Hi REENSKI!
I thought I would miss the feel, the smell, and the sensory input of actually holding a book, but honestly, I have found I prefer the kindle now.

I bought a first generation kindle used on craigslist, and don't think I want to hold a book again. It's light, the type can be changed which for me, alleviates the need for reading glasses. I just increase the print size when my eyes get a little tired.

The screen really doesn't have any glare, that I have run into. It is not back lit, so I do still need a light when reading in dark areas.

One thing I am in LOVE with is the fact that I can now read with one hand. I originally bought it for my commute to/from work. I read the Boston Globe daily, and it is not in a manageable format (the really big pages that are hard to turn and hold). Because I may need to stand on the train, I can hold the kindle and "turn the pages" all with one hand.

As for holding books, I find that again the lightness of the kindle makes reading easier. If I am laying in bed reading, and want to change my position, I am often awkward so I can hold the book and page open at the same time. I can lay on my back on my side, any way, and no problem, the kindle is where I need it to be.

The only draw back I can add to what you may have read on the reviews at Amazon is the inability to have footnotes appear.

I am a fan of Mary Roach who wrote some supremely funny books, (stiff and bonk are the 2 I read so far), and she uses footnotes often to inform the reader of some point of reference or humorous aside making her point. I do not see how footnotes can be seen or used on the kindle, and they are a HUGE part of her books.

The prices are cheap, and they are stored on your kindle account so you can delete anything "embarrassing" from your devise after you read it, or to simply make space.

I'd be happy to share more feedback, but will wait for you to ask, since I could type FOR DAYS about my new best friend - the Kindle!!

K.

Hi,

To answer your first question no I do not miss holding a book and flipping pages. The first week I had my kindle I actually did reach up to turn the page which speaks to the quality of the screen. I take is everywhere outside on my lunch breaks in full sunshine no problem reading. I love books so I did not buy it with the intention of never holding a book. I brought it to carry more books in one place then I ever could with paper books.

Hey everyone - I just joined yesterday and am learning my way around.

Bought a Kindle a month or so ago and now am devouring books at a ridiculous rate (for someone with as little time to read as I). As I work my way around, I may have some questions, and will try to learn how to share my feedback on the books I am into.

I look forward to sharing and hearing opinions and recommendations on some new reads.

Happy spring!!
