you have a TBR (to be read) list. You enter your books and that way you know what you have because you can search your books. I have a problem with buying the same book multiple times so now I can search and see if I already have the book. I found about 4 books that I had 2 copies of when I started entering books into my list. Also, our house is very small and I give away books as soon as we have read them, except for signed books and sometimes I've accidentally given those away. Sigh. Keep reading!

Thanks for the welcome everybody.

Actually we only keep the books we really love-- the others are donated to the library book sale. Our biggest delight (and greatest downfall) is Amazon's used books-- it's like having the biggest used bookstore in your office.

Welcome from Sacramento, CA. I keep my books on a spreadsheet and put them in the shelves alphabetically, by author. I only separate the SF and Erotica from the rest of the books.

emoticon Welcome to the team, MSBUNCLE. I love to read too!! I have 1700 books and some of them had to stay in boxes when we moved to NC last year. I miss them so much! LOL Almost all of my books are ones I want to read ... with 3400 more on my wishlist. Another fun website is Bookcrossing.com ... You can register your books and watch as they travel and see other people's comments about them. I really enjoy it. You can put up your wishlist and view other people's wishlist and give/receive books with others that way. I also use PaperBackSwap and BookMooch as well. With the 3 websites I have books coming and going constantly! :) It's about as much fun as reading them. haha

Welcome MSBUNCLE,
Perhaps rather than moving, do you belong to PaperBackSwap.com and/or BookMooch.com? There you can list your books & trade books with other members. The only cost is postage when you mail out books. It is also fun to request and receive books free from others.

I'm a new member who lives to read. Fortunately my husband is just as passionate, however this means our house is overflowing with books; we have 7 floor-to-ceiling bookcases but they are all jammed with books so the books are stacked on the floor by the bed, on the kitchen table, and anywhere else there is a flat surface. When I moved to North Carolina from California 10 years ago to be with my husband I only brought a fraction of my 5000 book collection but the collecting never stops and now we have more than 5000. Perhaps it is time to move.
